  1. Wow I think you guys are dramatizing some. I mean really, how did all the folks in the neighborhoods get moved in? Thet didn't use pick up trucks. A crew cab truck and a 18' trailer is only 38' long. What is the big deal? You are not going to be parking at a customers house for the rest of your life. I feel the heat coming! LOL!
  2. Hand Cart Sprayers

Inflatable tires are designed to carry much more weight. They will also make a cart much easier to push.
  3. Marine vs Regular battery for ShurFlo

IMHO a marine battery would be over kill just for a Shurflo. In addition you will have to deal with the added extra weight of a large marine battery. Heck some old boys just use the small 12 volt garden tractor batteries.
  4. GPM question

My experiance with HONDA engines has been just the opposite. I also own three machines. One is a GSX 340 11 hp engine that is seven years old and has hundreds of hours on it. Very few problems over the years. Machine vibration can come from a lot of things including to much air in the tires, over clocking the engine, over torquing the motor mounts, or just a bad frame design. IMHOP HONDA makes the best small engines. If you need parts for them though, you better have a big wallet.
  5. A dry ice machine is VERY expensive. They can easily run 75-100k for a large high volume machine. Benefits:huge reduction in down time vs conventional cleaning in a manufacturing enviroment, non-destructive cleaning, no residual clean up, no waste water ect.
  6. I guess honesty, morals and integrity are long gone these days with some folks! Craftsman is a brand Sears sells. It could have a Briggs, Tecumseh (sp) or Honda engine on it.
  7. direct drive

Keep in mind by changing the tip, he is refering to inserting one that will drop the pressure but keep the gpm a 4.0. I hope! Do not use 4000 psi on a deck or siding! A direct drive pump does not produce any lift. They are not designed to pull water. A direct drive pump requires a flooded or forced water supply. It may work with an elevated tank and a large short 1" -1 1/2" supply hose. For $200-300 more you could purchase a belt drive machine. This style of pump is designed to pull water and using a tank would never be a problem. Keep in mind a 5.0 gpm pump gives you 25% more water. More water means less work. Do Not use the red "0" nozzle on concrete or wood. Actually put it away for a year. You will likely find it has not been missed! This may be a little hard to understand at this point but, You MUST spend money to make money! Good Luck Texan!
  8. Does everybody start out as a "lowballer"?

Hey in 1997 the economy was still booming. What did Tweeter do in 03 vs Best Buy. Think people are still spending as much at Macie's these days? I admire WALMART's success in such a short time. Over all I think they appeal to the masses. Why did you leave Tweeter if things were so profitable there? Surely they were sharing the wealth.
  9. Does everybody start out as a "lowballer"?

Both business philosophies work or Walmart and Macy's wouldn't stay in business. For me it comes to a simplified plan..work smart not hard. It would appear that WALMART'S philosophy of a 28% margin works much better. They are the biggest retailer in the WORLD! The way they see it, it is better to get a little from a lot instead of a lot from a few.

WOW! I bet he could really translate some things regarding Bill Clinton!
  14. Pump oil?

DTE 26 is actually an industrial hydralic pump oil that meets ISO 68 standards. Yes the engine cranks easier because the DTE 26 oil is designed to run at lowwer temps. The 30 weight non-det. oil thickens in weather below 30F. As a result starting was very difficult. Low temperature has the molasas effect on the 30 wt. Some of the problem was related to the pump crank shaft bearing design being of the ball bearing type. An AR pump on an identical engine was not affected by the 30 wt. because the crank had roller bearings. The GP engineers kicked the problem around for two days. They personaly called me with their recommendations and I made the switch. I could have waited and ordered GP oil but they said this would work equally as well. The differance in starting amazing. I now use MOBIL DTE 26 oil in the three direct drive and one belt drive pumps.
  15. Pump oil?

I use MOBIL DTE 26/ISO 68. This was recommended to me by General Pump engineers. I was having severe starting problems with a 13 HP HONDA engine during cold weather. Would nearly rip your arm off pulling the rope. I had been using standard non-detergent oil prior to the switch. It does not perform well below 30F. Anyway made the switch per G.P.'s recommendations and you can start that Honda with ease on the coldest of mornings. Switched all my machines over to this oil. I can purchase it in bulk for $5.00 a gallon if I bring my own container. This oil really holds up well under extreme conditions.
  16. surface cleaners

Alan, Yes you are correct. To early in the morning that day . LOL!
  17. surface cleaners

I demoed an 8.0 gpm 4000 psi cold machine with a 24" 2.nozzle surface cleaner and it kicked butt. Most impressive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I could be assured of a constant source of gpm I would consider a machine like that. Each nozzle puts out 4000 psi and 4.0 gpm
  18. slow down in winter

Desi, We are in Killeen. Because the mild Texas winters we wash year round. Granted there are some 15 F mornings that we start with. We just dress a little heavier and generaly get through it. Takes more chems and maybe rinsing with hot water instead of cold. We are full time part time. We service the contracts we have and do not lookfor additional work in the winter.
  19. bad unloader?

