LOL - there is no such place that is "free of humidity" in North Carolina, hence, short shelf life! :D

Pretty sure that stuff has a shelf life too.....

John.....weren't we talking yesterday about "over-talking" things, because you just did it again and I got lost :)
You would think that with a wife as smart as Kathy, a friend Beth - as good of a writer as she is and me as the "tough cookie" southern translator - the three of us SHOULD be able to put some coherent words down for you :D
Let me see if I can get this right from the above rambling:
1. You did a really nice thing cleaning a memorial (without permission).
2. The recipient took that gesture for what it was - a kind and generous thing to do.
3. You told her about other contractors that do that.
4. She is recognizing that and because of WHO she is, others are taking notice of this industry's actions.
5. Because of these new people taking notice, other contractors are now coming forward with good deeds.
6. Because people are now noticing all the good deeds, our industry is going to be recognized as good people and will likely see a return on their kindnesses.
7. Somebody has ultimately decided you are aren't just a good egg, you're a super egg and better things are happening for you because you paid so much forward for others in our industry.
Kinda like that?

Nice article in Cleaner Times John :)

I've been told by Jim Grady a past president of the IWCA that they looked into grants and it couldn't be done or darn near impossible. Today it's just a thought. As for grants Free government grants are funded in one of two ways: the money comes from the taxes we pay and also from private foundations that must give five percent of their assets to stay tax-exempt.
So where they come from it looks like there are no other choices... It's getting them is the problem.
You'd think with all of the brains running around pressure washing that somebody would learn to write successful grants - those folks are like weathermen (get paid whether it comes through or not). It is difficult and tedious - lots of hoops to jump through but it's kind of like dominos....once you get one, they get easier after that.

I would make sure that the grant money does not come from tax payers. Private grants would be OK.William - please add a proper signature - it's still a house rule here.
Thanks!

PS - Landed that lead - thank you!!!!!

You too John :) I'm glad you were heading out for some relaxation.....you sound very stressed! If there is anything we can do to help, let me know.

Then there is the whole "look what industry" you're dealing with factor. People will question how the selection committee is chosen and what their qualifications are to pick a candidate or winner.
I love where your heart is John but you need to get it off of your sleeve and back nearer to your head where it's safer :)

I'm going to try really hard NOT to be a wet pissy blanket here John..........
Besides the Plaque recepients Linda is going to bring 250-300 postcards with a painting of Babe Ruth and her mother which she will sign and also write in a special something for anyone that attends the convention. So, in order to receive your plaque IN PERSON - you DO have to be a paying attendee to the PWNA convention? Disappointed but not surprised at that bunch.
I really hope all the recepients can put aside there thoughts on orgs and groups and they attend to just meet and greet her. She's one of us that is so down to earth but the stress she deals with has been astronomical which has caused her so many personal problems but she never stops and when you hear more about her you will see why and you will feel her pain and also see her light up the room with her spirit.
You say they are providing a place for her to do this, yet we don't get the option of seeing because we aren't PWNA members and have no desire to be at the convention. The PWNA is ruining this for a lot of recipients John.
I will contact all on the list soon to seem if there coming or should I send them there's free of charge. Also one person sadly to say has said he does not want his plaque. Then JUST LEAVE IT ALONE. I have it in writing and I called him a couple of times and had others talk to him and I texted him numerous times times to call me with zero apologies and can call me any name in the book but just tell me he wants it..and he steadfastly refuses. GET the HINT John - some fences can't be mended. Linda even said she would call him but I told her no because no one is going to be begged to take this... So we moved on. I tried but the answer remained no... And his tremendous loss.. And we moved on. And yet you continue to go on and on about it. Could you please be as concerned about OTHERS on the recipient list who WANT to accept theirs, WANT to be there but because of the venue and cost associated - CAN'T?????
Need coffee now.

