That makes perfect sense. The drums of 50% I buy weigh 700#'s so that is how I figured the combined weight at 12.7#'s / gallon. I appreciate the help from you guys. Thanks again Larry

Thanks, that is kind of the angle I was shooting for. Had to figure it for a 55 drum first as my recipe uses gallons of 50% to make the soap. I hate to make errors with this stuff because when I do I have a drum full of crap that doesn't clen well. Fortunately?, I still wash trucks and can use it up myself so my customers always get the good stuff. That is another reason I am questioning my numbers. By my calculations, assuming 50% is 12#/gal. It will take 50# of 99.9% to make one drum of my soap. Yes it is pretty strong.

Thanks for the tips. I use this stuff fairly regularly as well as some even more potent stuff. I would not dream of using any of this without the proper PPE. I was doubting my numbers because I pay $0.11/ pound for 50% in a 700# drum and I paid $.19/pound for 99.9%. I just figured I was saving more $$ than it seems.

It is hot but my soap formula requires it. I got a good deal on beads so want to use them up.

Ryan you have made some excellent and well thought out points and you are also the epitomy of the "right person" too carry. Concealed carry wherever you are is not a bad thing. Many times things just happen. Myself and three friends were fishing on a river. We were approached by three obnoxious guys. They blocked our escape route, aside from jumping in the river, they continued to make threats, harrass and taunt us. Finally one of our group told them to get out of the way and let us leave. The next thing we know is they all have knifes out and are trying to stab one guy. In the confusion one of our group was able to get away. He knew just what to do. I DID NOT have my concealed permit at that time and had chosen to leave the only gun in the car, a nearly fatal mistake for one of us. We ran toward the car with the thugs on our foot steps. I met my friend, grabbed the gun and wheeled around This stopped them in their tracks. NO shots were fired and they chose to quietly walk the other direction. Law enforcement would have been useless in this case unless he happened to be very close by. If there had been an officer near the thugs might have never acted that way to begin with. We did not provoke this, we were not in a bad area. There was no other way to handle it. I fully believe somebody would have been severely hurt in this case.

See if there are any indoor shooting ranges you can go to. Some of them rent guns. This is a great way to get a feel for what you want and can handle. One thing about guns is you usually get what you pay for. The cheaper imitations have flaws that cause reliabilty issues and they are not as fun to shoot either. Look at ammo affordability also. For just in case ammo it is hard to beat 9mm. Still used by the military and very easy to come by. I also consider 9mm to be the smallest of the reliable manstoppers.

Many people use the dodge/ford 3/4 ton pickups.( some even use the chevy) It pulls a trailer nicely and can haul things in the back as well. With the 3/4 tons you also have the benefit of diesel fuel and power as well. Figure out what the absolute maximum weight you plan on carrying will be, then add another 500-1000 lbs. Don't forget to include all of the little things like extra hoses, chems, generator etc..You want room to grow without buying another rig right away. It is kind of hard to tell you exactly what to look at, as it you guys have different model names over there than we do.

Can purified water damage pwers?
Larry B replied to Richard Ivy's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Is purified the same as deionized? There are a lot of people that use DI water to clean cars at car lots. Leaves a spot free rinse without towelling the cars off. If they are the same, then no as some of these guys have deionizing units on their trucks. -
quality of work
Larry B replied to JFife's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Not too highjack this but that is how I do trucks. Most take option "A" ( the cheapest) wich is fine because it is a lot faster and I can actually do more units/hour and make more $$. -
You can get those tall cans at MX (motocross $ motorcylce shops) as well, might save on shipping $$>

I seem to remember some using the old style pepsi/coke syrup containers. They already have fittings on them and everything. I would think 100 psi would be enough to empty most containers.

A donation is cheaper than a divorce for clicking on the dating ads. "No honey I still love you. I am just helping pay for the BBS really." Made my donation today. It is worth every penny.

So the ads on here imply mike is single or needs to move? Just kidding, good idea.

Pressure Washing Hose
Larry B replied to Adco Cleaning Service's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I use Goodyear "neptune" 1 wire 4000 psi. IMHO the Goodyears are possibly the best. They make a "rawhide" as well, higher psi and different cover but not sure if it lasts longer. -
Just finished testing 11 different chemical injectors-downstream
Larry B replied to 5282jt's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
max psi X gpm ( 5.6)= then divide by 1100 this gives you the hp needed to run pump at max. example 3500psi X 5.6 gpm= 19600 divided by 1100= 17.81 h.p. -
Nope get the 7.3 with the forged rods

Closing Rate
Larry B replied to Russell Cissell's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
When I get the call, my closing rate is pretty high. On cold calls or prospecting, it is very low. -
Up until July of this year you had to have a license in Oregon. It made no difference that I could tell. The ilegal/illegitimate companies just didn't put their name on the side of their trucks and ran no ads. There was always the threat of a $5,000 fine for operating w/out the license but never heard of anybody getting one. A customer would have to be educated enough to know that the PW'er was required to have one and then know who to complain too.

Insurance; Which types do you carry & why?
Larry B replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
I carry garage keepers ins as well. Keeps my clients rigs covered while I move them. -
At least with the hosting I have used, you get a discount up front to register with an agreement to stay with them for a period of time, usually between 2-6 months. After that you can transfer the name, for a fee, to the new hosting company.

Or you could do as I suggested on the other board a week ago. Read the posts and find what are the appropriate chems for the job. Many things require a different procedure, there is no " one does it all" chem. You may need different chems to clean the same surface, depending on what type of dirt you are cleaning on it.

I deal with a lot of rain on the West Coast. I have tried a brand called Ruff Duck. It is a nylon coated (on the inside) type instead of pvc. Very lightweight and comfortable. It was $100 at http://www.work-n-wear.com/for the set. The vinyl type has held up very well compared to a pvc.

Better yet take a look around at advertising campaigns and holiday tree lightings. they are slowly but surely eliminating CHRISTmas. Target is one of the larger offenders.

Pressure washer water temp
Larry B replied to grizzley's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I learned this the hard way as well. Many years ago I washed the trucks at a meat packing plant. They had real nice free hot water so I filled my tank with it, after a few weeks the pumps started to fail.
