  1. Thanks everyone,

John, I have always been a fan of using larger nozzles to reduce pressure. It is okay ( fine on the machine ) to use smaller orfice to cut down gpm? I only would cut down the gpm if I am running both my 5 gpm off my buffer tank and I want to add a bit more delay to my buffer. Its 250 gallons. Also , how does 4 gpm hot water compare to 5 gpm cold. How important is the heat when you are running it against a machine with more GPM.

  2. Hey guys,

I need opinions on the differences between hot water 4 gpm and hot water 5 gpm. I currently have a 5.5 3500 cold water unit and 4.0 gpm 4000 psi unit. I know the ultimate change in 4 to 5 gpm cold water for rinsing, vertical washing . I need to add hot water. I do not want to go with a hot box I am looking to get a gas/diesel skid. My question is... does the hot water make up for the loss in gpm ( 4gpm hot vs 5 gpm cold ) . How does the 4gpm hot water compare to the 5 gpm hot water ? Is it better to use a 4gpm hot water unit to degrease excavators and equipment because 5 gpm would make more of a mess ?

Ultimately i need hot water to degrease equipment, cleaning oil spots, cleaning caked on organic matter ( chicken crap ) from machines .

I do residential, and all the commercial and industrial i can with cold water and lots of chems. I am looking to add heat to help cut down cleaning time on the things I do now and to clean what I cant with out heat.

I know this all might sound confusing and thoughts scattered. Please ask any questions you have.

  3. How does a topic on a simple deck cleaning get so complicated and confrontational?

Really shows who are professionals and who are not.

To the Begginer. You have everything you need. Mix up a good housewash with your SHC and simple cherry. DS or X jet your preference. Maybe X jet to get higher concentration of SHC. Soak and dwell. You can either scrub, use lower pressure, what ever you feel comfortable with to create some agitation to remove any stubborn crud just take in caution when using any level of pressure on wood. Final rinsing with x jet or black nozzle.

If you are a non SHC user. Or for the oxi- salesman ready to post, there is sodium percarbonate based agents to mix with warm water that you can mop on, and brush/lowpressure then rinse.

  4. Joe,

To be Honest with you, Sending 1000 mailers in April, and 1000 mailers in may to 2 different zones, may only get you 2-3 calls each time,

BUT if you send 3 mailers from April 1 - may 10 to the same 1000 you should close at least 10-15 jobs

Sending 1 mailer to 1000 people will yield littler results, The true power of direct mail, is repetition. The more the home owner sees you the more the remember you company is around.

    For Instance:

    April 1st - 1000 Mailers sent,

    April 4th - Cards Land

April 5th - 8th - You receive 4 calls. and during those dates, you are driving your lettered vehicle to do the estimates.

now everyone in that zone has seen you TWICE,

April - 10 - 12 you close 2 jobs and perform these jobs on these dates. Now that’s 3 times the neighbors have seen you.

April 15 - 1000 cards sent to the same list as the first time

April 19th cards Land, now they have seen you 4 times.

April 20th - 25th you get 7-9 calls, During those dates you are again, driving your lettered vehicle through that neighborhood, They have now seen you 5 times.

April 25th - 29th you perform the 4-6 jobs you close, Now they have seen you 6 times.

May - 8th you send another 1000 cards to the same list.

May 12th cards land, Now they have seen you 7 times.

May 13-18th you receive 9-15 calls,

See the pattern, The more a targeted group sees an advertisement, a company, or a person, The more they remember that company.

That is an excellent example of how to use mailers. Nice post John.

  5. in dilution ratios it is not 1:4 .. 5 total ... DILUTIONS REPRESENT SOLUTE WITH IN SOLVENTS ... the total is 4 in a 1:4 .. most chem injectors are talked about at 20% draw rate .... this is 1/5 ... they are also said to be a 1:5 as a dilution ratio ... if we add 1 + 5 = 6 than 1/6 would be 16% draw rate. I do not know any typical 1:5 downstreamer that is a max 16% draw rate.... Dilution ratios compare the chemical to the total amount of solution its that simple. For those of you wanting to google and search up answers please refrain using ratio, fractions, proportions as keywords... look up dilutions because that is what we are doing to chemicals .. diluting them.

  6. ACTUALLY the gold star goes to me...

Ratios are the relative magnitudes of 2 quantities

In a dilution ratio (which this is ).... the ratio is the amount of chemical to the amount of solution ... (the solution is the chemical and the water)...

what you have all done is asumed the ratio is chemical to water

it is not .. In a diltuion ratio the ratio stands for chemical to solution

If this was not true ... than a 5GPM machine with a 1:5 injector could take 1 gallon chem and 5 gallon water to then be pumping out 6 gallons of liquid.... why wouldnt we just use the injector to suck up that extra gallon and turn our machines in 6GPM machines ? Becuase ......

1:5 chemical injectors is a dilution ratio of your chemical .... 1 part chemical to 5 parts of solution .. this is true because everyone knows a 1:5 injector means 20% draw rate .... 1 part chemical divided by 5 parts solution = 0.2 or 20% chemical wich is being drawn.

In dilution ratios 1:4 means 1 part chemcial to four parts wich is the whole solution ( water and chemical ) this is why we also multiply dilution ratios 1:4 and a 1:10 means 1:40 because we have takin 1:4 = 25% chem and 1:10 = 10% chem and we have combined them ... does anyone know what 25% of 10% or 10% of 25% ...... they both are 2.5% = 1/40 wich is the ratio 1 part chem to 40 part solution 1:40 dilution ratio

  7. Although in another country, I to have my story. Before buying that first year buisness license I had some skill pressure washing part time for a poultry outfit. This and hours of forum reading ie TGS, helped me stride in the right direction. I bought an old e350 for van, good website, some advertising, 13 hp 4040, and typical starter equipment. Total cost : 6000. My first year I grossed 18 K and experienced several learning curves as anyone should expect. Almost done my second year of business, I have upgraded to a 14x7 enclosed trailer unit, a professioal logo and image, 5.6 3400 psi with 2 back up 13 hp 4040 and other equipment upgrades. I have a part time employee for bigger jobs and scheduled contract cleaning. Already grossed 48 k and looking to finish just short of 55k at the end of the year. Can say I am estatic for year 3 of buisness ! Thanks to all of TGS for so much valuable info that has saved me thousands.

  8. Has anyone tryed to make their own xjet? Now i am not bringing this to attention because i think the x jet is expensive ... come on for the price it is compared to the pay out it gives.... this is just for the equipment junkies that like to try something new ... put a male quick connect on the inlet of a downstream chem injector and a variable nozzle on the outlet and try it out just like you would an x jet. If anyone has tryed this .. or is going to lets hear about it .. I will have pictures of mine at the end of the week .. ps it works really goood !
