wood tux and dressing up your wood.
Henry B. posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have to admit I really do like the slogan and from what I've heard Beth raive about it I have to wonder if it might really be some good stuff. My biggest concern is how well has this product been tested? From everything I have read on here and online this product just came out within the last 6 months or so. That tends to make me a bit nervous about selling it to customers that I want to keep. Ive been using ABR X100 for a few years for my high grade sealer and Olympic for my price shopping clients that want the name recognition of the product. Wood tux sounds great in name but is there anyone out there that has stained with it for the past few years?? I know different weather conditions and weathering conditions can make the same sealer act completly different so I'm REAL concerned about trying out a new product that has not been long term tested on someone elses property. I applied the ABR to the fence in my yard a year before I first sold it to a client just to see how well it held up and how long it lasted. It's been 5 years and the fence is just barely starting to fade. Can Wood tux offer the same guarrantee? More importantly, will wood tux back up their guarrantee? I'm not trying to badmouth anyones product, god knows how many of us feel about olympic and the smell of x100 but can anyone give us some history on this product? -

Any tips for using the gutter cleaning attatchment
Henry B. replied to tinman's topic in Window & Gutter Cleaning
I don't like them either. If you don't get up on a ladder how will you know if everything has been washed out? How do you remove sticks and other junk like tennis balls in the downspouts? -
Thanks Beth, I found one place in PA on ebay but I couldn't find a website for them. I really think I'm going to end up getting a van with a lift. Then mount another small 5gpm hot water rig inside it.
-
Thanks Beth, that sounds like the place Mathew told me about a while back. Let me know if you find the link and I'll see if I can find it also. I'm just tired of renting lifts. Last month I spent about $1,500 on lift rentals. I don't need or use them often but if I had one, I'd use it all the time! They would be awesome for roof cleaning, roof repairs and ice dam removals. They would also be really nice for some of the complexes we clean gutters on.

9gpm?? Hmm I like that MORE POWER thing..lol Stainless steel frame would also be pretty too but I'm planning on getting a box truck in the spring. Why make it pretty if no one's going to see it. I'm also thinking about getting a utility body truck with a 40' lift built in it, I just can't decide. I wish someone made a box truck with a 40' lift, then it would make my choice easier. I like having my equipment sheltered from the weather because we work in the rain a lot. Another concern is theives or vandals.

I have to agree with Russell and Beth.. Using these agents full strength through an x jet is REALLY risky. It makes it to airborn and you don't know where it's going to float. If it lands on pumps or cars it could be a really nasty situation. You should use a deckster or shurflow pump in a situation like this. You still have to be careful with the spray but it's a lot more controlled in this application.

Staring with Home Depot's Excell 3700psi
Henry B. replied to Fire Water's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I'm not sure what negative comments Mike is talking about, maybe someone edited out a post or something. He is right about a lot of people starting out with a machine like that. I baught a couple of them 2 years ago just to finish a large contract job and we still use them. I've got two Home Depot Machines mounted in two of my vans right now. Another van has a deckster sprayer and a cold water unit mouned in it. Today, I just purchased another Chevy that I'll use for a trailer rig and I may mount one in that too..lol I made my suggestions based on experience and what works well for me and I suggest you do the same. Take a look at the options and do what's best for you. If you have any questions you also welcome to give me a call. -
Staring with Home Depot's Excell 3700psi
Henry B. replied to Fire Water's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Why don't you buy yourself a small cold water machine and mount it in the back of a pickup truck. Then you can get hose reels and long hoses that will stop you from having to lift it out of the truck all the time. Before buying a power washer, check out the article on power washers on the bottom of this page. -
I would just wait until the temps warm up a few more degrees. Sometimes that happens with hot water also. You also have to be careful that hot water doesn't come in contact with cold windows, it can crack them! I'm thinking about making some snow in my yard a day or so before christmas... Who else has tried it and how well does it work? Come on, I know I'm not the only guy to think of this!
-
That sounds like a pretty good deal to me... My biggest concern though would be maintenance. If you know how to work on machines then good, if not. You might want to find a local source to buy from.

Do you have Harry Potter fans in your house?
Henry B. replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
We went to the 11:50am showing so I could get back to the office and take care of some work. The movie was great and the kids had a blast. -

Henry B. replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
Hey Beth, I'm taking my kids to see it tomorrow also. Were going to the Germantown theatre, no set time though. Just when I can get them together and finished with their chores. -
I've seen hot water skid units at Sun Brite Supply for around $4,000. Big gas tanks on them too which I like.

I'd suggest starting another company. If you change your company name to something more generic you will loose name recognition you have now. If you have any questions about roofing let me know, I've been doing repairs for years..

Advice on stains (locally)
Henry B. replied to CCPC's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Olympic recently changed it's formula to become VOC compliant... I'd recommend staying away from it until you see what it will do... I'm considering dropping the Olympic line myself. I would suggest using ready seal or wood tux for the job. -
It's actually illegal to attach anything to a mail box, in a mail box or it's post or the little flags. You can be fined heavily for it too but it's rare.

