Dirty water
the_GUNN_man replied to First Impressions's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
How often do you use your burner? Do you only get water like that when you turn the burner on? -
If I melt dry ice in my swimming pool can I go swimming without getting wet? I once had some powered water but I didn't know what to add. Quotes by Stephen Wright.

I was just wondering if I could get some help from those of you who drink Mountain Dew and other Pepsi products. Here is what is going on. The are having a drawing every ten minutes for a chance to win a Xbox 360. An Xbox is like a Playstation video game system that is made by Microsoft. The new system is due out in November and my son has been bugging me for one. What I hear is that many places are sold out of them and it could be next year before more become available. I really wanted to try and win one for my son. The contest runs through the end of next month. The chances of winning are small but with a little help I feel I can increase my odds a little. The only thing I would need form you is to save the orange tops from the Mountain Dew 1 liter and 20 oz bottles and other Pepsi products with the orange tops(I think the Sierra Mist ones have yellow tops). There is a code in the cap that is worth one entry. If you could e-mail them to me or send them in a PM here I would really appreciate it. My son really had his heart set on this and I did not reserve one and now they are all sold out and this maybe my only chance to get one before Christmas. My email address is the_GUNN_man@yahoo.com Thank you for taking the time for reading this. BTW me and my wife just had another little girl on 9-20-05. We named her Zoe. Now I have three and time to switch from man to man to zone.

I do the opposite. I run two power washers into one gun. 11gpm can wear you out fast. Rinsing is nice though.

You have to be careful which pump you buy. The best ones for us to buy are the agricultural ones. They are more meant for chemicals. West Marine also sell Shur-Flo pumps they are a water only pump. Like someone else said, the cycling is from using too small of a tip size or a leak in the line. You can adjust the screw in the bottom of the pressure switch to control it somewhat also. Here is something you may want to do if your pump just won't turn on. Bypass the pressure switch and see if it comes on. Do not run it like this for more then a couple seconds because when you let go of the trigger the pump keeps pumping and can cause damage. If you bypass the switch and it turns on then you have a faulty pressure switch. I called Shur-Flo and they sent me a new one for free. Takes about 2 minutes to change.

EFC-38 and neutralizing
the_GUNN_man posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
How important is it to follow up EFC-38 with a neutralizer? I was working today and my Shur-Flo's pressure switch went out and I didn't have a pump up with me and I do not like shooting oxalic acid through a X-Jet. I wasn't able to apply the acid when I was done. It still looked good. Can you go back and hit it a few days later to get the brightening effect? If it was HD-80 I would have used I would have been a little concerned and probably used the X-Jet. BTW, I called Shur-Flo and they sent me a new switch free of charge. Will be here friday. -
EFC-38 and neutralizing
the_GUNN_man replied to the_GUNN_man's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I did try bypassing the switch but the problem was that when you let go of the trigger it starts to leak out of the bottom of the pump because the pressure builds up. -
I have always been told not to water your grass during the day because you can cause it to burn. I do not know if this is true or not. Could that also be a cause? It kinda made sense to me because your skin burns more when you are in the water because of the magnifing effect. Could the same be true for grass if it is too short and you water it in direct sunlight? Just trying to throw something else out there.

