Celeste

1 - your measurements are off
2 - you are going to lose money at $1.00......we start NO lower than $1.95 for PT and it goes up from there.
3 - TSP? to strip.......you need to study more and practice on someone other than a customer.

It is ridiculous to even think that old wood and new wood would stain the same! You can't even truly guarantee that any wood isn't going to vary slightly simply because of age, exposure and the fact that not all boards are even cut from the same tree!!
If you laid 10 people out in the sun.....none of them are going to tan/burn the same. The same theory can be applied to wood.
-
Depends on how you feel about dealing with it when it looks like crap - whatever happens will be "all your fault". I'm fairly certain that every wood pro on this forum would say NO.

Being happy........I'm 100% there with my family.......90% there getting away from this industry :)

Congrats on your new found "freedom" - you've earned it! Now bring your wife and family down this way to visit :)

Nah, I like my bag just the way it is :) Pistol stays loaded - not packing extra ammo - bugs don't like me, plenty of natural antibiotics to be found and hell no to MRE's.....I know where I'd bug to, plenty plenty of food to be found :)

Bathing suit, cooler, shot glass, bottle opener, cowboy hat, flip flops (well actually, those just stay on my feet all the time), music if possible, pistol.

Cleaning aged brick is really no different than washing anything else....no reason to make it an "add-on" IMO. New brick is a completely different story.

Woooow Rod!!!I really appreciate all the information you keep posting on every one of my threads.
The whole time I was cleaning the deck I knew there had to be some kind of chemical or process to this.
I have been desperately looking for information on the whole wood restoration as well as the whole residential aspect. Unfortunately there isn't much out there since obviously nobody wants to give away their secret of success.
You on the other hand have my out most respect for your point of view and professionalism. Of course we want to properly represent our industry, and jealousy/selfishness will definitely not help the cause.
I will take your advice in the matter and start looking for a chemical/soap to do the right job. I'll keep doing freebies for friends and family until I get it right, and then hopefully make some money.
Meaning?????????????
Is it that bad?
Or are you overwhelmed as I am with all the info Rod Provided?
I'm sorry - but yes, it was bad. My husband's company is in North Carolina and we, like Beth & Rod, tend to specialize in wood. It's just scary to see sometimes what the "competition" is. Glad you're here to learn properly. It helps us all in the long run.
Also - Roger has trained quite a few contractors on wood care. Please don't hesitate to call him. 336-516-6139

I was so honored that Dave came all the way to North Carolina for my round table. Such a wonderful, kind man and so very knowledgeable. He will be truly be missed.

Wow! Nice work. A maintained fence can easily last up to three times longer than one allowed to be cared for by mother nature.Still need to work on that signature a little please.

.......offering my labor in exchange for learning at a company. That being said, has anybody here allowed someone to learn from their company who was not a part of it? If so, were they local or did you prefer someone who would not ultimately compete in the same market as you once they were on their own? I ask because at this point I can offer my services here locally or from the town I lived in (9 hour car ride, probably 7 if my wife drives) where I live or offer in the town where I just moved from and have a place to stay with friends for free. Would you consider it tackyor be receptive if a local person asked for an agreement like this?Once again thanks for the responses and good luck in your business.
We have had many come work here in NC - from as far away as Michigan and as close as our immediate area. With that said, we may be more the exception than the rule on training someone right next door.
At any rate, feel free to call Roger (336-516-6139 Carolina ProWash) and talk with him about what may be happening this spring that might interest you. For travel purposes, zip is 27253.

Keenan - I personally wouldn't attending an event if you haven't decided exactly what you want to do. The information you will gain from just talking to those already established in what they are doing can have a tremendous bearing on what you may choose to direct your energies toward.
You should also first research YOUR market. NC, TX and AZ all have vastly different circumstances than TN, particularly since you are considering the residential sector.
Education is key - look at courses but also put feelers out for companies that offer labor for learning if you have an initial start up budget that may not allow for "formal" educational expenditures.
As far as equipment, both Bob and Russ are excellent sources. You may also want to look at ACR Products and SunBrite Supply (both of whom are vendors on this site). Any of these will take good care of you in my opinion. We have had nothing but good experiences with all.
Need Votes please!
