TWP 200 Cedartone on P/T
dsp powerwash replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
My product of choice usually 1 coat is enough, I generally use the 205 or 206. they have more pigment and dont look so dark when first applied. -
One Year Old TWP Stain
dsp powerwash replied to Scott Paul's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Twp 200 is the same as bakers. except bakers is thinned down more. Ive been using it for 3 years and its the best all around ive used and it recoats so easy. it gives very consistent results. frank -
Airless Sprayer Tip
dsp powerwash replied to Mountain View's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I dont think to many people use an airless with ready seal. It is so thin, bakers is a little thicker. I think you will get misting with a larger orifice also, because you will need to up the pressure some to get it to spray evenly.try a 215 or 315 on the spindles. frank -
Is 3000psi 2.7 gpm enough?
dsp powerwash replied to jake16's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Knowledge of what your doing is most important.A tool is just an extension of the person doing the job, and some guys need bigger extentions than others. -
Blackened decks
dsp powerwash replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Dan TWP 200 series is a parrafin oil product. It is the same thing as bakers. Actually bakers is thinned down TWP. -
Blackened decks
dsp powerwash replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I checked on some decks this week that I did last year. Woodtux decks dull and moldy .TWP 200 decks clean and bright. -

Surprise! - waterbased on ipe'
dsp powerwash replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
After reading Ricks post on eht being water based I took a look at a can I have had for a couple of years and never used.Yes it was water based and the ingrediants looked familiar.I looked at a can of wolman raincoat which I also had and the ingrediants read exactly the same. How they are formulated so the eht costs twice as much i dont know ? Maybe the label costs a lot more on the eht can!I m sure wolman will tell you why they are different.Anyway this is not necisarily bad, wolman raincoat actually is cheap, goes on easy once you get the right technique,is easy water cleanup, can go on damp wood, and looks good especially on somewhat weathered wood, It also washes off very easy when recoating. after using it occasionally over the years have found it to actully last as long or longer than anything else except maybe a heavilly tinted product. Just putting this out there for what its worth. frank -
First Woodtux Results of '08
dsp powerwash replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Scott, does the 500 series have a parafin/resin combo? are you sure the 200 series does ? thanks frank -
What are the "wet formulas??"
dsp powerwash replied to jbruno's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Wolman raincoat ,cheap, easy to get ,looks ok especially on older decks, easy to apply and cleanup, can be used on damp wood, lasts about as long as anything 2-3 yrs. and washes off real easy to recoat. doesnt condition the wood like a good oil base, but is a lot better choice than acrylic. I dont use it much i have been using parafin oil products and woodtux. But sometimes think the expensive products dont really last any longer and wonder if the customer really cares about the difference. -
Happiness is a great commercially available stain.
dsp powerwash replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I thought low voc limit was 250 g/l. is your dealer selling old stock? probably a good product but at 32% solids i dont see how its low voc. -
penofin

Stripping Olympic stains?
dsp powerwash replied to rj242's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I used to use Olympic Maximum mostly on fences. It was an easy to use oil based product and gave a nice natural look. In low v.o.c. states it is now water based and I dont use it any more as I feel recoating of acrylics will be a problem. -
Post VOC law 2005 sealer changes
dsp powerwash replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
With all the new acrylics being sold. What are we going to do when we start running into a lot of decks previously coated with acrylic. Stripping them is a pita and a lot of people wont want to pay. Start using solid on them? I used to use cabot decking stain on old decks that were way over coated. They usually looked dark brown, i would strip the floor and just wash and coat over the rails. Cabot chestnut brown usually matched close enough to cover and blend with the old stain. The decks looked fine and hold up great. It was a way to do a good job reasonably with out totally stripping or going to a solid .The new cabot doesnt cover well enough to do this anymore. The only products that might work now are semi trans acrylics and its like well if i use acrylic this time ill probably just go over it with a solid next time because im not going to want to strip it. Im getting to the point if i cant get it to bare wood or the customer doesnt want to pay, use a solid. -
wood furring... various issues
dsp powerwash replied to hoosierwindowtek's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Prewetting as jim said helps, but if the deck was real neglected there probably wasnt much old stain to remove and you may have mixed the stripper to strong or let it dwell to long. frank
