Bleach Damage on Wood
John.Harper posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I do a lot of roofs and housewashing and I always cringe when I see exposed wood incase it gets hit by bleach and turns white but I've never had a serious issue with it. Today I was cleaning a roof and it was VERY windy and the homeowner had just stripped his deck. I kept it watered down tarped etc and somehow didn't have a problem but I was very nervous all day. What happens if you do bleach wood is there any way to fix it. Will a sodium hydroxide and oxalic wash fix it? Just curious so when the day does come I don't sit there talking to the homeowner without a confident answer. Thanks, John -

Residential calls starting to come in again!!
John.Harper replied to John T's question in Residential Pressure Washing
yea ive been at it 4 years now as im only 23 but every year I get deja vu seems like the leads have a real pattern .. I should probably be tracking that .. We did our first commercial jobs this year which seemed to fill the gaps when we least expected them. And just finished up 70 roofs in a retirement community and those people are all about word of mouth. Today I did one residents doctor and after that I was off to a different residents nephew's. Seems like its starting to pay off. But perfect timing again ended one big job and now BOOM the phones ringing again who needs a social life when your making money lol -

yea I hate spring when you do an estimate, they will get back to you in a few days and a few days later "well I really liked what you had to say but so and so said they'll do it for" .. well what are you talking to me for? I think they respect you more when you stick to your guns and its obvious why your the one getting the call back -

They're staining I think he just got done a day or two ago .. I talked to him about it while we were working he did a really good job with the full strip. I was just nervous because I complimented him on it and if I messed it up I would have felt really stupid. So you think a light oxalic wash would clear things up if this hypothetical event were to occur? -

Ive used f13 a few times it worked great I have some laying around use it here and there but I charge a premium to do the gutters it can take as long as the housewash and when I run out im usually lazy about getting more that stuff is nasty be careful handling it -

Hardwood Floor Maintenance and Sandless Refinishing
John.Harper replied to Greg R's topic in Floor & Carpet Care
I've done sanding of hardwood floors when I have down time its not a bad gig but it a lot of work.. I've read about the sandless floor stuff. Im pretty sure its just a cleaner that you use and you just clean it and apply polyurethane afterwards takes a lot of the work out of it and if its not too far gone you get pretty good results and you don't have to hold someones house hostage for over a week -
I'm bidding a job for a stucco housewash and the shutters are bleeding onto the stucco causing a red stain. Has anyone ever cleaned this without pressure? I dont want to step into this until i know what im getting into.

I would like to use them. What are they stable with?

Need help with possible efflo problem on tiles in pool room.
John.Harper posted a question in Residential Pressure Washing
Im set to do a demo in a hotel for their enclosed pool area. The tiles have a white stain over them, its pretty uniform. It does dissappear with water. Three other guys have been in to demo it over a 2 month period and none of them can touch it even after multiple attempts but from what i heard they were trying to use pressure and one guy even bought in a floor buffer to clean it i think im going to be the first soft wash guy to touch it. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this same problem. The hotel management is baffled over the stains and if i can clean this up for them i will be their hero and it will get my foot in the door for quite a bit of work hopefully. I was going to try to use a strong mix of oxalic acid and i am going to give a call to eacochem but if oxalic will do it then thats what im going to go with because the demo is set for this wednesday coming up. Thanks in advance you guys are awesome! -

the hotel has been around for 10 years but they built two extra floors on it and the state finally let them open up .. they have been open for 4 months now from what i know i but dont think it has been cleaned before just small test spots from other contractors .. im really not sure what the substrate is but it is some kind of odd stone .. im going to call eacochem today and see what they have to say -

Ive had about 10 calls about gutter cleaning in the past week and i've never done just gutter cleaning by itself. I normally clean the gutters when i do a roof but never just came to a house and did the gutters. These are people who want the insides of the gutter cleaned from leaves and debris. I set the appointments for early next week but i have no idea how to price it. Any advice. Do you charge by the linear foot or just throw a number out there. Thanks John

what to do about mildew deep inside wood?
John.Harper replied to randy miller's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
if theres mildew i would use bleachh .. high pressure isnt going to get you anywhere .. i would throw some bleach and a little bit of sodium hydroxide on it and see what happens .. -
South fla, broward county, are my pices too cheap? Or expensive?
John.Harper replied to Roberto Masson's question in Residential Pressure Washing
you should be charging 115 dollars just to bring that washer to their house , how much is it to rent a pressure washer for a day ? -
South fla, broward county, are my pices too cheap? Or expensive?
John.Harper replied to Roberto Masson's question in Residential Pressure Washing
are you pressure washing these roofs? If so maybe thats why your getting ten cents a square foot .. I think you need to educate yourself on roof cleaning you should be able to get ALOT more then that and you need to know whats actually going on up there and what the algae does .. you need to sound like a damn chemist when your infront of the homeowner .. and if your using a powerwasher your doing it wrong .. if your competition is using a pressure washer then you should be jumping up and down ... -

Should pressure washing companies be licensed???
John.Harper replied to Henry Bockman's question in Residential Pressure Washing
im pretty conservative when it comes to government but its not a bad idea but how would it be approached, it would be a great marketing tool, and for commercial it would be a must, pwna would have to do some serious work for this to be a reality. It could also turn into a huge cluster**** on the other hand and make it harder on everyone just like big government does .. it would have to be approached the right way and the people who are making the rules and requirements for licensing would have to be people from the industry which sounds like a no-brainer and would probably start out that way but the way government intrudes on everything it could quickly turn sour- 163 replies
