  1. Any tips on removing new construction mortar from windows? It is hard to imagine how the masons accomplished this feat...

The mortar is a little thick in spots.

If it was real light I'd feel fine but I'm not real sure on this one.

I guess I could hit it and spray the sills the whole time (they are metal) and repeat as necessary? It might be hard to get enough linger time on to eat the mortar without causing other problems.

  2. why would you use a pressure washer to remove paint? you can use solvents. If your going to use pressure washer and maybe water, termites might live in your walls.

    Huh? Read Post Number 3.

Prepping in advance for painters get rid of a lot of loose paint saving them a great deal of time so that they only need to edge sand and pick away at larger stronger spots of failure not removable via power washing. The cleaning is very much chemical based, and doesn't need all that much pressure and is similar to a house wash.

  3. We have had the same issues as you with rust removal. We used to have NoRust shipped to us from Florida and tried WhiteOx as well but found that Rid O Rust worked best and didn't harm plants or grass when junior got a little crazy with the pump sprayer. We have some really bad staining and found that it may take a few passes but the stuff really works!

Just wondering, does it target just the stain or does it whiten all the surrounding concrete too (unless you can contain it)? That's the problem with the others discussed here...

  4. I think that ultimately when anything is structured so as to give one party a significant advantage over the other, eventually it becomes a zero sum game.

Things need to benefit both parties to succeed. Kind of like the Nash Equilibrium.

Of course, companies can have wild success in the short term....and it's hard to define what a long or short time is..

One thing I do feel is that, things get awry when systems run by policymakers who don't understand how things really work, like in Education, blame teachers for non-performance under their crazy paradigm that's doomed to fail.

Then the teachers organize to fight them off b/c they need job protection b/c they work for fools but then the fools blame the teachers and stand and point and say "Look there...so teachers are failures how dare they organize".!!

I think it's that way in a lot of industries and companies.

Ultimately, if workers feel to need to organize something is probably wrong with the company or system itself.

  5. I can't see there being much of a profit in that, I mean how much is someone going to pay to have their Webber cleaned; twenty dollars? I'm sure most of here have a minimum of a 100 dollars to show up at customer's house. Just my thoughts.

haha yeah. My last neighbor had a huge one built in permanently encased in brick that he did event cooking with. Other than big grills and close by or already working on-site it's pretty much pointless to do this :D

  6. Well my jeep broke for three days and now I'm behind but I did this job for community service/auction and the lady wants her cedar roof cleaned off 540/Durant area in Raleigh, NC.

I have a few pictures, haven't looked at them but the scope is that the cedar is cupped hardcore in at least 10 places on the backside (maybe the front too) and there is an extremely high degree of buildup on them and all over.

Also the front is 30% inaccessible unless you are a walker and the back is the same not walker status but ladder setup status. At any rate due to the end of shingle build up you woodies and everyone will have to do a roof walking pressure cleaning after chem app.

She will not allow any pruning of landscaping to clean her roof and would not name a dollar amount to clean it.

I have a few pictures and will post them here Monday or later if any parties are interested.

I no longer bid on roof jobs where people are not serious (as evidenced to me by the not wanting pruning) but gave my word I would ask around and the other company I know doesn't like it so I am posting here.

Let me know if you want the other pictures. The upside is she will be wanting them stained.

  7. You can use a small buffer tank without having a skid. Also, a buffer helps to reduce pressure builds on the machine and just generally makes it nicer. Raleigh water pressures are nice for my 5 GPM but outside Raleigh in Wake Forest, Rolesville, and surrounding areas in can be more hit and miss. Even those connnected to the Raleigh stations can have problems with demand side booster situations.

Even with my small machine back in the day there were times where I wished I had a buffer tank but it's best to have a belt drive to pull it.

If you have questions you have reach me today but tomorrow I'm power washing all the day long....

  8. But I do wonder about the idea of finding a portable with higher flow rate at 4000 psi. As I said before, mine puts out 4k psi @ 3.6 .. I've been scanning the net searching for higher flow cold machines @ 4 k psi since this Hammerhead can handle up to a flow of 4 k psi @ 8 . So does anyone know of such a machine of good quality?

Thanks for listening and thanks for the encouragement :)

Well it all depends on what you mean by portable. For me personally, my 275 lb machine is portable and I wheel it all around easily, but it surely is less "portable" than the machine you are talking about. And my friend is unable to push it back onto the trailer due to its weight.

4000psi and 4gpm is about tops for what you are talking about and they weigh around 175. For power washing the smaller machines are great but for pressure washing the larger definitely pays off. Belt Driven Cold Pressure Washers vs Pressure Washer - Cold

I mean with a skid versus portable all they do is add or remove wheels... So with am 8GPM machine it's going to be a big boy.

I bought a smaller one from Northern Tools in 1996 and it was great but things may have changed over the years.

  9. I just read the reason you are supposed to use non detergent is to reduce water, so I guess the non detergent really is that important...

Also you may be using cheap oil.

Other than those two things...your power washing pump might be in trouble...? Here's another possibility on that side of things: http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/residential-pressure-washing/8451-how-fix-pressure-washer-pump-water-pump-oil.html

  10. I would start out with a teak oil like Miniwax teak oil and see how that goes.

The darker the stain the more UV protection is offers. With the wood you have, others may disagree, but I don't think a dark or tinted stain is necessarily required.

I have a lot of experience cleaning teak and hardwood furniture but little in staining them so sorry I can't be of more help.
