The toners have zero longevity. We got nine months on a stripped cedar sided house before mildew started and the bleach wash removed anything remaining. Just love those total redo's that send you upside down in a job :(

Adding to Robert's bullet point #2.......BMP's are NOT law. That being said, it is the contractors responsibility to "keep up with them" as they can be changed at any given time with no notification being required.

+10........Robert, you know me and my position on things that directly affect the contractor. I am right beside Guy in his questions. We have blindly followed for years.....but our eyes are opening - please explain your position(s) to the CONTRACTOR - as a person, an educator, not from the sales position you held for years. Jeff L has posted this - I thought I should put it here. RIP Bobby I found out from Trae in Charleston that Bobby Weir passed away. A neighbor found him dead on his front lawn. I met Bobby at the first Myrtle Beach Round Table he owned Coastal Hydropower and I met up with him at another MB RT and he was in Charleston too. Bobby was a very nice guy, we spoke several times over the phone. When I was going through some heated stuff with the ***** he called a few times and just said do what you think is right. Very supportive, straight up and nice guy. We use to talk shop at the RT's and on the phone and sent him some referrals. Sad I was stunned that he died and at such a young age. What have you told your customer the "lifespan" of stain on ipe is? That will be part of your decision. We personally wouldn't put either.

We've been using one on our wood set-up for over 4 years now with no problems.

We'd do a total strip....not try to "match" - it'll never happen. Ask that rep how many times he's actually done that.

Rob, for decks that size, of course having more than one in a day would be preferable. We have a number of customers over that direction so if they are just here and there, we could probably combine. And considering how far out we are, maybe we could put together a promo to schedule multiples. As far as what stain, we can generally swing homeowners to our way of thinking - it's all about educating them. Unless we know who washed and what the process is, we usually decline stain only simply because the last contractor to touch it gets blamed when it goes bad and we all know that proper prep is key to the job. We're getting ready to get nailed with some huge-mongous medical bills so I doubt we're going to turn away much of anything! Celeste

It is doable - but only if you are really really comfortable with your surfacer and know the proper tips. We didn't do it until quite a few years under the belt and only on really tremendous projects. Here's a photo of IPE which is tougher than regular PT that was damaged by a surface cleaner :mad: We had to fix that mess!

Well I certainly admire your persistence - you are definitely going to get this :) We would probably be inclined to (after ALL of that paint is sanded off) re-wash the deck and brighten to try and even up the wood a bit. NO PAINT. You're going to want to use an oil based product - so you never have to go through what you are right now again! Are you planning to order a product or go to a paint or box store?

Neutralize after you have finished with the stripping. You're going to need to let it dry before taking a sander to it - and to make sure you're happy with the amount of stuff you got off. What do you know about sanding? We use random orbitals but not with sand paper. And no one can determine what is reasonable without pictures :)

And back-charge the masons!
