Defurring questions
Bailey Property Service posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I notice people mentioning 3M pads for defurring. The ones I received from the Deck Guide were not 3m. Are the 3M pads better? These tore and wore down very quickly. Just ordered some Osbornes from Mcmaster-Carr hopefully the will last longer. I purchased 20 pads to do the 3000 Sq Ft deck Im working on and they didnt even make it to the end. Lee -
Percarb over rated?
Bailey Property Service posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Just washed a deck with EFC-38 full strength. No sealer present. Deck was green with a thin layer of algae I guess. Barely budged the stuff. Any suggestions? Lee -

Percarb over rated?
Bailey Property Service replied to Bailey Property Service's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
It is not ACQ. Its on mahogany that had not been seales in 6 years or so. It came out fine but just seemed I had to use alot more pressure than usual. Was green layer very slippery. I boosted the EFC-38 with a little NaOH that worked a little better. I wonder if I should be cleaning with diluted Naoh insted of percarb. Lee -

Need Advice

Going to purchase some new equipment this week. Should I get a Fatboy set up for spraying caustics and neutralizer or get another deckster and use that for chemicals? Any advise appreciated. -
Water Stains
Bailey Property Service posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Stripped and brightened a deck and was unable to seal before it rained. Now there is a big water stain in the bare wood where the water collected. Probably have to clean it off? Thoughts. Lee -

Possible problem
Bailey Property Service posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have a customer that is redoing a ground level screen porch. All the screens and framing were removed so I decided to strip the wood inside while they were down. Floor is Douglas Fir. It had at least three layers of Sikkens SRD on it. Lets just say it wasn't fun. I did a test spot with full strength HD-80. Over an hour dwell and the last layer still wouldn't completely come off. I could tell this wood was going to fur badly. Boosted the stripper and all but pieces here and there came off. The floor looked like a 70's shag rug but it was stripped. I went back today to Defur. When I sanded any spots where the stain remained they came out a lot lighter than the wood the stripper contacted. Is this normal and am i going to see those spots after I seal? Im just wondering if Im going to have to do a lot of sanding to get it more uniform. Any input appreciated. Oh yeah I did neutralize. Thanks. Lee P.S. What would you seal it with. -

Toning down the red

What AC or Ready Seal semi to tone down the natural red tones of Douglas Fir. I was thinking Rustic Brown in AC or Medium Brown in Ready Seal. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Lee -

Now that I think about it I'm not sure the bottom layers were not urethane. Home owner said he remembered putting two coats of SRD on. -

Me too. Unfortunately there are lots of decks here with it on them. -

I did sand the whole deck. The deck is uniform except for where the were small pieces of Sikkens that did not come off. When I sanded the spots that had the sealer still there came out much lighter than the rest.It looked like new wood. When I neutralized I used 8oz to the gallon of Citralic. Was this not strong enough? I thought that was full strength. -

Thanks for the tips. Sounds like a deckster would be more approptiate. -
Black streaks on white fascia
Bailey Property Service posted a question in Residential Pressure Washing
Any way to remove these black streaks from shingle organics. They resemble the streaks on gutters but run down the gleaming white fascia and shadow board. Looks really bad. I just painted all the trim 3 months ago and now looks like crap. Thanks. Lee -

That was my thought on the brown sugar. Do you get your product at the sealer store? Do they ship next day? Thank you Lee -
First strip and seal
Bailey Property Service posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Just received my first order of HD80 and Citralic. My first deck with these products. I will be stripping a 8 by 12 mahogany deck that has Australian timberoil on it that's 6 yrs old.The deck has no handrails. I put the original sealer on when the deck was new. The homeowner put another coat on about three yrs ago. Never cleaned anything just paved over what was there. The deck is very black and dirty but still beads water. I have few questions. 1.How does timberoil strip. Is it as bad a Sikkens? 2.Will Hd 80 do anything to the Latex painted skirt boards around the deck. 3.The end of the season is fast approaching. Any issues of using Hd 80 when temps are mid 50's 4. What sealer would you recommend for mahogany. Rs, Woodtux, Ac? Thanks in advance Lee
