Approved cleaners for a wood dock on the Chesapeake bay
The Roof Cleaners posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Long time no post.... I have a customer who we cleaned their roof and siding. Now they want us to clean & stain their dock. It has not been maintained in many years. I tried cleaning with only pressure, but the wood will not come clean without soaps. Does anyone know if there is anything that is safe/legal to use on the dock to help make this cleaning easier? Their house is on the Elk River and feeds into the Chesapeake bay. I have looked extensively online & can't find any definitive answers. I would love to do this work for the customers, but don't want to get jammed up by the EPA. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for any help you can provide! How cold(temp) for you to not powerwash?
The Roof Cleaners replied to John T's question in The Club House
I try to make sure that it is going to be at least in the upper 30's AND that it was not 20 degrees the night before. If it was that cold the night before, the northern side of the house never really seems to get above freezing. The water freezes on any walkway or steps on that side of the home. We had to clean some snow off of a small section of roof on Wednesday before we could clean it. Temps were in the 40's but the snow had not completely melted. The house wash afterwards was no problem because of the higher temps. Brian -

Mini computers are great for doing professional estimates on the spot. Great for doing invoices at the job too. Brian -
how do you remove chimney soot
The Roof Cleaners replied to a68cudas's question in Residential Pressure Washing
This comes right off of Savogran's web site about TSP. Trisodium Phosphate TSP A non-sudsing powdered Trisodium Phosphate compound that is formulated for heavy duty cleaning. Preferred by painting and cleaning professionals for removing heavy deposits of greasy grime, smoke, soot stains and chalked paint from walls, woodwork and floors. Removes mildew and mildew stains when mixed with bleach. Cleans and prepares surfaces for repainting. Also recommended for washing away paint remover sludge. I haven't tried it specifically for removing soot stains, but many have told me that it works. Brian -
The signs look good and the customer service was very good. I did everything by e-mail and I had them ordered in a few hours. Jim from A.G.E. sent me multiple proofs until I was happy with the design and the signs were on my doorstep in less than a week from the order date. Unfortunately, my signs get stolen within days of me putting them out. I have given up on putting them near busy intersections because my competition steals them. One guy was even bold enough to put his sign right in the spot where my was taken from. My customer actually caught a guy trying to take my sign out of her yard. He claimed he worked for the township and that the signs were illegal. She asked him why he was not taking the three signs in the neighbor's yard for the home improvements that were being done there. He had no answer so she told him she was calling the police. He ran back to his truck and sped away. That same day, someone gave me a 0 star rating on my Merchant Circle account. Strange coincidence huh? People are scared of competition. There is enough work out there for everyone.

Brian, I have been buying my signs from a place called A.G.E graphics. They have an ongoing deal for 100 single color, double sided signs with heavy duty H stakes for $225.00. I'm not sure what kind of signs you are using, but if they are the same as these, it might save you some money. I think the shipping was $35.00?

I did some soft washing today with "wild cherry" and the results were amazing! It was the first time I had tried that combination and I did it because of quite a few posts I read on here. I am mainly a roof cleaner, but all of my customers ask me about house washing too. This was the fastest and most impressive cleaning I have done yet. I know there are a lot of guys that just come to the site and take information and never post. I didn't want to be one of those guys especially since the info was sooooo valuable to me today. The neighbors were so impressed I gave out two cards and gave two rough prices while I was working Thank you to everyone who give their knowledge on this forum! Brian
