Democrat ? Republican ? Independent ?
racechaser replied to Apple Roof Cleaning's question in The Club House
Democrat or libertarian because I'm the lone republican.Or the only one brave enough to say it. Be it known I disagree with W on a lot of domestic stuff though. Too much like a democrat for me. Ronald Reagan is my hero. Scott -

Anyone used wet sand blaster kit with pressure washer?
racechaser replied to VanDiesel99's question in Having A "Blast" (sand, soda, dry ice, etc.)
I bought a blast kit from Russ and loved it. I learned by trial and error about the orientation of the draw hose. Rust Ban that Russ sells works as advertised. (I applied it with my x jet with a proportioner in it...super easy) I bought it and my trailer didn't rust for a week. Some parts that never had water contact (post blasting) like the underside of rails that were covered, never rusted after almost a month unprimed. Highly reccomend Scott -
Pete is moving. His home I assume. Nice house BTW Pete. Scott

Water flow wise, PW---->hot box inlet via a jumper hose(3ft or so)--->hot box outlet to hose reel like normal via a short jumper again. If you get a 120 volt unit you will not need battery or charger as long as you have an outlet available. Scott

John is Earthcrawl because of your aerial photography business? Scott

John I haven't advertised this spring yet because I'm trying to finish a remodel/addition on my house. Last year though it was slow "late spring and early summer" around here. That is one reason I waited to do the work on my house now, I had a feeling it was going to be slow. If you ask me it's baseball, graduation, and all the other thing going on right now and every year. I would expect some calls though in a three week period. But think about it, if your ad was working before and not now, it's probably just real slow. $3.25 a gallon for gas has everyone around here in a panic. You know the average person around here has a low disposable income, so high gas prices and saving for summer vacation is crimping most families. Everybody here is a great source for advice, but some you must take with a grain of salt, so to speak. We are one of the poorest states with a low disposable income. We also have a unique culture that many don't realize because they don't live here. I mean high school football for example, there a lot of places that totally can't believe how big a deal this is here. They leave scratching their head. They don't understand how peoples lives and plans revolve around an extracurricular activity at school. I mean if Ken Fenner says to do something, don't hesitate, do it. But if somebody says you should be blowing and going right now because everbody else is, don't panic. You are in a unique market, just keep your chin up. Scott

How Can THIS Be Good For Business ??
racechaser replied to Apple Roof Cleaning's question in The Club House
Well knew some were closed. I thought itwas the club house , job leads, marketing ideas (thank goodness)and a couple of others. I thought all the "trade" forums were open. That was what I wasn't happy about mostly. I never realized, as Don pointed out, that anyone in the log home industry was protected. I was upset because I can't understand why they are special. (I have spoken to Beth and don't believe it is anything to do with their business of being involved in log homes) That was the shocker( log homes being private). This is not an issue that I will sit and stew over. I always knew anything I wrote was going to be seen. The issue is not about keeping fellow contractors out. It is about the potential clients that read these posts, like happened to Chris a few weeks back. Scott -

How Can THIS Be Good For Business ??
racechaser replied to Apple Roof Cleaning's question in The Club House
Chris I've been preaching on my soapbox for a few months now. This is the typical problem of nobody pays attention to the preaching until it impacts their business. Then BAMM all of the sudden they are preaching also. I think there should be closed forums where only contractors can post and read. There could be others that can be read by everyone so that contractors can still find it. I have truly come to appreciate that "silly" signature rule. Bob has no such rule and you could be educating your biggest competitor about your marketing techniques. I have not made a reply to anyone on this or other boards if they don't have a sig line lately. I'm a big proponent for some closed areas in this forum. I don't see the harm in it. I was thrilled when the "site supporter only" section came, only to go several hours later after complaints from what I assume were "non site supporters". I have no misconceptions about this being Beth and Rod's board. I wish them luck and continued success. But as for me, I'm leary to share anymore. I'm not worried about people near me. I will reach out and help anyone as long as they have ethical business practices. But educating lowballers and home owners. I'm out!! Until there is a secure place to talk, I'm in pause mode. Scott -
What happens when scaffolding costs more than life insurance
racechaser replied to RyanH's topic in Window & Gutter Cleaning
Plus the guy on the left has two lanyards tied together. You must keep your fall less than 6 feet. He has 12 feet in lanyards alone plus the "swing" factor. They should have separate lifelines and the rope grab should be at least equal to his shoulder height in case of fall. just a couple more observations Scott -
I've been wanting to ask this and keep forgetting. We have a lot of high end commercial and residential properties with copper gutters and awnings. Is there something available commercially to restore the copper on these buildings? Do any of ya'll do that ? I mean I know there is that stuff you can buy at drug stores they show on TV.You know, dip the penney in and it comes out clean. But that could get rather expensive doing a whole gutter system or awning.Have ya'll used that before on copper fixtures??? Just curious because I've never seen anything that I can recall. Thanks Scott