1st airless experience
the_GUNN_man replied to CLASSICPW's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Isn't the CWF have a latex type consistancy? I just don't want to spend too much on a sprayer. I might just stick with the roller and brushes. I just hate it going so slow. It isn't too bad when I get a couple high school kids helping for $7 an hour. -
1st airless experience
the_GUNN_man replied to CLASSICPW's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have several customers that insists that I use CWF Cedar. Actually it is a condo assosciation and they say that that is what they want used. With that being said there are several decks to do and up until now I have been brushing and rolling everything. I tried a pump up before but didn't like it. Been doing it the hard way for the last 3 years. I wanted to buy a cheap airless or Wagner brand painter. I have seen the Wagner Paint Crew Sprayer like people were talking about here on sale for $129. It is a .2 gpm 2800 psi sprayer. I don't do enough decks to justify spending big money on something fancy. The CWF can it says use between 1500 and 1800 psi. I am wondering if this Wagner Paint Crew sprayer will cut it or if 2800 psi will be too much. I know people here hate the CWF but it is something I have no say in. Also the CWF is much thicker then most oil stains. -
shurflo pump problem!
the_GUNN_man replied to randyh56's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I had the same thing. My pump would pulsate when I used too small of a nozzle. Bigger nozzle and it worked fine. -
Citriclean & Emulsifier Plus
the_GUNN_man replied to Tronman's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I use Emulsifier Plus and love it. In a 15 gallon barrel I mix 1/2 gallon EP and 1 gallon 12.5% sh and 13.5 gallons of water. I then use a Shur-Flo to apply. Spray on spray off no high pressure needed. I wash most houses using nothing more then a soap tip. I use shooter tips to rinse up high. I used to use a full gallon of EP per batch but I found the windows streaked much easier and had to rinse so much more. Most everything I come across just melts away. I used to use Limonene but had problems with it. It always did a number on painted front doors. -
Extend-a-wand Problem
the_GUNN_man replied to Jonathan Chiplock's question in Residential Pressure Washing
What I did to fix my Extendawand was to take the holes in the wand and drill them out just slightly. It worked for awhile. Make sure you don't make the holes too big. I just do it enough to make the holes sharp again. You can only do this so many times though before the holes will get bigger. The problem with the locking pins is that when we try and extend or shorten it we drag the poles against the pins in the inside. -
HD-80 vs. EFC-38
the_GUNN_man posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have started to use HD-80 for everything and started going away from EFC-38. Here is the reason. I find that over 90% of the decks I do will still have some kind of sealer/stain on it. There are a lot of decks that look like it is bare only to start spraying and find that the spindals still have some sealer on them. The EFC-38 just doesn't seem to take it off. I have been mixing the HD-80 at 4 oz per gallon of water then using a Shur-Flo to apply it. When I need to remove a heavier stain I use 8 oz per gallon. I find that the weight vs. volume is pretty closewith HD-80 so when I say 8 oz I mean 8oz in a measuring cup. Since EFC-38 and HD-80 cost the same I find that HD-80 at half strength works better the EFC-38 at full strength. I end up cutting the cost in half. I am just curious to if others do the same? I understand that there are greater risks when using HD-80 but I have found no great benefit in using the EFC-38. I am also wondering how others apply HD-80. I use a Shur-Flo. I usually wet the wood first except when heavy stripping is needed then I use it without prewetting. That is mostly when removing solid stains and the water is still beading somewhat. -
Anybody used that and does it really work? It says you can apply it the same day you wash. Sorry if this has been covered I have been away from the boards for awhile.

"Wet" Wood Tux
the_GUNN_man replied to the_GUNN_man's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I am very curious about using this kind when I have to do decks that are over a half hour away. That way I would save over an hour of time spent driving and not to mention some gas. -
Anyone have a pw with the steam option? I am curious how well this handles washing heavy equipment that is very greasy.
-
How does that work? Can you be a little more specific.

$7,000 Budget for new equipment
the_GUNN_man replied to Tronman's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I want to warn you in case you are going to get a direct drive machine. You said something about tanks. If you are going to pull from a tank do not go with the direct drive. They can work but too many hassles. Go with a belt drive. Remember this when it comes to pressure washers. When chosing a cold water machine there are only 3 real components. The engine, pump, and the unloader. The different manufacturers just put them on different frames. If company A uses a 13 hp Honda engine, General TS 2021 pump, and a K7 unloader and company B uses the exact same. What is the difference? Hot water machines will be different but cold water are close to the same. I would probably bet that the 4 GPM is really 3.6 to 3.8. They like to round up. -
Anyone have a check valve from a General TS 2021 pump? I broke the plastic thing from the top when pulling one out. The pump is just about brand new so I do not want to replace them all just because one broke. If anyone has an old one laying around I would appreciate it if you would part with it. I will pay for postage if needed.

2 tone deck question
the_GUNN_man posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have someone who wants there deck done in cedar tone but the spindals in white. The question is do you stain the whole spindal white or do you stain it white just to the point where it reaches the floor. I thought it may look a little tacky if the spindal was white about 4 to 5 inches past the floor while the bottom board the spindals are attached to would be cedar tone. -
2 tone deck question
the_GUNN_man replied to the_GUNN_man's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
They said they wanted all railing white. I was wondering if I should do the spindals and top rail white and then do the floor and steps cedar and then the posts to the deck and the baseboards white. -
Anyone help me out with a copy of a blank fax cover page? If so, could you please email it to me at the_GUNN_man@yahoo.com Thanks for the help.

Just a basic cover page. I am too lazy to make one and wondered if someone else had one off hand.