Russ, I am only using pressure type unloaders, would your test work with them? Mine bypass 5% while in normal use!
  20. Problem With Surface Cleaner

We use to have this problem from time to time. Switched to about 95% s.s. plugs and couplers on everything and installed an inline filter at the rotary union. No more problems!
  21. Truck questions

Tony, I know about the Suburban. Had one. Great ride but mine was nickle and diming us to death once it hit 45,000 miles. They are notorious for transmission problems in the 1997-1999 models. As far as diesel noise all three manufacturers have improved in this category. Chevy initialy led the field. I beleive Dodge now has the quietest engine followed by Ford and Chevy. The Duramax has had transmission problems. Yes it has an Allison transmission but it was built to G.M. specs. The Dodge is known for the mileage but also suffers from transmission problems caused from enormous torque. Ford bought back approximatly 500 6.0 trucks since the intrduction of the new engine. I beleive (HOPE) the bugs have ben worked out. The new transmisson works great. Pulling my enclosed trailer is a breeze. The cab is much quieter than the 7.3 and the engine torque is also superior. Hey I used to be a Chevy guy! Personal preferance and need is what it is all about. I would bet by the end of 2005 we will have a factory 500 hp diesel engine coming from the C, D, or F. Can't wait!
  22. Truck questions

We were recently driving to Bryan, TX. when traffic started backing up on this rural highway. We were going about 58-60 mph in a 70 mph zone. Turns out that a guy was pulling a 37' travel trailer with a boat hitched to the trailer. His tow vehicle was the Chevy Duramax. The truck just didn't have the power to maintain speed. Hills would bring a 10 mph decline in speed. This guy refused to move to the right onto the wide shoulder for other motorist to pass. In Texas, Dodge and Ford do the work! Don't mean to p you off Morgan just stating the facts about this state. The Duramax can be purchased with comparable discounts as the Dodge and Ford. I just purchased a new 2004 Ford E.B. 4x4 Excursion with the PSD. The 6.0 engine is so much more refined than the 2000 7.3 PSD I had. Ford finaly built a transmission designed for the diesel. Tow mileage is around 12, city 15 and normal highway is mileage is 18-19. Like some others have said, know your load and the tow vehicles rated capability. Sure any truck will haul X for awhile. Electic brakes will save you money in the long run and reduce your liability. Hey is a Dodge half ton gasoline aspirited truck rated to pull 11,000 pounds???????
  23. Wiring Pump

You would only be considered stupid if you didn't learn from the mistake. We have all done something off par. Some folks might not addmit it though. Shake it off and go on.
  24. Eric, Don't forget the injector $20.00, thermal relief valve $8.00, pressure releif valve $10.00, and a incoming supply water filter $10.00. Unless you are mechanicly inclined you might be getting in over your head building a machine. You would need to look at the mfgs.torque curve for the engine you are interested in. Setting the rpm too high will reduce engine and pump life. Set the rpm to low and you won't have your gpm or psi. Pump output is rated without an unloader installed. A 4.0 gpm pump with an unloader installed will put out around 3.8 gpm. Some p.w. manufactures round up or use the pre-unloader numbers. Do you have a tachometer to set the engine rpm or a pressure gauge to set the unloader? The pump and engine would still be covered by a manufactures warranty even though you assembed the components. Repair service may be slower for you than Lowes, Home Depot ect. When you purchase a store bought unit you are paying for the engineering and design. The old saying you get what you pay for usually holds true. I just looked at a flyer that has a brand new 13 hp Honda 3000 psi 4.0 gpm belt drive for $1,170.28!!!!!!!!!!! This price does not include shipping. The unit comes with gun, nozzles, injector, 2-50 feet h.p. hoses and quick connects. Very hard price to beat!
  25. I just purchased what I hope to be a cheap remote control unit for my 110 volt burner. I am very optimistic about it working. All of my washing is in line of sight of my burner. The cost was $20.00 It is made by GE and is made for outdoor use. The range is up to 150'. An additional module is available to extend the range an additional 150'. On most occasions I would never have more than 150' of hp hose out. The maximum resistive load is 1440 watts. The maximum motor load is 1/3 HP. These specs. are well above my burners requirements The remote fob can control up to 8 devices and is powered by a small 12 volt battery. It is the size of a car remote. As soon as the rain clears I will let you all know how well it works.
