This is a great thread. I'll bet a lot of the "crazy" ideas we post here already exist or soon will. Maybe some of the distributers can post some rare but usefull stuff here.

Maybe an alum brightener? Just a thought. If I'm wrong, I can blame it on the fact that I'm really tired. If I'm right, it's because I'm a genious.

No way. Where can you find it? Mike, what about the double gulp downstreamer?

What are most important equipment & chems
Jarrod replied to yazbird8's question in Residential Pressure Washing
djcs, you came to the right place for advice. Home Depot is the wrong place to go for anything that has to do with pressure washing. Zep is all overpriced junk. I know, I've used it. With a 2.7 gpm unit, I would advise upgrading to a 5.5 gpm unit for cleaning houses, decks, & fleets - especially fleets. As far as chems go, there are a lot of TGS suporters here that will help you. -
A chem/film that you can spray on a house to protect it from overspray from stain. when the deck is dry, the homeowner can just peel it off.

Business coach? Sounds interesting.

Phillip, what you said was very well put. There are so many "up from the ashes" success stories in this great country. Barry, I really think with all of our help & your experience, you have a great shot at being a very succesfull full time PWer. Think about it, all you need to do is land 1 fleet wash account, and you are on your way. ONE FLEET WASH ACCOUNT!!!! I have done very well with fleets for several years now, and I can help you get started with the right chems, equip (if needed), sales pitch, and so on. Actually, if you want to come and visit me, you are more than welcome. I'm not that far from you. Work with us for 1-3 days and I'll show you all I can. You will leave all fired up and with a lot of knowledge.

Estimate Sales Pitch and Strategy
Jarrod replied to Mike Stahmer's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Jonathan, I think you misunderstood my ?. - I was asking if you guys do follow up calls on bids left at the customer's home without meeting the customer. BTW - I always do follow up calls. I have earned the right to do so. Because I - Paid for the ad Answered the phone Qualified the customer over the phone Answered their questions over the phone Addressed their concerns over the phone Shared my valuable knowledge over the phone Drove to their home Measured their deck Inspected their deck Wrote up a detailed proposal Left them with a bunch of useful info backed by a lot of thought & experience. -
Estimate Sales Pitch and Strategy
Jarrod replied to Mike Stahmer's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I closed a $3,500.00 deck last year in my dirty work clothes. I warned her b4 I came and she said she didn't care how I looked. The funny thing was when I got to her house I looked at my reflection in her door window and my face was covered in MUD! Even worse, I had already rung the doorbell! When she answered the door she laughed hysterically at me. Who would have thought mud would be a ice breaker & a closer! I think I'm gonna keep a fresh jar of mud in my truck for the big jobs. Anyways, the info on closing here is very good for face to face, but, most of the time when I do bids, the cust. is not home. How many of you do follow up calls, and if so, how do you handle them? -

You HAVE TO measure. We charge by the sq. ft. -
Ken, Adrian & Beth both made great points. I'm very sorry about your struggle.

Same here, swivels. Make sure that they are HIGH PRESSURE SWIVELS.

Come on Condo King, get a 8 gpm man! But if you must get a 5.5 gpm, go for the higher psi.

I have yet to have a problem with E spec in 5 years. -
That's good to know. I know when I put a new pump on, I use a red grease first.

Pull very hard! Make sure you don't loose the keyway! (the little metal "shim" that goes in the "groove" in the shaft.) WD 40?

You only use it on the "square" that the oil spot is on, not the whole area.
