Handy little tool for winterizing
Chuck Richard replied to Chuck Richard's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Screw it into the water intake. You can just hold the air to it til it starts blowing out the end of your pressure hose. It takes me about a min. per gallon to evacuate my system. Each unit holds 3 gal. of water from pump to hose end. The intake side usally has between 5-6 gal. Empty all your intake filters to keep them from busting. I forgot to about a month ago and the filter housing was laying on the ground the next morning. Kinda set me back a little but not a big problem. -
I use ultra Ivory but I add it in addition to the emulsifier plus to help the windows rinse better. My thinking is most dishes are made of glass and it helps them rinse streak free... but I repeat you should add a quality chemical as Paradise said. It will help the job go alot smoother and get off stuff dish soap would never remove without scrubbing.

I like using bleach and emulsifier-plus from e-spec. It works really well at getting everything off the house and is versitile. It can be used full strength as a great degreaser and concrete cleaner. But there are so many diffrent mixes out there that work great. I suggest finding out what you can get to do the job for the best price and best convience. There are alot of products. Just look at everyones suggestions, try the ones you like and see what works for you.

If you got off 40 onto 86 you were in my town. Angier is about 45min - 1 hour away. What was he working on off 86?

That was more than a few...lol... Bleach can damage glass and brass if left on to long. Never allow it to dry. I always put atleast a little bleach in because sometimes the mildew isn't visible til you hit it with the bleach and it begins to die. I don't think there are any real dangers if it is used properly. Taking the time to rinse really well as well as pre-wetting plants and grass generally eliminates the unwanted side affects of bleach use. I don't see any reason not to use oxigenated bleach as a house wash. Finding a good surficant for it might be a problem, but i'm sure theres one out there. There are so many ways I really don't think you can classify one as the best. Whatever works for you is the best way to do it. I use to think I had the best way, but alot of other peoples ways work just as well. Most houses I wash are semi-gloss paint so the drying of the pigments and gloss enhancement is not a problem. I usally just use a much milder soap on flat or older paint.

Very good points guys, practice, practice, practice. I worked for someone else doing it before striking out on my own. Learning, researching and practicing can make this a much more profitable venture for you and will save you the trouble of learning the hard way, although no matter how good you are its bound to happen every now and then.

By the time the bleach reaches the plants it so diluted it won't hurt them, but always prewet all plants and rinse afterwards just to be safe. Be really careful around rose bushes, they are very sensative and will die very easily. I use soak the ground around them til the soil can't take any more then cover them with plastic. You can use just dishwashing soap and be fine but on really dirty house I would use a much better soap, an emulsifier of some kind.

Handy little tool for winterizing

Mike, it has gotton down to around 18 degrees with no problem. It will leave a few droplets of water behind but not enough to cause damage or problems. It used to take me about 45 min. to winterize, now it takes about 5.' When ever I get to the job I open the water valve and let the pump prime its self and then I go to town. To keep water out of the intake lines I feed air through til it starts bubbling in the tank the I shut the valve that lets water flow. The trapped air holds all water in tank so my intake lines won't freeze. -
I have never heard of him. What city is he in? As far as the drain goes, your guess is as good as mine. Dosn't make much sense not to have a drain. She dosn't want to seal the drive, but I am going back to put Ready Seal on the deck in 6 months.

Thank you! That is my little angel Carson Daniel. Heres a little clearer picture.

I prefer hot water but you can still do a good job without it. I don't like to use the truck wash but it will work and there are folks who use it successfuly. I would use just industrial grade 15% bleach and a good soap of some kind mixed together and then applied to the house through either down stream or up stream injection. Be careful with aluminum siding, espiacaly the older it is. It will damage very easily and for that reason I myself prefer not to do aluminum siding unless things get slow. Hope this will help. There really isn't a pressure control other than the tip you use. The smaller the hole, the more the pressure but it will only go as high as your pump is capable of.

Wood Cleaning
Chuck Richard replied to misskriss's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Use cold water, low pressure(1000-1500psi). To me there are a few that stand out, but it depends on if your cleaning or stripping. Which are you wondering about? -
After a little Sure Clean 600

To top it off I did the driveway, garage, sidewalk, and curb(Chapel Hill requires all public walking areas be free of mud and debris before they will pass the final inspection).

Had to do the deck and full basement too. No drains in the basement and alot of dirt and mud. I had to use a shop vac with a sqeegee attachment to rid the floor of water and dirt after cleaning. I took this pic yesterday after I finished the brick.

I took a male hose end with a hose barb and attached a peice of hose to it. On the other end I placed a air valve into a bushing then into another hose barb and attached it to the hose. When I gei home and its going to freeze I just screw this onto my pump and throw the compressed air to it. I can make my whole system water free in just a few minutes. -
Now you got it! Can you add my banner sometime or tell me how?

Cleaning work at construction sites beyond pressure cleaning
Chuck Richard replied to Chuck Richard's topic in Construction Cleaning
Your right! I just cleaned up behind the messiest masons I'v ever seen and it can really add time to a job Quick. These guys and gals I met were in the process of cleaning all paint overspray, stickers, writing, and in this case mortar. They made those windows look so good it was unbelievable. They do every house built by 8 diffrent builders. To say the least, they stay busy. Looks like a near future add on for me! -
The pixels are right but the bytes are still set at 1024.
-
I tried to but it will only allow 50 pixels by 50 pixels which is way to small. needs to be about 110 or 120. Even after I made it 50x50 it still said it had too many bytes.
