8 GPM COLD vs. 5.6 GPM HOT!! ?
John.Harper replied to White WASH's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
yea i would definently get the hot water machine theres nothing that the 8 gpm could really outperform it in and it would be cheaper and easier to transition it to a larger gpm with hot water capability .. some people will tell you differently but look around for something used .. someone going out of business or something like that .. maybe craigslist or ebay and you can save yourself alot of money and with a little bit of work youll have something if it doesnt work out you business wise could still make some money on .. if you buy new you will never be able to recoup that investment -

Trim Carpentry Question....deck/siding transition
John.Harper replied to bigchaz's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
i would take that last course of siding and the closest deck board to the house and put some real flashing in there for one and run the flashing down the joist thats up against that wall .. then rip some boards for that bottom course and put the other coarse up you originally took off .. or put that original coarse up and tuck the coarse your going to rip under it and face nail the original coarse with a trim nailer and lastly squeeze that deck board back in -
powder unless its bleach

Citric vs Oxalic where do you stand?
John.Harper posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I've been using oxalic for my wood restoration jobs whenever i do a strip. I know that theres a debate whether to use oxalic or citric i was just wondering who used what and why? I know that people will say that citric is safer but is it as effective? I have considered using citric after one job that i think i used too much oxalic and ended up using atleast 2X the amount of stain i figured on. -

Citric vs Oxalic where do you stand?
John.Harper replied to John.Harper's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
1) i think i first mixed sodium hydroxide and precarb then i mixed sodium hydroxide and bleach i was a bit tired last night 2) i used a lot of extra oxalic and my stain was only covering about 100 square feet per gallon and thats what i figured the problems was -
Citric vs Oxalic where do you stand?
John.Harper replied to John.Harper's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
i used to just use sodium hydroxide but now i use a blend of sodium hydroxide, percarbonate, and bleach after i did a strip with heavy moss growth and was kinda just generally darkish green and it seemed like where ever there was moss and algae it didn't strip below it very well so i experimented with a blend and it came up nicely but i had apply chems like 3 teams before it stripped and i got the idea to use bleach even tho i heard it was a no no. so i used extra oxalic to neutralize then i normally would have and ended up using a little over 15 gallons of stain if i remember correctly when i figured for about 7 it was completely ridiculous i never even told the HO because i felt like an idiot so i just told her i used like 8 and ate the rest of it which is why i started this thread -

John.Harper replied to John.Harper's topic in Chemicals & Safety
hahah he was a terrible boss we had to do something -
i think i have a general grasp on everything i just like to ask questions to hear others input and see if i can learn things from them .. i mix my housewash differently for every house depending on what it needs to be cleaned i usually add a range of alkalines i sometimes get a bit meticulous and its my first year i'd rather waste money on chems then start my second year with no returning customers

John.Harper replied to Jim Gamble's question in The Club House
6 speed audi with the 2.7 twin turbo motor ... you could get the a6 disguised as an executive car that looks like a boat .. my friend has one and spent about 2 grand and now it stays with vetoes .. or you could get the 2.7 in the older s4 body style which is stupid fast stock but you probably wouldn't like either one but its a bad ass motor i wanted to swap a 2.7 in my 02 audi a4 would have been the perfect carr looks and everything else -
