  1. Funny Request for Service

That's the call this a.m. Here in Graham, no one but the FD is allowed to hook to hydrants but we can go to the city garage and fill from there, not sure about Pittsboro though. Of all days for it NOT to rain...we're sealing like crazy - easy water money may fly away!!!
  2. Olympic Sealer

I saw that one today too! Might have to take a trip to Lowe's tomorrow - things that make you go hmmmmm. Celeste
  3. Funny Request for Service

Told him we'd call him back tomorrow......job is in another town. No way on a Sunday afternoon are we going to haul 3 tanks of water from our house! I'm not too sure we'd want to do it anyway but it was pretty funny :)
  4. Weather

We're going to put some on our already dead deck this weekend (seeing as we don't have to wait for the wood to dry - unlike the 23 decks that are waiting for sealer!!!) then try to strip it next weekend. I figure it will be hardest to strip when it's in its first season. Will keep all updated on the results and products used :) Celeste
  5. Hi all

Scott, if you and Angela get back tenfold what you give....you guys are set! If you get back in business revenues tenfold what you give, you're gonna die from all the work you have!!! Best of luck and you will be blessed for what you're doing. Glad to know you guys only suffered a little computer and DSL hit and all else seems to be fine :) Celeste
  6. Weather

We would consider it a semi-transparent...it's definitely not a solid. Look at the picture of our business card in the gallery.....that's the deck with the Spa n Deck on it. Celeste
  7. Weather

For what it's worth - those who hate acrylic film formers, don't read this! We put Flood Spa n Deck on a deck last year. The base coat, which is an oil, goes on wet (not damp, wet) wood. While the base product is still in a tacky state, the color coat (acrylic) goes on. Thus far, the projects we put this on have showed NO wear, fading, peeling, cracking - nothing. I'm sure when it comes time to strip this, it's going to be the strip project from hell.....we'll report on that one when we try it. Celeste
  8. How do you get shingle tar off siding

Are you talking about large amounts or splatters? In our construction exteriors, if we find splashes, we've had luck with Goo Gone or Goof Off....one of those Goo cleaners. You'd think that SH would work but we had NO luck with it. Celeste
  9. Contractors License

Ditto Lance. Also, think of every piece of paper/certification/accredidation, etc... you can add to your company as validity, credibility and evidence of having a vested interest in your company's longevity. The more you invest in your business, the longer your staying power, which is what will keep us real guys around for the long haul. We actually had a client ask us directly "Are you going to be in business next year?" Of course we answered yes, however when she saw our setup, insurance, certification, etc... it only reinforced our answer. Bring on the licensing! Celeste
  10. Don't you just love it when the homeowner tries to do our job and figures out why we do it and not them????? The "clean" section was where he took a turbo tip to it :banghead: This deck is built so sturdy though, that the guy drives his 4-wheelers on it and parks them (and it shows!) He has said he won't do it after we're through though, thank goodness.
  11. Contractors License

Although some ofyou guys may feel like the licensing is a pain, I WISH we had some kind of requirements here besides a $25 privilege license. New Home Depot with all of the sales has given birth to a rash of PW wannabees - they're making me crazy! I can't wait for the day when licensing is something to have in this industry. Celeste
  12. Fat Snake.

    Ugh....still having the willies.
  13. Fat Snake.

Nabbed? Hooked? What were you doing, fishing for it? Ugh, I have the willies now - I hate snakes. Celeste
  14. about how much are you clearing?

We have one in college, three still at home, large mortgages and so far no one looks like they're starving :) (Then again, don't ask me this in January!) Consider what bennies you may be losing if you leave your real job - THAT can get scary. How strong is your commitment to being self-employed? Celeste
  15. cleaning copper awnings and gutters??

The muriatic based brick cleaners contain so many other ingredients that it's okay. Rinsing takes care of it :) Celeste
  16. Philadelphia Restoration Project

Ken, SafeRestore will take care of the mold problem for you :) Call Bob Port, Restoration Direct - this is what he does. 1-717-554-4292 He sells chems for EacoChem and Diedtrich I believe. He is the guy that hooked us up with Eacochem's NMD80. He's extremely knowledgeable, very willing to help over the phone and may even come on site - don't know how far Pittsburgh is from you. Celeste
  17. Company Shirts

We have been printing our own t-shirts, but Roger does go through a bunch. Now they get separated into cleaning shirts, staining shirts, estimating shirts, and just dead shirts :) Celeste
  18. Company Shirts

Does the size of the embroidery matter? There was no digital fee? Did that include the shirts? Celeste
  19. You need to center the tank over the axle. Then put the skid in front of the tank. If you dont do it like this the trailer will have a mind of its own. Look at some of the other rigs on this site or on other sites to get an idea. You should have room on the back for your reels. What weight axle is under the trailer? Most 10 ft. trailers comes with 2000 to 3500 lbs axles. ( if you over load the trailer you stand a good chance of breaking the springs or the axle) You can get a 6000 lbs. axle for it. Next question. Does the trailer have brakes on it? If it doesn't then I would look into a good set of electric brakes for it. Roger
  20. how do you work around mulch?

Pretty much every day.....sealing if it's dry, new construction/brick if it's not :) Just give us a call! Celeste
  21. how do you work around mulch?

Hey Coop - are you going to come over and play with us one day? We'll take you out to one of the new constructions we have next week and you can see what mud really is :) Celeste
  22. Proposal writing - Need some help!

We have a detailed scope of work that we use for wood - I have also just submitted the first draft of the scope of work that the PWNA has approved and will be basing the "industry standard" on for residential new constuction cleaning if you think that might help jump start you. What type of work are you doing for them? Celeste
  23. cabots

Also with the dwell times you should keep it wet with the stripper. Don't let it get dry. Your dwell on that stain may be alot longer on the runs. So spray it let dwell for 15 min. and spray it some more, and let it dwell for another 15 min. Beth is right about the warm water it helps. Roger
  24. Is anyone seeing the use of this type of PT wood? This could be nice to come across since the moisture content of regular PT around here (the stuff from the local HI stores is in excess of 28% during building) Coxwood is the newest rage - it's dry! Celeste:lgbounces
  25. It's Beth's Birthday!

Happy Birthday to you.....Happy Birthday to you..........Happy Birthday to Beth....... Happy Birthday to You! :lgbounces :lgbounces :lgbounces and many moooorrrre. Love ya, Celeste PS - Be very very glad you can't hear me singing this :)