Check ebay and craigslist. Deals on there every day that don't include a commission for the shop selling for somebody else. Pretty sure he'll still take you as a customer for maintenance & repairs later :)

We have found that the 1500 is "weird" to apply after becoming accustomed to the thinner stains - you can get lap marks if brushing because it takes longer to penetrate. Our test subject is taking abuse from my chickens - after 7 months - the vertical posts, which on the coop take more direct sunlight than the horizontals are showing a slight lightening - noticeably at the knots. If someone was to have a well shaded deck - this would appear to do well as we have been MORE than soggy this year and I see ZERO signs of black spots :)

Anybody look to see that the original question was from 2004
Also, Russell - please do a search for DISTRIBUTOR rules on this forum. We have paying advertisers and you're stepping on toes.
-
Russell - are you an advertising distributor on this board now? If not, you should check with Beth about soliciting outside of the allowed threads.
-
And if you can find my "respectful" threads on AC - Charlie is 20 miles from us. We're under the same rainclouds we're so close. We get polar opposite results with the stain and have never even had failed product replaced or offered to be replaced. The public outcry and bashing hurt OUR company, period. We have never had the issues anyone else did with ESI products but heaven forbid we post good results of our established work with "that" stain. I'm just sayin'.
NOW, BETH said back to the topic. Hope no public people can see this and start it all over again.
-
But it still doesn't excuse the publicity and the ramifications on innocent parties ---
-
Daniel,I think you are missing the point, or at least my point. No one is denying that you, Diamond Jim, and others may be having mildew problems with some applications of AC stain. But the evidence suggests that this may be in part due to geographic region and climate.
I am not far from Diamond Jim. We did a job two years ago together and the drive was about 1.5 hrs. away for each of us. I've applied AC stain on 4 jobs, the first 3 about 3 yrs. ago, and have not seen any finish issues. I am in NJ, not Conn. or Mass.
Back in 2009 in another thread, Alan Broom of Shine Brite in Georgia posted the following: From what I understand, Alan was one of the first East coast wood contractors to use AC stain.
I met Alan nearly 2 yrs. ago at the ***** convention in Orlando. He is no "backwards dummy" but a well educated, intelligent man who comes from a family that owned a sawmill and lumber yard. His restoration business has been using AC stains since ~ 2006 and continues to use the stain today. If he had serious issues with the product, I can guarantee he would drop it in a heartbeat.
AC stain has been around for probably 20 yrs. or more on the West coast. Jake Clark purchased the company many years ago from a Mr. Armstrong, and has been distributing/retailing stain primarily in California and the Pacific Northwest. I know that Sherwin Williams stores in that area have been carrying the line for many years. If there was a quality issue with the product, do you think these retailers would continue to offer it to their customers?
What really set me off Daniel was your following post on this thread. - Charlie of Apex Deck Savers in NC is obviously one of the more accomplished wood restoration contractors on The Grime Scene. Do you think Charlie, who has been using AC stains for maybe 3 years now would continue if he had any serious problems with quality or performance?
The Woodtux drying debacle deserved public airing as it was obvious that this was a serious product flaw experienced nationwide. Unless other contractors from around the country weigh in on AC mildew issues, there is no evidence that it is an overall quality - mildewcide product problem.
The public reads these boards. I personally get a decent amount of new business from customers that have read my postings here. Other wood restoration contractors from around the US and world reads these boards. Distributors, manufacturers, painters and others reads these boards.
Be responsible and aware of the impact before publicly "bashing" a product.
Wow, considering that we WERE professionally injured by the attack on WT - and we have very respectfully & publicly spoken of our issues with AC Clark - I guess you still have to be in that "other" group to have an opinion count or be protected.
-
Thanks Dan, but I'll stick with the Armstrong Clark like we've been using on 200+ decks in the past 3 years. You did one deck with TWP and now you're already on the sales team...seems fishy.Nah...he just knows we can still get the "good stuff" here :)

Niiice job Young One :)

What she said........that was NOT what I was expecting LOL :)
Otherwise beautiful view!

The toners have zero longevity. We got nine months on a stripped cedar sided house before mildew started and the bleach wash removed anything remaining. Just love those total redo's that send you upside down in a job :(
-
Adding to Robert's bullet point #2.......BMP's are NOT law. That being said, it is the contractors responsibility to "keep up with them" as they can be changed at any given time with no notification being required.

Who is up for meeting up in Nashville that ISN'T going to the convention but realizes the opportunity for a super fun, impromptu meet up at the location?
