What chat topics do YOU want to see scheduled?
Celeste replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
Brick cleaning - new construction - old brick cleaning & restoration! -
JD, Clearly you already know that quantity alone will dictate a lower price per property. Kills me to think what we'd normally get for doing some of the contract work we have! I would think that a standard letter of intro, with what you would be providing as well as providing your insurance information should be enough to get you in the door. Our best luck has been face to face meeting - usually walk out the door with the work. Good luck :) Celeste

:lgangel: Why, thaaank ya'll, kind sir.

Bob, Please don't confuse wanting to get my money's worth out of something with loyalty. As a female, I have that whole fixit gene and I can see ways upon ways to make this whole thing a positive action....however, resistance is prevailing at the moment. Here's my honest position in a nutshell......I came, I saw, I joined - I want to help, I will try to help and at the end of our year, we will make our decision. It's business that's all. I'm taking the position of trying to be part of a solution. If it works, lots of good can come....if not, it'll be one heck of a wake. Celeste

Okay, we can agree to disagree on this wait and see thing but let me point out - this BoD historically takes time to discuss and plan and implement things....we've complained about that. They had a quasi-planned knee jerk reaction to a bbs that was getting out of control. They acted quickly (since we all griped about slowness), they possibly (did in my opinion) made an error in the extremity of things but nothing that has been done can't be undone, changed, or improved upon. Celeste

I think if everyone would take a deep breath and let them finish what they've started, it might not be as bad as it appears. Change takes time and they need to regroup. Patience, Grasshopper :) Celeste
-
Let's just leave this alone at present.....changes take some time to come around fully. There's a new BoD coming in, and they're may be a better solution on the horizon. We can all continue to enjoy the suggestions, advise and conversation on this and other bbs's without worrying about what's going to happen over there. Celeste

What Tools Are Needed For Interior Post Contruction Cleanup
Celeste replied to bfenne's topic in Construction Cleaning
It's in Germantown Maryland - only about 3.5 hours from you. It's going to be great (they always are) Doesn't start until about 1:00 so you could go down and maybe even back in the same day. We're driving up from NC, others are coming from further up north. It will be well worth your time if you can make it :) Celeste -
I don't think it's going to happen - I just think some changes will be made, maybe a few limitations and a raised level of "policing" of threads. We'll see :) Celeste

Hey Carlos - whatcha seeing over there? Celeste :)
-
I agree with Cujo - I will continue to support the organization as long as I feel like they are moving forward (somewhere). At this point, the BoD is damned if they do, damned if they don't. I guess the main source of my disappointment is that they could have seen a good bit of this coming and didn't take the time (that they historically do) to completely evaluate the cause and effect. Delegation is something that seems to be improving and hopefully, new blood and volunteers will bring a different life to the organization as a whole. Celeste PS Is it really shut down - it looks the same to me but since I'm a member, I can still see everything that was there last night. I was under the impression that this was up for discussion on the board call tonight ?

I like the new look with the sand.....very comfortable to look at :)

Hey Robert, You going to make it up to DC this weekend? Or, would you be available if we managed a Raleigh area RT in mid-March? Celeste

Which Sealer(s) are you using this year?
Celeste replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Also Flood Spa n' Deck (contractor grade!) which is the one day process - with Carolina weather to contend with, we almost have to use something that doesn't require a lot of dry time. I understand that Wood Tux Wet! is coming available - seen results there and mmmm, very nice :) - Also there is BioWash (Pete, pipe in?) and a new Cabot's one day stain? Celeste -
Mike, I'm thinking about planning one for March myself - here's how I want to see it go: First 30-45 minutes - Meet other attendees and briefly visit any vendor tables that may be set up Sit down to eat (don't know about the rest of you but I like to concentrate on my food and not share too much attention trying to learn something at the same time) After food, if you have a speaker or demonstration - move to that section Visit vendor tables again if they're there & let folks break into groups if you have more than one topic - kind of like 1st graders with their "centers" Have drawing(s) for door prizes if available Encourage sharing of cards, contacts, info, etc... Be the last one to leave :) Comments on what will or won't work would be appreciated! Celeste

Cabot's throws an offering into the ring
Celeste replied to PressurePros's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Just for the record.....the Flood Spa 'n Deck is listed as a Contractor grade product as well. Celeste -
Thanks Carlos :) Celeste

Sprayer for using ready seal stain
Celeste replied to mmpjr7's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Our airless sprayer is a Tital 440i - love it for some things, but not Ready Seal....atomizes it too much. We'll be trying our Deckster with it if spring ever gets here! -
Hey Carlos! Can you email to : carolinaprowash@triad.rr.com Thanks, Celeste

There are so many different phone numbers around our area anymore, no one knows whether you have a cell phone or not - YELLOW PAGES WILL LIST YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER in your ad. As I stated above, if you're not in the yellow pages, why would you care if you're in the white pages? Folks don't look for contractors in the white pages. Let me point this out, and I mean no disrespect to Beth & Rod or Carlos, who are clearly larger than 1-2 man operations - The original poster is a small one-man operation. If he's working by himself, chances are if he had the additional funds to hire another body, it would be to work in the field with him as opposed to sitting waiting for a phone to ring. It is feasible to maintain a professional business in the early years with just a cell phone. If the cell starts ringing 20 times an hour, you're obviously gonna be outgrowin' your 1 man operation status pretty quick and then, hire a secretary. When you get a secretary, welcome to white collar world. Blue collars are expected to be on the job site - and that's another purpose for that nice truck - quiet cab to talk in. Frankly, our callers like to know we're busy - makes them wonder when you're just sitting around the office waiting for the phone to ringaling. Our position was to keep monthly expenses as low as possible for as long as possible and put our hard earned dollars where they could be working for us the most while we're also working. Just my .05, Celeste

Children reasons are a whole different animal - land line is a must for safety.

I think that may be directly related to your machine....I don't know the link, but it was very interesting reading as to the number of bars/gpm of the machine and how fast you could go. We've been using a large 3-bar, wheeled surface cleaner. We have a smaller floater that we have not tried out yet :) Celeste

Scott - Our BellSouth yellow page ad lists our Nextel numbers in the ad, in the column and in the white page listings. Like I said, they're the ad dept - they don't care who your phone service is through. Same with Sprint. Celeste

In response to my faxing question - My insurance agent sends out all of my insurance info so all I have to do is make a phone call there. Internet is cable so no phone needed. For less than it would cost me to get all lan-lined up, we use a laptop and portable printer so that quotes can be prepared and left in one visit. Most all other documents can be emailed so I'm still thinking that one can definitely proceed with only the cell phones :) Celeste

We have yet to have a burning need for a fax line - what's everyone faxing these days? Just curious as to what I'm missing out on! Celeste