I've kept up on the maintenance on all of our stuff, I just found one that I liked better from acr products when I was traveling through to New York a few months back.
-
When it comes to surface cleaners, guns, nozzles, QD's ect... Quality is far more important than price.. Take this bit of advice from a guy who's gone through 2 surface cleaners in 18 months.. All of them were good name brands but just didn't hold up as well as they should have.

Mathew, This may be true but at the same time it's important that statements are correct. I have to believe that if anyone was making incorrect statements about our companies we would also want to correct them in the same forum they were made in. I think that's part of the reason another BBS went private, there was too much time taken in correcting misconceptions instead of pro active work. That's why I suggested for people to get find out or get involved on their own and make up their own minds. I'm not complaining about the time or money I've invested, I'm actually glad that I found something I believe in so much that I can support in such a manner. That's why I defend it when I feel that there's been a mistake. I like Ron and I think he's got a lot of knowledge in the industry, I just know that some of his comments were a bit off or mistated and I wanted to correct them before someone misunderstood them and took them to be true. I know he didn't set out to take shots at anything or anyone but it came across that way to me and I wanted to set the record strait. I'm done now..
-
Ron, I'm too tired to argue with you so I'll just state facts, your wrong. CAA is National, we've had people from Europe and all over the USA email and call about it. The Cooperston project was just one job of many done during CAA among many others in quite a few states. The CAA has recieved a fair amount of media coverage and also print. Over 600,000 people have read the various press releases on it also. No one on the BOD is paid for what we do. We actually spend a LOT of our own time and money to perform our duties with no monetary compensation or anything else. I've spent probably $3,000 and over 400 hours of my time away from my family and my company on PWNA stuff since I got on the BOD. I still pay my membership dues each year just like everyone else and for all the conventions. Which by the way we had over 150 members attend last year. Ron, on many occasions you have talked about coming to BOD meetings and to conventions and every time you have failed to show. You ask and talk about change but I don't see you volunteering your time to make these changes happen, you just leave it to the BOD. The BOD is VERY dedicated but we can only do so much on our own, if your willing to volunteer your time as much as your comments, maybe we could get more done. Which commitee would you like to help out on to work on these changes you speak of?
-
Hey Beth, I figured if anyone would understand you would.. You've been in this seat before and it's a nice ride but it get's bumpy also..lol Also, anyone is welcome to sign up for water works, it's free and it's got pretty much anything you want to know in it.

Hey Carlos, Every month the PWNA puts out a newsletter with a presidents message in it that talks about whats going on in the org... It's possible to have someone stop by every BBS each month and put out some kind of message on what the PWNA is working on but, that's why there is an announcement forum on the PWNA BBS. I think everyone forgets that the PWNA is mostly run by volunteers and we all put an amazing amout of time and effort into it already. I could (as a PWNA member not BOD) visit every BBS once a month and do this but, why? The information is there if you want it. Were all business owners and if we want to know something "we find out" what we want to know. I invest so much time in PWNA stuff already that I don't understand why it's necessary to for me to go around and feed out info on top of what I already do. Of course we want to promote the org but at the same time, when is enough enough? Expecially if every time you promote the org you get feedback like what's in it for me? if you want to know what's in it for you find out! or put something into it "before" you voice negative comments about what it lacks. Have you heard the Washington Posts logo before? It's "If you don't get it, you don't get it." Once again, this is just me talking here as a frustrated PWNA member.
-
Sorry, I don't agree. I like TGS and I respect Beth for all the work she and others have done to make it what it is but, it's not the same as the PWNA or any other org. I'm not going to sit here and debate the subject with someone that's already made up their mind from what they see online. There's a lot more to real life than the internet and there's a lot more to the PWNA than what's seen on the internet. The discounts you recieve for the conventions and certifications alone cover the cost of the membership. Then add on the amount of work you can pick up from being a member and the other benefits. Your comparing apples to pinapples here. This is of course my personal opinion because I'm on the inside and I can see what it's done to benefit my company and many others. I don't see any reason to comment on this as a BOD member either because it will only lead to someone else that doesn't have the inside story chopping apart my comments. Give it a rest guys, this thread is not about the PWNA. It's about what should an org do for you and the PWNA is doing everything that's been suggested and more. If you don't see that you might want to investigate it more for yourselves and see how much it could benefit your companies. $200 isn't a lot to ask for what you can recieve and you can write it off! Sorry, I just don't see $200 being a big dent in my budget but if it is, I'd have more problems than figuring out if a PWNA membership was worth it.

To Bleach Or Not To Bleach???
Henry B. replied to jgoral76's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I use the least amount of chemicals I can to do the job so if there is no mold, I don't use the bleach. I will say it's pretty rare for a house not to have either green mold or the small black mildew spots on siding, expecially near the joints in this area.
