  1. Times change and things move forward. It is with these changes and forward motion that I now am resigning my position as Moderator here at TGS effective immediately. As much as I have enjoyed the company, the networking and the education found on this site, we are exploring other avenues that require our time and attention. You’ll not see much of us on any of the forums but stay tuned to some other interesting things we have coming out :) Should anyone need assistance in planning or promoting networking events, please contact me directly!

Thank you for your work with the promoting /sponsoring/doing etc etc with the most successful NC RT. What a note to end on....

someone did the GA RT in Dec and just quit - you did the NC RT and just quit... is this a trend or am I reading too much between the lines???

  2. OK - this is new for me - a hose perforator.

Its a piece of wood with a handle on it with nails sticking out just long enough to pierce the outer cover of hi pressure hose for getting rid of the pimples / bumps caused by moisture being caught between the outer cover and the wire. These pimples/bumps are not only a hot water phenomena. and the perforations ensure a long life.

    Is this news to anyone?

  3. im getting into pressurewashing and im looking for the best deal on a direct drive washer for the $ im looking for 1 around $1200 and would like to know what kind of hours to look for out of it.

The diference between direct drive and belt driven = direct drive uses a smaller space but the close proximity of the pump and motor gives you a overheating pump that does not last very long - belt drive is a bigger footprint but a cooler running pump. The Honda engine will last as long IMO but the pump is the difference. There have been big improvements in direct drives but think about very few industrialunits are direct drive. Some hot water units use direct drive in the interest of compactness.

Work out the cu (Cleaning units) before you buy a pressure washer - 2000psi at 1.6GPM = 3200 cu

    3000psi at 3.6GPM =10800 cu

If you buy a unit with not enough cu you will be wasting your time and your customers as well.

Put another way a drive way will take 10 hours and look OK for a short time but with more cu you could do the driveway in 2/3 of the time - it will look better and because of the shorter time used this reduces your cost per hour and increases your profit $$$.

Don't sell your services for too few $$$ you should get about $100+ per hour

    at least.

  4. Why men have better friends

    Friendship between Women:

A woman didn't come home one night. The next day she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend's house. The man called his wife's 10 best friends. None of them knew about it.

    Friendship between Men:

A man didn't come home one night. The next day he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend's house. The woman called her husband's 10 best friends. Eight of them confirmed that he had slept over, and two claimed that he was still there!

  5. The easiest way is to take the snap ring off the outside and slide the outer part of the swivel off. You can then get to the wrench flats which will unscrew the swivel body from the reel tube. Then you must remove the hose from the back of the swivel body.

    Rus

From what I understand - his does not have the snap ring like the Rapid Reel - I can't really imagine how its put together without the ring.

On the Rapid Reel without removing the snap ring to change the hose is firstly quite difficult and you stand a chance of bending/breaking your swivel off the live center.

I hope he sends some pictures and we could advise him how to do it.

  6. Hello Everyone, I am posting this in several boards to try to get the answer. I have a couple of hose reels that look identical to the Rapid Reel brand but there is a spring between the swivel and the hose reel. I cannot get my wrench in there to unscrew the swivel. Is there a trick to this or a special tool needed? Thanks for any help.

    What is the Brand?

How about some pictures to explain what it looks like - I have some Rapid reels and they have a big outside C-Clip keeping them together?

  7. We only use the grey non marking hose R2 4500 psi 100 ft lengths no longer, if one blows we carry alot of back ups, although we use our PW a ton of hours never had the grey hose bust or leak, and thats with big dump trucks driving over them etc.. almost 3 years now never had a to replace any of my 6 hoses

although we do replace the brass couplers often they rust bad and get really hard to snap on and off, I would love to have the auto wind up but seems way to costly.. anyone find reasonable prices on those..?

    Rob

3 years now and no leaking or busting - what pressure / flow and are you using hot water.

Who is the manufacturer of that hose?

I only ever use black hose but will now consider changing (I have not had any problem with hose marking the area's cleaned). I use black because its cheaper but only get about 2 years and I am still PT. Nobody ever ran over one of my hoses. I use strict hose management and wont let it happen for fear of damage to my hoses.

    Thanks for the reply

  8. Ron

Thanks for your time the other day - it was very informative. I like your idea of solid connections as they would roll easier onto the hose reel. Do you have a hose crimper to put these on or do you use a local hydraulic hose shop. Which brings me to my next question - do you or anybody else for that matter buy your hose in baulk on a big roll and cut and crimp when needed - if so is that a big saving?

    Prices...

    I have recently paid $90 for 100' R2 3/8

    and $150 for 100' R2 1/2 all with male /female couplings.

  9. I went from 3/8" R2 to 1/2" R2 and cannot feel the extra 10 pounds on the ground. My shoulders have gotten wider though, Coincidence????

    Alan

A while ago you said that you would be replacing all your 3/8" R2 hose to 1/2" R2 hose - how has that turned out - probably too soon to say if your hoses are lasting longer but I am sure you will find less backpressure on your pumps will give longer service intervals.

    Rob

  10. i don't see the need for 4500 psi hose if you are not exceding that psi. it is just more weight to carry around.

    Jim

I could not tell the weight difference between regular and the 4500psi hose but if weight is a problem then I would highly highly reccomend a ZK1 unloader - its like going on vacation - an absolute pleasure. When you release the trigger the hose which is normally rigid and heavy, turns limp and lifeless - when you pull the trigger again, there a 1/4 second lag till you are back at full power.

Try it you wont be sorry.

  11. That's an impressive set up. You bought two machines 10gpm and 15gpm? TOTAL = 25gpm? What kind of engine/pump combination are you running? quote].

    Mike.

I have 2 pumps a 10GPM(with jetter feature) and a 5GPM if I couple the pumps then I will have 15GPM. We have a Clean and Recovery dual axle setup with 2 x 37HP Kohler engines. Also driven by these 2 engines are, a 5MP Sutorbilt blower, a 3.500W generator and a compressor for a diaphragm pump. I only take delivery in 2 weeks time and only have some pictures of our R&D unit that were taken at the recent GA Roundtable.

  12. Thanks - I am now a TGS member.

I use black hose R2 (4500psi + 2 wire) 3/8" for my portable PW unit that has a cox hose reel attached. I use a 100'+50'lengths - my theory is when the 50' length on the end wears out, it does not cost that much to replace just the end piece. Problem is it does not roll on well, because of the join, but is a useful length for most small jobs.

Does anyone do as I do and buy 50' hoses still?

Does anyone use this same theory?

How long does your hose last?

When I get my big unit in 2/3 weeks time (10GPM/15GPM) , I will have a 300' electric reel and I want to use 1/2" R2 hose on that reel. Should I use 100/200/300 foot lengths - all in 1/2" or at least the 1st 100' in 1/2" and the balance in 3/8 ???????

Please let us know what you use and your advice on this subject. I tried to find if this was covered in any other forums - if this is an old subject please forgive my ignorance and direct me to that post.

  13. I have 18 month old Titan reels never a problem, I love them, sturdy well built and reel nice, I have 4 month old Hose Tract and they S--K, the locking pins fall out and also break completly. I have one that the core is starting to collapse. Wont ever buy them again

Core Collapse - this will happen if you run your pressure washer with the hose on the reel. It should be unwound.
