Winter activity-whats yours?
HighTide replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Took a couple weeks off while updating my equipment with new pump, K-7 unloader, belts, inlet water hose and tank dump valve. Other that that, this is Florida and we work all 12 months. Just finished up a high school and a few houses with my new setup. Have an elementary school and a condo complex starting next week. -
I have tried a couple different 1/4" hose barbs but for my 5.6 gpm @ 3,500 psi, nothing comes close to the 0040 tip and it's 50 foot high rifle shot!!!

I sure could use one! Especially if you were to see my before and after photo binder that I carry around. Thanks for putting the drawing on for us! -

I had a monster spider jump on my shirt last summer when I was working and nearly freaked me out. Damn thing must have been nearly 4 inches long! I have seen some wild spiders since moving to Florida. Cool picture!

Who has a copy of the yellow pages?
HighTide replied to plainpainter's topic in Business Topics & Tips
I quit the AT&T Yellow Pages and now just list in the primary competition -- The Complete Phone Book. More people in this county use this book but I still only get maybe 6-8 calls a year from it. Just got a call from a PM in Ponte Vedra that found me in the book as he needs an estimate for cleaning 15 condo buildings. So I do seem to get my $700 back for the quarter page ad. -
+1 on the oxalic acid. I use Envirospec's Rust Away (which has oxalic in it).

Water Pressure Problems
HighTide replied to shreveportpb's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
First thing please fill out your signature. Welcome to TGS as we like to know who we are talking to. First thing, check the inlet filter between your tank and pump and make sure its clean (take apart and put back together). Then make sure no air is getting into the system before going into your pump. If that is not the reason, check back as others will chime in. -
Chris, the short answer is both. I add 12 oz. of beads to each gallon with a half pound to a pound of PowerStroke per gallon depending how dirty the surface is. For example, a typical bank drive thru only needs 2 gallons mixed up and then I downstream it. I usually have (and want to have) a half gallon left over in the bucket after coating all the lanes real good. I pour the remaining mix directly on the main oil stains and push it around the big stain with a brush and let it all dwell for 10-15 minutes. The surface oil is gone before I even hit it with hot water. I must be doing something right as one bank client just asked me to add 4 more of their branches in the next county to be cleaned 4 times a year. I LOVE BANKS!

I mix Envirospec's PowerStroke with caustic soda beads. Works like a charm!

What Conventions and Roundtable do you plan on attending in 2010??
HighTide replied to John T's question in The Club House
Anything in Florida! Also, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and perhaps something in Georgia (if there is one). -
Larry. A couple of months ago, my girls and I were walking around the lake just outside our neighborhood and saw a 4-5 foot gator. People have always said there are no gators in this lake and people come to fish in it all the time. Last week, the city put up a few "no swimming" signs around the lake. Funny how these guys just show up and make themselves at home!

18 months ago, I got a 1/4 page ad in the AT&T Yellow Pages for $195/mo (it was the largest pressure washing ad). Got a total of 7 estimate calls in a one year period resulting in 4 cleaning projects. Lost my @ss on it and dropped it completely this year and focused on my website and SEO.

Most Tractor Supply stores carry them for $26.23. I am getting one in a couple of weeks...finally! Hudson Float Valve - 2170869 | Tractor Supply Company

To be awarded a HUGE (& highly profitable) cleaning project that will take a month to complete. Then I can buy me a backup cold water 8 gpm pressure washer. A Bama win in the national title game would be nice too as it looks like I will be there!

Camelot, I like your point and it may be why I am not getting good results from my doorhangers. I have always placed them on homes that could use a wash now and passsed right by most of the clean ones. Will change my method in future to see if it helps. Thanks.

You get what you pay for...
HighTide replied to sweetwaterfish's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Somebody actually wrote a check for that kind of work? WOW!!! -
Sounds appealing. Will basic maintenance of our equipment and pump rebuilds be included in the seminar? If so, I would be interested.

Thanks for sharing as I am sure the homeowners were happy with that job. Great work!

Recommendations on cleaning this deck
HighTide replied to Roishe Cheng's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
If the bleach doesn't work, put down some house wash (Simple Cherry) and use a soft deck brush. -
I agree completely and only use "detergents" or "cleaning agents" when discussing my methods with the homeowners.

Count me IN on the beach prizes. Thanks.