WARNING....Has this happened to you too?
racechaser replied to Christopher's question in The Club House
I do feel for you. I've had concerns with the same thing for a while now. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/club-house/10311-organizations-bulletin-boards.html I stated those same concerns in post #11 and on. You just got beat up on price, which would have been defensible had you ever realized ALL of this is public. Just register as ABC Pressure washing and wait for your password to come. Imagine if you had looked at a job, and then came here for advice from others. The client sees your post and now you have ZERO credibility with them because you had to ask for help because you had never encountered that before. I tried to have this conversation with Rick Petry in the above thread and I don't think he ever grasped what I was saying. I see you now do unfortunately. Just try and imagine EVERY possible scenario you would ever encounter on a job. I bet if it happened again tomorrow you'd have a better answer for the client. And just remember Jason and "the jerk" from Bob's. There was a person who had all the equipment but no experience and he laughed when Jason said he could clean it. You never really said what the job was for, but you can justify yourself like I said before. My only advice would be be prepared next time. So you knocked a hundred bucks off, big deal. If she had a friend recomend someone else who was $100.00 cheaper and asked you to match it you would have I'm sure. Go get them next time!!! Scott -
WARNING....Has this happened to you too?
racechaser replied to Christopher's question in The Club House
You have licenses, insurance, equipment cost and chemical costs. Not to mention gas to do the job, advertisements, and all related costs like phone, truck, gas to get to jobs, time involved in giving estimates, and accounting costs and taxes. You know what you're expenses are and she doesn't. You have traveled all over the country training and learning. That's not even counting all the hours surfing these BBS's to learn new tricks. I have a workshop with over $3000.00 worth of chems in it, as I'm sure you do to. You need not feel ashamed at your prices. Remember PROFIT is not a dirty word. Scott -
Hey John I see you edited your post. If It was directed at me I apologize. I wasn't trying to make you mad if I did. It sounded like you knew him. Scott
-
Did you try posting at his board or even try to call him?? Scott
-
Rick I think you misunderstand the homeowner aspect. My concern is that someone says yes they have the chems to get that stain off or they can order them, then comes on here and asks for advice. If the homeowner finds them asking that question on this site, that may leave the homeowner with apprehension and distrust.Someone who was "newer to the site" brought this up a few months ago. Scott
-
Who exactly was that because I was so totally PUMPED about it I couldn't wait. I understand the people who weren't site supporters may not have want to have been left out, but that's their choice. There was a solution for those people, CONTRIBUTE and be a part of the closed section. I also think there should be a private section that is password protected. A place where you KNOW FOR A FACT verified members only can post or read about gripes, or even questions about things that the consumer should never be able to see. Like someone else said once, how does he look if he's asking questions about an upcoming job and the homeowner is reading the posts also. Or when people actually say they used 35.00 worth of mix on a $350.00 roof job. Or the fact that we openly say we need $75.00 to make it worthwhile, when "some" people might say that a plumber only makes 50 or 60 dollars an hour. I know everyone is going to say that these posts being able to come up in a google search is good, I slightly disagree. Homeowners should not be able to read as much as they can and maybe other contractors should be invited here to keep the lowballers and hacks out. Just my opinion Scott

Degrading the termite barrier by using bleach ?

I assumed this was in the roofing section. Sorry, but I think bleach runoff in a housewash is even less of an issue. Scott -
Degrading the termite barrier by using bleach ?
racechaser replied to itswillist's question in Residential Pressure Washing
That's been touched upon before. I don't buy into it myself. Even if I didn't have a monetary interest in the debate. Let's say you use 50-65 gallons of mix on a house. You are using 20-30 gallons of NAOCL and 20 to 30 gallons of water. The assay now is down from 12% to 6% generally. You are spreading that over 2500 square feet of area. Most of it is drying on the roof and you are rewetting it. The bleach is reacting with the algae causing it to die. Now that it is dead, most people rinse the roof when they finish. You are now diluting the concentration again and VERY, VERY DRAMATICALLY. Now keep in mind the 1-2% bleach that is hitting the ground is being equally divided (except for the roof valleys) over let's say 200 linear feet of house. Not to mention that the bleach would have to end up in that exact spot that the termite company dug the 8-12 inch wide trench where the poured in the treatment. The fact is the bleach will stay in the ground at the drip line and not permeate out three feet to the barrier. Even if it did, how much, can that much bleach (for a short time) affect the barrier?? Constant exposure...yes, one and a half hours...I don't think so in my opinion alone. What about Uric acid??? Does a dog peeing on it affect it?? That is my unscientific opinion based on common sense and not facts. Scott -
Buy it from Sunbrite supply in Atlanta and pay shipping via truck freight would be one option.Call tracy Handl. He can help you out. Scott

Hot water unit question.
racechaser replied to peejicky's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I have that same unit only mine is 120 volt AC. Mine works great but I can't testify to the 12 volt model. I personally don't believe the whole "it runs on battery" claim. I think you will need a "real" battery charger hooked to up to run it. FWIW if it was in my backyard I'd buy it as a backup if it was cheap. Scott
