Staining with Coress Wand
Celeste posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Here is a before shot of one of the mansard style cedar shake roofs in our current project (bit nasty!) The second is Roger staining using the Coress (Thank you Matt Johnson!) This is making this job go sooo much faster! Celeste -
Staining with Coress Wand
Celeste replied to Celeste's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Wow - sorry we've been so out of touch the last couple days! I gotta toss a little honesty in on those particular pics though - those pics were staged - staining was pretty much complete so the clean up was done but I was fussing so much for pictures that they did those for me just for illustrative purposes. When the wind blows in NC, we just don't spray :) Down in SC on that job, it was so hot and humid, nothing went anywhere! We're applying Wood Defender on this job so overspray really just goes straight down. There's pine straw around the edge of the grass so the stain doesn't show. Bushes and sidewalks are covered. We're very anal about prep - hate cleaning up! And like Matthew said, chems go up with it beautifully! Another neat trick was a little duel nozzle contraption that goes on the Coress - makes rinsing twice as fast! Roger, we absolutely use it on gutters when we do them - we have a flow through brush attachment for it just for that. Celeste -
We put the same product (slightly different color) on a drive 2 years ago...it has only faded a little but otherwise is holding up beautifully! Looks great Barry - glad it worked for you! Celeste

We have family close by and I like Wilmington as well. Nothing like getting away and getting paid :) Celeste

Bill, We can do Wilmington work - currently booking the latter part of June, but give us a yell :) Celeste PS - Have an apartment available down there so accomodations are no problem.

Fence Pricing-Benchmarking
Celeste replied to bforbis's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We feel the customer out to see if the prep will be more or the staining. Often customers only want the wood cleaned and ready for them to stain - that's when we rebalance our charge to make our staining less costly. If we know they're going to hire us for 100%, pricing stays normal which is roughly the same for staining as prepping. Brent, I would love for you to set a 1.25/sq ft benchmark for fence staining around here! Folks in our area won't pay it....nearly keel over dead if you try to get .75/sq to clean and seal! -
EEuuuwwwww. Tony what was that?

I can't speak for your truck (our company owns ours so we write off everything on it) but as it has been explained to me, not only can you write off the fuel for your pressure washer, you can also claim some other credit or something for the "road tax" that is included in the gas price. Since you're using the gas off the road, we should not be paying it. Work for lawn mowers, boats, tractors, and the like.

Deck Restoration - Latest
Celeste posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Here is Roger's latest project :) We've nicknamed it the "Bling Bling" deck - sun hits on those big ole copper post caps and you're blinded! Stripped with HD80, neutralized with Citralic and finished with Wood Tux Wet (no tint) Celeste -

Snane - those things were a PITA! Roger ended up removing all and saved time that way....much easier to get to the inside without them in the way. Benches looked rather nice without them as well but they went back up. Jimmy, it's not orange when it cures out - be patient! You can also tint with a little black to get a browner finish. Roger can tell you the amounts. Dan, There was very little furring - it took less than 30 minutes with the Makita & defelting pad. That deck is about 15 years old. We're using WTW on about everything at this time. Celeste -
wood furring question

According to Jim (and Sikkens), if you're using a film forming stain, it won't perform. The stain can't adhere properly. Celeste -

Yeah, we got floor shots just for you Shane :) This pic of the bench will give you a view of the floor as well. Strangest bench construction! I added another before shot as well - this deck had some neon green stuff growing! Celeste -

We put WTW on an ipe deck in March - realizing that some of you can't wait for the results of aging, we will continue to monitor how it works just for posterity's sake :) Celeste -

Thank you thank you :) It's just pressure treated. We did install the new copper caps as well....the old ones, like the old lattice, disintegrated! Celeste -

Beth, We replaced it with the vinyl stuff - the old wood literally dissintegrated when it was pulled off. They're getting ready to have all of the house trim painted white - hopefully it will tie in perfectly at that point :) Thanks Ken :) Celeste -

Ditto to John Orr's comment and Legal Disclaimer :) The worst experience we had with Service Magic thusfar is their relentless pursuit of our business. Once we signed on last year, they've been great! If I don't like a lead, I get a credit....if my credit has expired, they give me another one. Celeste

He used to but got too busy to mess with it.....he found us and it's been a great relationship ever since. Celeste -
Deck Builders
Celeste replied to Mountain View's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We do.......our builder knows our pricing structure and builds it in his estimates. He also refers all calls he gets for cleaning/stripping/staining straight to us. He'll be happy with us this year since one of our ads got put under Deck Builders, instead of Deck Cleaning so we'll be bidding those for him :) Can't say that I've ever had a bad side to our arrangement :) Celeste -
Interesting FAQ's
Celeste replied to Mountain View's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hmmm, only guaranteeing color for 18 months. Wood Defender themselves give better longevity than these guys. I like #9 as well where they say they make their own stain.
