I got a snow thrower i got in trade for work. I live in wash dc area. got the thrower a couple of years ago. Its way faster than shoveling! only used it once. (just got it out to play with it! did my whole street!) Temps are supposed to change here mon or tues to 60 + again thank god! Temps been lower 40 round here almost a week now with rain. Others say they can wash houses n roofs in the rain at these temps, I'm scared to try! Wasted money in gas and labor and my time. I picked up 4 more estimates yesterday. Plus the big one waiting on closing on the house the 22nd. Just play it by ear and DONT buy (improve equipment) anything else till spring. Luckily I'm originaly a gutter cleaning company. So I got that coming up.. In my area they wait for the last leaf to fall sooo Got a book coming! Its on the way. forgot the name and author. Subject: quality sucks, customer loyalty is gold. Or something like that. Once again this winter I'll be cleaning gutters when they are thawed. (gutters are like bridges, they freeze quicker, and unthaw slower) Work on SEO. read read read. Next year I'll be there with you guys! 2010 is my year! I'll be going to roundtables! Pay my membership to *****! (im an unpaid member now) With no benifits and it sucks. Get in with PWNA! Join the chapter in my county! There are so many forums here for us. This seems to me to be the most visited by guyslike us. 2010 is gutterdogs year!

Yea Henry you always right! I dont have the amount of work you do! Ya know I have cleaned gutters in the rain before! No calls for that right now? You basically know my pricing on roof washing, and did est. online for a cust yesterday. havent heard back yet. still got more work at that golf course, and cple other things. got est lil repair from Hey how do you aproach property managers? I have 1 that found me. I get a lil job every couple of months from. How do you approach property managers??? This was weird... Last year I did an estimate for an apt complex. Priced it as it was subbed to me year prior at another apt. complex. The apt. manager said "thats it?" I said yea and never heard back? -

How do you get referrals?
gutterdog replied to Little Buddy's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Hey Rod! Great weather we got right now! lol!!! I've always done good work, at the end I throw in the sidewalk for free as a surprise!!! Good service, a lil bonus at the end! I get some word of mouth from gutter cleaning and house washing. Recently a gutter clean (and testimonial) gave a word of mouth to a house wash (and testimonial). Well that was nice! Very rewarding for me! By this time next year they will forget the name? There is inbound marketing and outbound marketing and referals. I think once you have a happy satisfied customer use it to your advantage and something in it for the customer too? With newsleters etc that is outbound marketing and gets expensive. On the other hand its not cold selling! The customer is already happy! Knows you as a person and the quality you provide. If mr smith tells his friend mr jones about you he is giving good advice. Also Mr Jones can look at Mr smiths house as evidence. Referals Rock!!! The thing is to persuade the customer to give the referals and hopefully Mr smith will call his buddy up and tell what a job was done... what a friendly guy you are, quality etc. before you call the customer! Mr Smith has sold Mr Jones before you call -
How do you get referrals?
gutterdog replied to Little Buddy's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I am going to work on a thank you letter, mailed after the job, and ask for referals, Would a hand written one be better than a printed one? Also any referal that turns into a job a visa card. Enough to buy them a nice lunch at applebees or something? A nice lunch wouldnt be considered a bribe but a thank you for the referal! -
Not too long ago my trans caught on fire!!! It was crazy smoke everywhere... Fire dept came!!! Whole truck almost went up with it! Thank got for pump up sprayers!!!

Check in door- Ive had customers hide the check there. I call them when Im done and they tell me where they hid it. (customers are so easy to figure out...either inside the gas grill or under a flower pot!!!) Referal program- This I must know more about! (can I call you?) Reminded when services are due- I could use this for gutter cleaning!(been trying to find time to put together an annual contract) Newsletter mailing list- I been thinking something similiar to this. Like a whats new with Gutterdogs kinda thing. I was thinking rss feed, instead of mailing them out?

I want to get one more thing before I go into save mode. 3 things... A sure flow setup, surface cleaner or a better pump for engine.... I could use all 3 right now. Im gonna get the better pump. Goin' from 4gpm to 5 n half! The increase in gpm is the thing for me. Its gettin close to the end of the season. What are your thoughts? What are you going to diff this year?

Come on leaves fall!!!! Hope it isn't too cold to do that house with the concrete pool in the back around the 22 when he closes on the house. Think I'll attempt it anyway. He went for the deluxe package, wax, gutter scrub everything except the cheap seal on the wood. -
I like to meet the customer, regardless. I think a smile, professional appearance, and a handshake, are golden on getting the job. I prefer to walk around the house with the customer before and after. I have sold jobs though completely through the Internet and phone never meeting the customer. I take before and after pics and send them as an attachment in an e-mail.

I sold a job. Big residential job. Nice house! I gotta get a surface cleaner. I have plenty of experience with turbo nozze. With common sense. The increased speed, higher quality told. looks like I have to put getting newer higher gpm. pump off. (a couple of people know I want to replace pump soon,) Back to subject. Ive watched many videos. MANY. Washing concrete around pools. Some by guys in here. You take the surface cleaner right up to the edge of pools! Uhhhh.... My brain is full from the long thread from apple roofing, and that IS easy to remeber, Good name. what first half of day turned out to be. Trying that out tuesday. Everything else I GOT on this job, just the pool thing? Thank you Grime Scene. Please hit me up! I know.. get a surface cleaner.... This is 1 thing that meses me up. Ive seen ads for surface cleaners that say 0 tip nozzles? And 15. Wouldnt 15 be better, since my turbo nozzle so bad? Ive, in the past couple months been checkin out surface cleaners I can afford. I have a pool to do around 22 this month. I've never done one before.

I've gotten a lil sloppy here and there and said chems to the customer. They do get scared. Soap, detergent, etc are better for the customers ears.
