  1. I agree whole heartily with you Allison, but let me ask you this......Why is there "Racial Tension"? Why is it automatically "Racial" when an American of African Decent is shot or killed by another race, but not considered "Racial" when an American of African Decent shoots or kills another race? Is this not as "Racial"? Happens all the time, where is the Media, is this not as news worthy? Where are the Politicians? Where is the outrage like we see in this case?

    .

I stayed up until 1:30 last night writing out a well crafted, deeply thought out response to this. Then when I went to post I realized I was no longer logged in to TGS and I lost the whole thing. So, I'm following my gut and sticking to my mantra of not talking politics. (But you have a legitimate point. I tend to see both sides of situations, so I get where they are coming from as well.)

  2. We own enough guns to share with every one of you! Remember, my husband builds them for a living. It's been quite a change for me since I grew up in a household with zero guns. But now we have closets full. None are loaded and the ammunition is stored elsewhere. I'm not even sure where, and I prefer it that way... . As for the Zimmerman case, I honestly stopped following it very early on. It's one of those things where I realized I would never know the full story, so to have a strong opinion about who was right and who was wrong didn't make sense to me. A friend posted something on Facebook that I appreciated, although I didn't fully agree with: "None of us have enough context on the George Zimmerman case to waste one electron volt's worth of emotional energy on it. It is time to spend more time/energy on our own lives: developing our own character; exploring the depths of God's Grace and loving those around us deeper each day and trust God with the rest." I don't agree that it's "wasting" emotional energy to "mourn" over the case. A child died. Racial tension is growing. Our nation is dividing. I believe that God, even in His sovereignty over the situation, is still mourning the situation.

  3. This is Puggles, our Shnoodle (or that's what we think she is...Schnauzer/poodle mix). In 2009, my daughter Abby -- who was 4 -- wanted a dog more than anything in the world. We were on our way to Petco one day just to look at the animals when she asked me when we could get a dog. I told her probably when Michael (my husband) returned from Afghanistan. We entered Petco to immediately hear an elderly man talking with one of the clerks. He had found the dog that was with him about a week ago, and could not find the owner. He didn't want to put her into a shelter, but was about to start dialysis and couldn't keep her. Next thing I knew, I had a dog. The thing was, I had a dog without Mike's blessing, and I had a dog despite the fact that my son, Ethan -- who has autism -- was TERRIFIED of dogs. Mike was livid when I emailed him about what I'd done. Ethan cried and locked himself in the house away from Puggles. So she stayed outside for several months. Mike returned home, met Puggles in person, fell in LOVE with her. (I can't believe how much he adores her considering how he was with our previous dogs). Ethan remained afraid of her...until one magical moment. He wanted to play on the swingset in the backyard but was afraid because Puggles was there. Mike told him to just go on in the yard with the dog, and for some reason, Ethan did. From that moment on, Ethan loved Puggles -- and all dogs. He even goes with us to the dog park and plays with all the dogs now! Puggles sleeps on my feet every night (something I NEVER thought Mike would allow), cuddles on my lap while I work, and so on. She is the sweetest, good-for-nothing but cuddles and companionship dog I've ever met. Not very bright. Not very observant. Not very tough. But she LOVES her family, and we all love our Puggles!

  4. Funny part was that you and I won, but Rob lost quite a bit! I think I head to Vegas in September for CETA. Won't be the same without you guys though...unless ya'll wanna come too! That'd be fun! Hey, I was going to email you about this, but might as well ask you here. Did you know the Long Island police guy/comedian that was on America's Got Talent the other night?

  5. Hey guys. I'm thinking of writing an article for the next eClean Magazine that talks about cleaning/restoring wooden docks (on the water). I assume they present some unique challenges? If you have ideas about what this needs to be covered in this piece, if you want to be interviewed, if you have photos or if you'd be interested in writing this article instead of me, please let me know ASAP. You can reply here, or email me at allison214@live.com. Thank you!

One thing God can give us is Peace in our Hearts.

"Scripture is referred to as our sword. We only have one weapon, and the more you know the more effective it is. Its the difference between a water piston and a sniper rifle. Ephesians 6:11-17 talks about all the things that we have as we go into battle. Most of the things mentioned are for defense. The only thing we are given for active defense, or to fight back with, is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Whether spoken, written, drawn, sculpted or whatever... the Word of God is alive and powerful. There is just as much power in hearing it as there is in reading it. Either way, we are called to know it and write it on our hearts."

Michael (my husband) was an athiest until he was around 26. He started doing calligraphy when he was teaching sniper school, and got hold of a King James Bible -- the ones they give the military -- so he practiced his calligraphy by writing scripture from it. Didn't even really pay attention to what he was writing, but in a few short months, he went from an athiest to believing in God, then soon after belieiving in Jesus as Lord and Savior.

  7. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

    Jeremiah 29:11

    Isaiah 49:13

Shout for joy, you heavens; rejoice, you earth; burst into song, you mountains! For theLord comfs orthis people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.

"I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security." - Jeremiah 33:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -- Phillipians 4:6-7

(And finally, these next two are my favorites as a mommy)

He tends His flock like a shepherd, He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads those that have young.

    -- Isaiah 40:11

He grants SLEEP to those He loves.

    -- Psalm 127:2

  8. I just got a note from one of our subscribers telling me he was having to leave the industry. A botched surgery messed up his ability to clean, and his son fell and injured the nerves in his right hand, and will not be able to use it again.

As you may know, our publisher (and my dear friend) Steve Stephens ended his 30 year cleaning business following a horrific car accident in 2008.

Just all serves as a reminder that we are not invincible. Backup plans, insurance, savings, retirement...easy to put on the back burner, but imperative to keep in the forefront.
