  1. Pump Rebuilds

Do it yourself, let the repair companies make money off of the homeowners. That is if it is within your capabilities. Packing is pretty straightforward.
  2. Thhe exhaust rusts in the rain but other than that no problems. Until it breaks down or you are changing someething around and you are fixing it it the rain. In the NW it rains often so I have not had any real problems associated with it.
  3. Ratios

You might try the laymans way as well. Take a container that has marks on it of known quantities, insert M5. Run your machine into a measurable but larger container and figure out how much liquid you had in the end container and how much you drew out of the other container with your xjet. Divide the numbers and you have a ratio. You can see some variance depending on the viscosity of your liquid.
  4. Hotsy?

The price quoted is not bad for a Hotsy. My local guy quoted me $6500 for the same thing( he honestly could not believe I didn't buy it). I agree with squirtgun that you most likely will need bigger and that can be had for about the same $$ as the smaller Hotsy.
  5. Yep sounds like you have them covered. The only other thing I can think of is to go to a box truck. The con is it is more $$ upfront. Other than that I would run the 30 float with my 275, and use ball valves to switch between the 2 needed.
  6. Hotsy?

Haggle, haggle , haggle. They are good machines just overpriced. They also make their own pumps now which could be a concern should you need to get parts in hurry and at a fair price.
  7. Google earth

Have you tried the Microsoft terra server? http://terraserver-usa.com/
  8. Disturbing email from (?) PayPal

I get them all the time as well. I also get them from "ebay" too. The ebay ones tell me congratualtions you are eligible to become a powere seller, and things like that. They make it seem like they are doing you a favor. What amazes me is the way they look just like the actual real website. Most of the links they place on there are links for the real site as well. It is done that way to maintain your confidence.
  9. Fast Pour Gas Cans

Check garage sales and auctions. That is where I have been getting the old vented cans. You can get the racing style online at http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay ?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=10311&parentCategory Id=10267&langId=-1, or at a motorcylce shop. My understanding is that only California required the non-vent cans for their air pollution requirements. Unfortunately it is easier for manufacturing to just make one style can.
  10. Shurflo or Xjet?

I think both have their advantages/disadvantages. I do believe that if you use a shurflo, you should have a second pump available to swap with. I did not and ended up x-jetting to finish the job. Either way always have a spare to pull the job through.
  11. Is this possible??

The problem I see is not enough GVWR. It will only allow you to put an additional #1800 on it. A skid is #750 empty, a small 100 gallon tank full would be over #850 and you are already over your GVWR without chems etc.. Go with a #7000 GVWR tandem and you will have less worry.
  12. I am not very good at searching old posts, so I thought I would ask any of you if you are members? Do you feel it is worth it as well? Do you think you have gotten a job because of it? Thanks, Larry
  13. Better Business Bureau

Thanks for everyones input. I think I will go with something more local like the home builders, chamber or both.
  14. Better Business Bureau

It has advantages if a potential customer uses the BBB to screen businesses, but I am not sure if any of them really do or not. You can have your your name come up in a search of BBB members and then a link to your webiste will be included in the results. That part I am sure would help. $500 is not huge money but it is more than the cost to join most groups/orgs.
  15. Better Business Bureau

You do have to be asked and meet the basic requirements for your industry. You also can't have any complaints against you. I am trying to figure out if it is a good investment for $514.00
  16. Better Business Bureau

I hadn't thought about attending meetings and networking that way. I can see that having some potential.
  17. a good hot water skid

smaller tips= higher psi, not lower gpm. Lower gpm by throttling the machine down Granted you can see a small increase in gpm when the psi is lowered but not much, there is only so much water a positive displacement pump can physically move.
  18. insurance

Yes, but their customer service lacks quite a bit. I asked for info and a copy of my policy and it took over a month to get it.
  19. a good hot water skid

I am currently looking at a M-T-M (mighty M). It has a 25.hp Kohler, 5.6 gpm, 3600psi General, w/2500 watt generator. I got them down to $5035.00 for it. Water cannon (http://www.hotsuperskid.com/default.aspx ) has a decent looking skid for $4199.00 as well. I also saw this listed on ebay. The guy originally had a buy it now of $3000.00 but that is gone now that the bidding started. You might contact him and offer some money to end it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4437134178&ss PageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
  20. I have the chance to purchase a new skid for a reasonable amount. It has a 25hp Kohler, 2500 watt generator and 5.6 gpm general pump. Has anyone had a MIT M unit before?n If so how is the reliability?
  21. M-I-T M skid question

It is overkill a little. It is a 3600 psi but the generator will eat some h.p too. It seems that they set their machines to run at around 80% of peak.
  22. Bleach use

Part of how you use it will depend on the strength of the bleach and what you are trying to clean. Store bought is 5-6%. If you use a downstreamer at the pump it will dilute to araound 25:1 depending on your injector. An x-jet can giv you as much as 2:1 flow rate. With a pump up (unmixed)you are getting a true 5%-6% percent on the surface and you will get faster results. Not all surfaces require it to be at the highest strength, like your fence. If you put 1/8 of a cup of dish soap in with your mix it will foam a little and stick better as well.
  23. The opposite is true. Diesels need less maintenace but the maintenance that you do costs more money, so it is a tossup on that end. They will on average last longer than a gas engine. (400,000 miles is not at all unreal) They are more suitable too heavy work. Mileage versus gas when they are working hard is better with a diesel. The smell of the exhaust becomes sweeter over time. They are worth every extra penny!
  24. Biodiesel

I have thought about warming it up. Right now I just use a 20% mix and it keeps it simple. Here are some links to forums and website. The link for the book is a good one. There are a lot of bogus books out there but this one is full of info and is considered the best one out there. http://www.localb100.com/book.html good forum:http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/groupee http://www.kitchen-biodiesel.com/
  25. Biodiesel

Yes I do. It is relatively simple. I use an "appleseed" processor and have no real problems. I would liek to get my hands on more oil but with all of the enviromental greenies around, everybody is making bio so it is harder to come by. I can point you in the right direction if you are interested.
