How long into the season do you clean roofs?I was thinking of pushing it later into the season this year.I know I typically stop normal house washing by the begining of November.Temperature effects the cleaner I use for house washing.I clean roofs all Summer long anyhow and thought about extending the season a little. You know,it's a money thing. Thanks for any and all responses.

What's you vehicle of choice...and why?
JeffW replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Anything I can pay for with cash. But seriously I drive (1) ton GMC van pulling a trailer.I am actually out of space though.Going today to purchase a van from Penn State University.I am going to set it up for doing roofs.I like vans because they provide additional covered storage along with the trailer. -
The gas station owner I know must pay for his gas before they pump any into his holding tanks.($15,000-$20,000) at a time.If he does'nt raise his prices he will not be able to by enough gas the next to meet his demands. If this trend continues he will soon not be able to buy any amount of gas.I can see why they must pre-pay; Lets say a station is given $20,000 worth of gas on credit and the station owner takes the gas and sells it all and then closes shop with never paying the merchant for their gas.

Just my 2 cents but be very careful with all products, even those that are environmentally safe,...misused these products can still kill plants and grass.I am not familiar with R109 but I just wanted to speak about environmentally safe products.Yes I would rather use products that will make the job easier and just take the necessary precautions to avoid a problem with vegetation.Environmentally safe and biodegradable products can be a little misleading.

Yes,that is a true act of kindness. And what a sense of fulfillment huh!!! Good deal.

You have to match horsepower to your new pump. You probably cannot exceed your current PSI and flow rating by much if any, depending on your drive engine. The brand is'nt as important as matching your current specs. Also make sure the new pump has the correct hollow shaft size to match your drive engine shaft.

Networks are highly competetive which makes for highly competitve reporters because if you and your crew are'nt covering what people want to see they will find someone who will.As for furthering a career, whats wrong with that. This is there job and they want to keep advancing or they will fall out of the picture. These people are doing what the networks are asking of them.Until you walk in someone elses shoes it's hard to say whats right or wrong.Remember they are the experts in what people want to see and they put whatever it happens to be on tv.The point is,maybe we're all to blame as a whole for what they show on the news. And I do agree with what they are doing in Iraq. And yes there should be more reporting on the good over there.

Without reporters and coverage the message for help would not even be heard.Someone has to report on it or people like you and I would not even know it was going on and not be able to see that help and supplies are needed. And the reporters are just doing the job they were trained to do , the job they get paid for so they can feed their own family.

I definitely agree with the safety aspect, only more reason for those who have suv's to cut back on other unneccesary things so they can pay for gas and provide a safe ride for their family.I have an astro van and it gets around 20 MPG, not great, but I also like the security of a regular sized vehicle.Gas stations don't make alot of profit on gas,in fact my friend said he would quit selling it but that is how he makes other sales, including service appointments.Gas is what people stop for and then they spend money on other things, which is where the profit comes from.
-
My friend owns a service station and said when he buys gas it is cash first before any is pumped in.$15,000-$20,000.He has no choice but to put the price up now or he will not be able to buy enough gas from his supplier the next time when the price is alot more.I do feel bad for people who were barely making it anyhow, they did'nt need this. There are also alot of those complainers though that will complain about high gas prices but then buy three packs of ciggaretes and a case of soda and then stop at the beer distributor for a case of beer and then go out to eat that night in their gas guzzlin' SUV.

Lets see how many countries aid the USA during a crisis such as this.Maybe I'm speaking to soon but I have a feeling there will be none! But you can be sure the USA is always expected to go above and beyond to help in time of crisis.

I agree, these nitwits almost relish in the fact that this type of tradgedy happens. It's just one big bonanza for them.Because most of these idiots that are stealing don't have anything valuable to lose anyhow.I seen one guy on there that had a shopping cart full of shoes.I don't like the word looting,I prefer to say stealing because these people are thieves and saying" looting" kind of sugar coats it.That looks more like a third world country rather than part of the United States.I just hope they don't move very far north.

Every Fall I clean boat bottoms at a local marina.Bottoms only, nothing else.I clean the green algae off the bottom of boats that have sit in the water all Summer. Most are blocked up but a few are on trailers.I charge $4.00 a foot with a $100.00 minimum.Takes one hour or less and and my expenses are minimal.I buy my cleaner at a local chemical dealer in bulk and I live only one mile from marina.Good extra money,if there is such a thing as extra money.Just wondering if anyone else was doing any of this and what they are charging.Thank you for any responses.

