request for lesser service
tropical wave replied to jnoden's question in Residential Pressure Washing
When a homeowner says "no chemicals" say ok, we will use a professional house washing "soap"........ because that is exactly what we are doing...... does our "soap" CONTAIN chemicals? of course it does, but it's still just soap.... its not Dawn dishwashing chemical............its Dawn dish soap its not Tide laundry chemicals..................its Tide laundry soap (detergent) its not Head and Shoulders hair chemical........................its Head and Shoulders Shampoo (soap for hair) this can go on and on, but you see, ALL "soaps" are made with chemicals of some sort........ just change the verbage and most wouldnt know the difference....... or maybe I'm just nuts...........I dont know -
was messing with my shurflo sprayer yesterday and have a service question: pump was running good, primed nicely, no problems..... pull the trigger on the gun/wand and the pump pulsates ... it keeps spraying but it pulsates and the spray volume isnt consistant... took the gun off and it pumped fine out of the hose with no pulsating.... I even slowly closed the ball valve to see if it was a gun problem restricting flow which may have caused the pulsating, it kept pumping until the valve was closed then cycled off, like its supposed to do (I think).....in other words, I can't get it to pulsate unless the gun is attatched and I pull the trigger.....??? any ideas ??

starting business, is this a good unit?
tropical wave replied to Coop's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Coop, all valid points.....get the machine you can afford, because there will be more expenses than just the machine (ie: more hose, supply hose, guns, different length wands, extension wand, variety of nozzles to adjust impact pressure, chems, x-jet, chem buckets, gas cans, the list can go on and on and on, including expenses like a trailer, advertising signs-newspaper-flyers, insurance, truck) anyway, you see the point....... I would prefer less pressure 3000 or 3500 vs. the 4000 and up the GPM to 4 vs. the 3.5 advertised on the machine from northern...... the noticeable difference between 3500 and 4000 psi is barely there, but 4gpm is nice (as a minimum) 5 or 5.5 would be awesome but then your looking at a big time machine which is what you will be upgrading to in the future (as will I) good luck -
When do you do estimates?
tropical wave replied to Barry M's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Barry, you don't know when your getting off from the full time job, but since you probably know when your going to work, maybe you can do them in the morning before work...... if I understand right, your full time job is an evening thing? I rotate shifts monthly, so when I work nights, I estimate/PW mornings.... when Im on days, Im usually off by 3pm, can estimate/PW late afternoons until it gets dark................. -
Nice......

Pulsating ShurFlo??
tropical wave replied to tropical wave's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
when I let go of the trigger, the pump still stopped, so I should be good there. I see what you mean about the higher pressure and overspray with a shurflo, was real windy here today and the spraying was brutal..... what do you think of the volume regulating type guns (deckster) where, I believe, the pressure remains the same but the flow of chem/sealer is reduced..?? anyway, one issue at a time..... appreciate the help, THANX MH -
Pulsating ShurFlo??
tropical wave replied to tropical wave's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
just finished messing with the system...PRESSURE SWITCH too low !!!! Like Shane said, pull the trigger, hold open and adjust the switch.....2 1/2 - 3 turns and it was pumping like its supposed to be (I hope)..... Ryan, I was testing it out with water and only 50 feet of 3/8" hose with a new battery, so Im guessing the pressure was set too low from the factory to pump through the tip I have on the wand.......Thanks for the ideas !! Shane, Thank You !!! Be safe all -
Pulsating ShurFlo??
tropical wave replied to tropical wave's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
shane..... the gun/wand is new, but it is an espec p.o.s. that will be replaced with a regular gun and wand with a cone tip nozzle..... maybe I'll change one of my regular guns into a 1/4" and use that for sealer......planned on using the wand I have from espec (fan nozzle) for applying stripper and ox only until it craps out, or hang onto it as a backup...... I'll try everything out again tomorrow with a different gun and see what happens..... thanks again my man !! -
Pulsating ShurFlo??
tropical wave replied to tropical wave's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Shane, its not sucking air, everything is tight..... whats weird is that when I keep the gun off of the hose (disconnected) with just the open hose, it runs fine, pumps the water great.....when the gun is attached and the pump is on, pull the trigger the pump goes "up and down" not "on and off", just higher and lower...........and the spray thru the nozzle is higher and lower......when the trigger is released the pump shuts off automatically, which I believe it is supposed to do................... I read thru the minimal paperwork that came with the pump and it doesn't say anything about a pressure switch....it only talks about a pressure switch in one area and says "if equiped"..... so I really don't know if it has one...there is no visible knob or anything, unless its one of the screws in the top of the case area....... thanks for the help so far.....MH -

too funny ryan....!!!!! -
incorporate.....give the corporation a name, then all the other businesses under the corporation can have seperate names too, just owned by the main corporation.....pretty much like all big business is done, like FOX for example, the corporation owns, tv channels, movie studios, amusement parks, telecoms etc etc

DITTO.....gallon citriclean, gallon 10%, little rinse aid, top off 5 gallon bucket and x-jet............... havent tried any foamer with it, any ideas on that??

increasing GPMs
tropical wave replied to jnoden's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
purchase different sized nozzles.... use a nozzle chart, higherpowersupplies.com or pwmall.com has a chart that calulates the size for you, you type in the gpm for your machine, then type in what pressure your looking for and it will tell you which nozzle size to buy....... I have nozzles to reduce pressure to 500psi in incriments up to 3500.......... the adjustment you speak of on the machine is the adjustable unloader......dont mess with the pressure by using the unloader, just pop in the proper nozzle for the psi you want and away you go...... -
One more question
tropical wave replied to KC Deck's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
sounds good about the multi-meter, but wouldn't diferent species of wood (hardness) offer different resistence regardless of the moisture content ? electrical resistence is measured in ohms, wood is a very very poor conductor of electricity, the resistence of wood will be a huge number...??? I honestly don't know, thats why Im asking........... -
havent used any of that stuff for the high pressure ends.... but the whole shurflo setup is built with HD and Menards plumbing... my only concern would be using it in areas that are always under pressure (ie before the gun or a high pressure ball valve)

the "number of the beast" is carved into the scalps of the clintons... coworker/friend of mine was on clintons security detail....the stories relating to those 2 idiots are so funny that they become sad to think that they were the leaders of the free world.....

tropical wave replied to seymore's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.

the funniest thing i ever heard him say was "you might be a redneck if your too drunk to fish" thats real old, but I laughed my a$$ off.... he is a funny hillbilly SOB. -
we'd be better off with a drunk and stoned jenna bush than pretty much any dem in the future....too many dems want to give everything away and dont want to admit that there are millions of animals on the planet that want us (all of us, dems-reps, liberals, whiners) dead........... why cant the dems realize we cant make friends with the extremists? they need to be dealt with----harshly! could you imagine 9/11 with Al "the boob" Gore in office...... JFK was murdered before I was born, from what I know and read, he was a great dem preseident, hopefully there wont be another one elected in my or my sons lifetime....
