  1. Winterizing the Deckster

I use airless pumps and use mineral spirits or xylene. You should probably use mineral spirits because the xylene might be too strong of a solvent. You should have no problem. Mineral spirits or paint thinner never freezes. Dan
  2. I have a 5 ton International truck with 24 ft enclosed insulated box. 2 units with 18hp honda's 4000psi / 4gpm's and a 38HP diesel Lombardini w/ 6.6gpm / 5800 psi. Probably close to 2000 ft of hose with us all the time and has an 1100 gallon steel tank (home made) epoxy lined. Also has a independant boiler so if you want hot water just plug to it. Sweet setup and works well. But will probably get rid of the truck and put everything in a trailer. Looking right now for an Exiss trailer, 36 ft fifth wheel, triple axle with ramp door. I usually work within a 300 mile radius from home so I get better fuel mileage with my pickup than the 5 ton. Also looking for another F350 for towing the 34 ft flatbed when hauling manlifts or my other enclosed trailer. Dan
  3. Heavy Equipment Washing

I see the link I put in does not work, let me try this again http://cmms.cat.com/cmms/servlet/cat.dcs.cmms.servlet.DynamicImageServlet?imageid=C070826&imageType=2
  4. vinyl siding institute

That's a nice site and all but one big problem we have around here are spiders and the black crap (dots and smudges) they leave behind. The only thing I found that can remove it without damaging vinyl siding is bleach. I can dilute but very little and have to scrub the dickens out of it to get it off and even there I can't get everything off. Has anyone run into this problem before and what have you used. Dan

  6. I have still have my first and only back pack blower which is 16 yrs old this year. Never touched the engine, did have the carb redone about 5 years ago and had to change the fuel filter this year. Its a Echo PB 4600, I think I got my money worth out of it, but just in case I bought another one exactly the same on Ebay two years ago for 30 bucks, works and everything, but don't use it till this one bites the dust. My vote is for Echo. Dan
  7. Heavy Equipment Washing

Jimmy is right on the money with what the clients usually want, you get the odd guy once in a while that wants it so clean that you'd think its out of the showroom but that's OK, you charge by the hour. I make good money this way. All my equipment washing is by the hour cause you never know how hard the equipment is going to be to clean. You may have one piece that can take you 2 hours one week and 5 hours the next because its so filthy. Just get ready to get dirty. We washed a baby like this one www.cat.com/cda/layout?m=37840&x=7&location=drop this summer. It came to the job site on seven flatbeds. It was 5 years old and never washed. It took us 3 days to wash and we could have used an extra day but we didn't have time. Just under the boom where it connects to the platform we removed about 2 drums of grease (no kidding) by shovel. This thing was huge, the top of the tracks was the height of the top of the cabin of a Cat D9 parked beside it. It was an impressive job site. Dan
  8. This friend of mine has one of those Softub portable hot tubs, it has a vinyl liner. There is an accumulation of chlorine and hard water deposit on the vinyl itself so it went from blue to almost a white. If you rub it hard enough it will go back to blue but I am scared to damage the liner. Is there any cleaners that could dissolve the deposits without damaging the vinyl. Thanks, Dan
  9. Chlorine stain removal

Thanks Jimmy, I'll try the pool store. Never occured to me that they might have that. Dan
  10. Chlorine stain removal

Thanks, just tried it and it doesn't tickle it. Am wondering about CLR or a product like it? Dan
  11. 12 Volt Pumps

just use gravity. I have a 3 inch pipe to feed three pumps from a 1200 gallons tank and have plenty of water, the pumps never starve Dan

  13. I don't think so. It would be worth the trip to compare. They are not built the same way at all. I was amazed at the quality the Exiss was made. Comparing the Haulmark with the Exiss is like comparing a Cadilllac to a Chevy Cavalier. I know this is the trailer I will be getting the next time I will be shopping for one. Depends on what you are looking for. Dan
  14. If you really want a quality trailer Exiss trailer is the way to go. They specialize in livestock trailers but they can build anything you want. I will say I had a Haulmark (stolen last fall) and now have a Cargo Mate. The Haulmark wasn't so bad quality wise but towed awful, the Cargo Mate does tow like a dream but its so cheap its unreal. I have a car hauler and even the cross members are only made of bent sheet metal ( to give strenght) spaced every two feet, had to rip the whole floor out and weld some more steel to solidify the floor. About a month ago I was working out of town and saw this trailer dealer not too far from my job site. I took a look and I was absolutely amazed at how well these Exiss trailers are built. Everything is aluminum and the floor is made out of the same technology from transport trailers, all ribbed. It has nice big beams underneat for a frame but the attention to detail was amazing. And the price was very good. I priced a 36 feet fifth wheel, car hauler, had ramp door, 4 ft side door, aluminum wheels (16 inch), genset compartment, non insulated (I can do that myself), the whole thing weighed in at less than 6000 lbs and was priced at $19000.00 Can funds which would probably be around 17K US funds. If you want a dream trailer check out Exiss, funny thing though its that its made by Universal trailers which also makes Haulmark and Sooner. I would probably say that Exiss is there premium line of trailers. Check it out. http://www.exiss.com/php/motor/products/product.php?PRODUCT_ID=4 Dan