I hear ya' man,I'm definetly guilty of living in the past,.......and mostly what I regret is not taking more pictures or video.Memories are great, but the pictures and the video I do have are precious reminders also.By the way my cousin has the same type of motobike, the curved handle bars and all.Funny thing is , when you're young you don't realize that you're in the best years of your life, you're to busy building the memories that you will be looking at when you're older.

Ryan ,Don't know what you got paid but it sounds like you earned it, and then some!

ClassicPW,from the remarks made by "tunatussle" you should definetly pursue this. Not sure about the amount of work with barnicles but $8-$10 dollars a foot sounds good to me,especially if you get a fast routine going.30 foot boat @$10.00 ft. $300.00.I don't do banicles, but three hours on a boat this size would seem reasonable.I would jump all over this if I were you.Good luck, and let me know how you make out if you do give it a shot. When do the boats down there begin to come out?
-
Do one and see what happens.I do know that bottom paint does'nt clean up as easy as gel coat, not for me anyhow. That's why I don't do them.A rotating nozzle would be best bet for barnicles but the bottom paint will probably not take it.Experiment a little.I am not sure of the theory behind bottom paint but I think it's to protect the gel coat for a couple of years and then it is redone, just something I heard once.Maybe someone could enlighten me.I did a couple of boats with bottom paint years ago and what I remember most is big sheets of this stuff coming off.Do a little research and find out what the customers expect when the job is completed.Maybe with a barnicle problem this would keep them from attaching to the gel coat and then when the boat is cleaned , you're actually just removing paint and the barnicles come off with the paint.

I am looking at a new enclosed trailer.7'x14' dual axle and 7000 GVW.Does anyone else have this type and if so what capacity tank are you hauling and where is it located in the trailer? Thanks for any and all responses.
-
Nice job!! And thanks for the input on the trailer.Thats a pretty nice looking trailer with all the advertising on it.That is the same exact trailer I was looking at 7'x14' Haulmark with the barn doors.

Go to pressure washer supplier and buy an adjustable wand.It is a wand with a handle on the side that when turned either increases pressure or decreases pressure instantly.

I have a customer who called about sealing a cedar sided house.I typically don't do sealing and told him I would help with finding out a little info.It is two years old and very clean. Question: How much square footage will one gallon of sealer cover. This siding is a little rough.I know I could read the can but I wanted real advice from people who do it day to day,and also because it is rough.Thank you very much for any responses.I will have the total squre footage tommorow when I go out and measure for them. Thanks!

cedar siding?
JeffW replied to JeffW's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Shane, thanks it definetly helped, and I will post more details tommorow about product, square footage etc.. Thank you for the input!! I just received the call today and wanted to get the ball rolling before I went out. Thanks again! I'll post some pictures if I can figure out how. -
That actually is a pretty good deal, just not sure it's what I'm looking for.I was looking at a trailer with the barn doors on the back and 14' long. And distance would be something to think about.Tempting though.I'll watch and see what happens with it.Does the washer @$3500.00 come with the trailer it's sitting on?Thank you for responding to my post.

I wear Dickies dark blue uniform pants, about $17.00 bucks at Wal-Mart.They are dark and though. But I like them dark because they don't reveal dirt and stains. And bleach does'nt even seem to effect them. They also fit very well.I used to wear the light colored type khaki pants but they would spot up really bad. I wear gray t-shirt with name of business on front. For footwear I wear Muckboots, they fit very well and offer great protection.I also wear Mechanix gloves. They allow you to handle hoses, ladders etc... with excellent protection. I buy the Mechanix gloves with padded palms, every little bit helps.$27.99 a pair at Lowes. And for any type of light chemical protection I keep a set of Frogg Toggs rain gear in my van, they fit like pajamas. Keep your shirts tucked in,it just looks more proffessional.Customers do notice. Not only that but when I call to have something done I always like seeing the guys or girls show up with a neat appearance.I wouldn't tell someone to leave but I still prefer the neat appearance no matter what job they are there to do.
