  1. ready seal

That is the normal price. You can get better pricing if you buy it by the pallet. For five years I have quoted the decks for a price plus the stain, I bill the stain at 28.99 a gallon, just raised it to 31.99 per gallon. Have not had one customer complain about the price yet. ACR can probably get it to you in 2 days shipping. I get it in a day in NY

The Pics do not do the project justice. The deck looks much better than the pics reflect. That was a one coat application as well, I looked at it today again and cured nicely

Yes it is the semi trans. The nice thing about it is I can get it from ACR Products and I have it in 1 day UPS. I am bidding a log cabin tomorrow. I may offer the AC Product line as an option to the homeowner. The deck was prepped - stripped and neutralized in the usual fashion, It was also defurred prior to staining. It didn't need defurring, but we no w defelt / defurr all decks prior to staining. I just think the luster in the wood comes through more after defurring and the decks do look better. Kev, I dont know if I would put AC down over another stain if I didn't know for sure it was there. Sounds like the potential for a mess. However, let ,e know if it works well. MJ

Customer asked for a light application. THis is one coat, still a bit wet.

We used the driftwood semi today. I have to say it exceeded my expectations. It applied easily, great coverage per gallon, easy cleanup and looked greeeat!! We will certainly be adding this product line for our customers to consider. One note worth mentioning.... The can says "shake well" but I would recommend stirring it in addition to shaking it. There was a substantial amount of pigment on the bottom of the can after we shook it. Overall rating: 8 out of 10

Glad to hear this!!! We are excited about this product. J Clark sent me a bunch of product ( and I mean a bunch ) to demo out on deck projects. We will be putting down the driftwood on a deck tomorrow or friday... Can't wait to try it. I took their color samples that they sent me and made a small portable "pickett fence" type display to show my customers. I have three decks pending that would like the AC stain. I am waiting to see how the first one turns out but is sounds like it will be a great addition to our product line. I really like the color selection they offer and the merchandising material they sent me. Because it is more expensive for me to use than my current product, we will be offering it as our premium product line and charging accordingly.
  7. Aruba - Fun in the Sun

Nice, real nice Carlos.... Damn, thats how rich power washers spend their free time (LOL). I am leaving for the poor mans Aruba (Fl) tomorrow for a week. Hey Carlos, what continent is Aruba on anyway?
  8. First time power washing.. having a problem

First of all, good luck with your business start up. I made some of the same cardinal mistakes that you have made with starting out.... Learn from them and move on. Volume (GPM) and the correct detergents are the key to getting the siding clean (NOT PRESSURE). The only thing we clean with high pressure is concrete that is NOT freshly poured. Simple cherry is an excellent soap as is citracleen and several others out there. Find one and try it out. In most situations, the commercial soaps and pool bleach are more cost effective than over the counter detergents. Beth and a few others have made a good point, spend countless hours on this site searching threads and continue to ask questions. PS: list your name and signature info in your post, people will be more willing to offer you help. Feel free to call anytime.
  9. Estimate Vehicle

We were spending a ton on estimates and fuel, 2-3K per month. I bought my daughters car back from her - that I bought for her. It is a small geo metro. Lettered it up, we use it for estimates and use it to run from our office to our equipment warehouse in our Binghamton market ( I leave my one ton at that warehouse and use other equipment locally). We knocked about 1K a month off our fuel bill . It used to cost me 80-100 a day to run the one ton (V10) back and forth, It cost 16.25 to run the geo back and forth.
  10. Whether or not we would take this job depends on many factors. The two most contributing factors are; our current work load and whether or not the customer wants to pay the freight. I agree, a challenge makes one better at their craft and have found that just about anything is possible. But, I would decline a job like this in the heart of the season, regardless of price they would be willing to pay. 2-4-10 K, it wouldn't matter. I would offer them the service for the early fall. THe other issue is that in the past 5 years, the three biggest pain in the a$$ projects have all been solid decks - One I lost money on, one I broke about even and one I hit a grandslam... In that order, no less. There is a lot to be said for the learning curve of professional wood restoration . Good luck and happy stripping!

Dam, I thought alboline was a brand of sandwich meat... So much for the sandwich.

I spoke with these folks today as well. I am very impressed with their technical knowledge and some of the marketing material that they are providing for contractors. They are sending me their driftwood gray to promo on a deck that the customer is requesting a gray stain on. They also have a cedar tint they want me to look at as well. The technical data, recoat information, moisture content requirement and price may be a good fit for what we are doing on some of our wood products. I am a bit intrigued to see how this product applies and looks when done. The proof lies with the final product.
  13. New England Weather

I agree Jim. June weather has been a huge PIA for the wood market.

  15. We use them. We use the snap on model when on the house. We aslo have the bolt on model. When I need to get on a roof or stain a dormer on a house we use the bold on model. The snap on models can get snagged on a gutter and the bold on works great if you need a roof ladder. It hooks over the peak and works better than the fireman's hook that we have. I can't put emplyees on a roof due to Workers comp. They will not cover them. I have to do the roof work, furtunately we dont do a lot on roofs. When we clean them, we do it from the ground.
  16. soiled canvas tarps

If you are looking for a great deal locally, we have a contractors account at Sherwin Williams, go in and dicker with them... we paid less than 18 for a few 9X12 Heavy duty canvas and 8 or 9 for few 4X15 heavy duty canvas
  17. soiled canvas tarps

I take them to the laundrymat. Use 2-3 cups deck stripper as soap. They come out great!
  18. I Have spoke with NY DEC about this.... If a drop of anything hits the water here, it is a fine if caught. If fish die as a result, it is a huge fine. We can not wash newly constructed decks or docks.. Old westher docks can be washed only with cold water.
  19. My vacation

Get a prepaid mastercard from wallmart with only a set amount on it to use for a calling card... They will only have access to what you have on the card. I use them for my employees when they are out of town. Matt
  20. Wood Tux Vs. ReadySeal

I put down 135 gallons of ready seal in the last 10 days. No back brushing, no customer complaints, lots of $$$. We did a cedar house, a large barn and a lot of decks. We got another pallet in today. Tom D from JnT Mobile Wash came up to see how we did the house. I sent the guys ahead to do the spindles (He and I went to Cracker Barrell). We got on the job to do the house at about 2:00 and we were off the job at 5:00 I vote for RS,

  23. Any Ideas what went wrong???

sand...sand... sand some more... then seal, Do a test area in one of the bad spots with stain before you lay stain down on the whole deck.
