  1. Change company name ?

If you don't have seperate policies you may not be covered because you are doing work beyond what is considered pressure washing.
  2. Deck Mania

Scott is a pro and I am sure he meant those other products as well. That is why I put their last sentence in my post.
  3. Breakdown Gotcha Down?

Nothing like $200,000+ car that leaves you stranded. Now if he can find somebody willing and qualified to work on it.
  4. Deck Mania

Wood Tux, not tuf, RS and cabots are bad? Avoid anything that gaurantees a "long lasting" finish those are the bad ones. Many people on here use the Wood Tux and ready seal. Search it and look at the pics, you will see how good it looks.
  5. Box Truck versus Trailer

You can letter the pull truck as well as the trailer. I use my pull truck quite often for bid, running for supplies etc..this is a great way to get noticed as well. Drivng a box truck around for errands is slightly impractical. The pint Sopower made about usning another rig when the pull truck is down is a very good one. Even if the truck is in the shop for maintenance or whatever you still can grab the trailer and go to work.
  6. gotta cool car??

The car is undergoing a frame off right now. I have 90% of parts to put it back together now I just need the time to finish. Honstly, I like the grill of the of the 66 better, but I was born in 67 so that is what I chose. A crate 502 w/500+ h.p. would be incredibly nice but a 427 was the dream in high school. On a side note, does anybody know how to make a flip nose? Everybody I talked to says that is too "old school" and their is no kit available.
  7. gotta cool car??

I currently have 2 projects going, one is not enough of a $$ pit. I have a 67 chevelle that is my first love. It has a bored .60 over 327 and lots of goodies. The second is a manx buggy, one of those fiberglass VW buggies from the 70's. It will be fun to cruise this spring but it will be sold to finance the finishing touches on the chevelle. Hopefully I will find a 427 to put in the chevelle with the buggy money.
  8. Home made ladder racks

Looks good. I was thinking of doing the same thing. Now if I only knew how to actually use my welder.
  9. Are you looking for water supply reels? If so I found one at Lowes for $80 it is all aluminum and holds about 200' fo 5/8's hose if you put it on carefully. It works fairly well but has no feed guide on it so you have to use your hand.
  10. Another storm

Yea but somehow they liked "gert"?
  11. Starting New Company

While you may not think you nedd inusrance, you need to look at the big picture. What happens if somebody trips over one of your hoses? Maybe they have a good attorney and they can prove they are disabled for life? How much is that $1000 a year insurance worth at that time? There are many more possibilties and scenarios where you would need inusrance. The main thing is to do it right from the beggining and set yourslef up as being a legitiamte business owner. Get the insurance even if it is not required in your state.
  12. Gum Busters

I saw this in action on the discovery channel on the "Dirty Jobs" show. There is a company in NY that uses these and does it all day long. Looked very interesting and unobtrusive.
  13. Outside Sales

I think some people could use a commissioned salesman(person). I can see the benefit for me as I am not the best at cold call sales.
  14. Just getting started

Take the time to look at karchers hose fittings etc... You have a gun go bad, hose or whatever and it has to be replaced with the same thing. Look on the web for pressure washing supplies and compare prices of parts. You may want quick connects on everything at some point and you would have to replumb the karcher machines to accept them. (if they make the adapters for the metric thread to standard) Many karchers last a while it, is just the availability and extra steps needed to change the configuration that make it not the first choice for most people in this business.
  15. Just getting started

A Cat pump is better with a General being among the better ones. The big dowside to karcher is the lack of people to serivce them, parts are expensive and thier hoses and fitting are unique to themselves. ( unless you replumb everything) It all adds up to more money without being necessary.
  16. Just getting started

Can't recommend a karcher at all. Buy equipment from a reputaable dealer and research and practice on everybody you can find before doing a job.
  17. Paid with Ding Dongs

I also remember them in my luchbox wrapped in foil. They also used to be about the size of a hockey puck, now they are about half of that.
  18. Need some advice

Looks like fun. Are you doing the roof as well? From the looks of it you could use a scissor lift but an articulating boom will give you more reach over bushes and where the different roofs meet. Be careful with the awnings, I have found it extremely difficult to get a good enough seal on the building to keep the cleaning solution from running under the tarp. If there is room between the building and tarp you can put the tarp down between them.
  19. pin lock brush

You coudl try the paint stores. They have aluminum pin lock poles, although I am not sure of max lengths.
  20. The Gas Crunch

Theres nothing wrong woth doing a DBA. I partnered with somebody on another business for that very reason. He paints extremely well, I use my CCB#, get new insurance and I do the repairs. This has provided me with some income during off times. I can make more $ PWing because I am better at it but I don't dislike doing other things also.
  21. WVO Biodiesel

Kettle foods does this here in town with their chip oil. They are currently contstructing a public bio-diesel facility in the Portland area as well.
  22. New Truck

Only $200/month? Diesel is $2.85 a gallon here and I burn 30-40 gallons a week.
  23. 2 gun powerwashers.

The 2 gun setups I have seen simply have another hose attached to the pump head. One on each HP outlet.
  24. Which pump is better???

Not sure of the specs on the Comet pump, but I like General for the easy to find parts and have had decent luck with them. Still prefer Cat though.
  25. Honda 13hp

Thats a great engine and a fantastic pump. My cat pumps have outlasted many others and the Honda GX is very reliable.
