sflasealcoating posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hey, Well Somehow i got myself into doing a wood deck and some railing.... the job is Monday 2500 sq ft of pavers and the lady wants her wood deck cleaned and stained as well.... We do pavers and concrete never wood nor do i plan on it in the future lol.... I know ive cleaned 50/50 bleach dawn blend for fence.worked very well....but never sealed I know theres lots of diff companies on here where you buy your stains ect..i dont have that kinda of time ... theres a local supplier i get sealer from that ill grab some #1 What should i look for when getting the stain.r there many diff kinds?....is it just like a concrete sealer?? #2 Can i use a surface cleaner over the deck ??? #3 how should i apply the stain roller, brush, sprayer??? If someone could gimme the quick lowdown it would be MUCH appriciated. Thank you, Cody -

WEll i belive i mis-worded my statement.... The homehowner just wants the deck sealed...i cleaned it today came out good.. Sealer is just what polyurithain? spelling sorry. Im assuming a stain is different then a sealer??? And is a sealer a lil easier to apply ince its a thinner product? -

Becuase i live in Florida i dont knwo what everyone else has around them.... I use a company call acrylux out of pompano beach,.....however porter paint has good water base color seal.... i think they have those up north..now this is ONLY for color stain....water base SEALER for concrete and pavers is Worthless! lol IMO only time i ever use waterbase sealer is on Marble or travertine decks..

Thats All we do....I personally dont like pressure cleaning to much....and hand most of my pressure cleaning jobs off to other companies.....We specialize in Paver sealing, restoration and concrete staining. And Barry..... just for future... u may wanna try water base color sealer as well....its actually just as thick in texture as the solvent....and Soooo much easier to work with...for anything without automobile traffic it may be the best bet..holds up vry well..we do all water base on patios.... Save you from smelling like xylene #1 and it cleans up alot better also.. :) IMO

Hello, I own south florida eal coating and cleaning in south florida... Been in buisness for over 2 years now, but ive been strongly looking into opening a retail and service shop for pressure cleaning equipment sales and service and cleaning suplies... there are TONS of pressure cleaning companies in the south florida area and about 3 known pressure cleaning equipment stores in a 50 mile area.. I was trying to get some info from anyone who has opened such a place....as far as distribution, sales, ect.. any advice would be gladly taken. Thank you Cody

Opening a retail store ??
sflasealcoating replied to sflasealcoating's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Thank you for the responses, But in regards to distributers and and so few responses, my question was on a broader scale not (what, or who's) products to use. My question was more about how one went about speaking to wholesalers and the actual start up of a retail store and facility. As far a growth of my company, that would not be a smart choice in this situation. We grossed 250,000.00 in sales last year according to my taxes, with myself and one worker. 250k, which is MUCH more then i expected for a 2nd year business. That is all without advertising. I subcontract through 5 very large installation companies whom use myself to subcontract out their sealing. So i have no need to try to expand , and too many buisnesses do this and fold in on themselves. My sealing business would abviousely co-exist with the opening of a sales facility. I'm still young, but will only be able to do manual labor for so long before i just plain get tired lol. Retail i feel is a much more safe venture as far as solid income. If done right , that is. NOw to the topic. To open a pressure cleaning and chemical retail location, from what i have come up with would need these key things : Location materials for resale.... pressure cleaning equipment/chems/sealers ect. advertising Staff ie: mechanic insurance/licensing if theres anythign i missed feel free to add.??... now the question i would have, and to not step on toes, someone can pm me as to how to and who to contact for wholesale of said products to resale. -

Hello, Ive asked a few questions on cleaning with bleach before, so 4 giv me if this is redundant. I dont use chlorine often becuase i deal with pavers, so i use muratic acid blends and detergents. I have a large driveway and back patio to clean however and its 24x24 slabs of precast shell rock COVERED in black mold and mildew, about 9,000 sq ft. Ive tried using chlorine before on mold and i thick running it through my chem injector is diluting it to much cus it didnt really do to much..... could someone tell me what chlorine to get?? im using just reg pool chlorine ?? and what would be better to work 50%chlorine 50 water?? also i saw some people use reg soap in the blend?? what kind?? thank you

What Grade of Gasoline do you use
sflasealcoating replied to Aplus's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I figured id clear a few things up.....will high octain ruin my honda motor? No will it give me inproved performance? no will it help to run cleaner? no MOst honda motors including some of the major cleaner motors gx610 gx620 gx 670 run @ 8.3:1 compression ratio, high octain fuel requires a longer burn tme as said earlier, and is actually LESS explosive than lower octain fuels. This fuel burns through a longer period of time throughout the stroke. Having these characteristics, higher octain fuel is recommended for compression ratios 9.5:1 or higher or forced induction applications where both air and fuel are pushed into the cylinders creating higher compression. By using a higher octain fuel in a lower compression motor will result in unburned fuel, adjusting the carb jet sizes for more fuel or air mixture will just lean or richen this condition not cuase for a complete burn. So, use whichever fuel you desire, they all will work. Higher octain fuel wont give you any gains nor will it hender so basically its just your extra 10-20 cents a gallon. :) -
general pump surface cleaner
sflasealcoating replied to sflasealcoating's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I doubt that had anythign to do with the problem...Everyone ive spoken with here uses 4's in their machines for 3500 psi.. I've run 4's with the same machine and my whisper washers and whirlaways for years without any probs. Hmmm if i put 4.5 in and their made for 3000psi wouldnt i be cuttign down the cleaning power of the machine??? I would think the oriface size of the 4's would allow me to get the most ou of the 3500 psi at 8 gpm.. But i will from now on Pay for the top of the line and not settle lol i learned my lesson, besides that general cleaner was heavy as all hell. Im 5'10 205 and it was a workout for me to do a job with it.lol :) -

new to wood cleaning
sflasealcoating posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
hello all, I have been a member of this site for a while. I own South Florida seal coating, we specialize in concrete paver and concrete cleaning and sealing. Unfortunately i know very little about cleaning wood, but am thinking about adding that to our services. I know many people have many diff products that they use, but for a generalized cleaning of old wood w / mildew/mold, what is the best to use.... bleach?? chlorine?? ive seen a few posts about 12% bleach blend with water? I know these may all sound like newby questions but well, when it comes to wood i guess i am lol. Thank you for any info, COdy -
