  1. So let me get this straight. Somebody hounds a developer of a product to make it more consumer friendly? Then He, doesn't tell anybody and you tell the customer it dries in 30 minute's and could be rained on. 5 Hours later the finish is almost gone after a rain storm.( Never happened before with RS)

I have 5 decks that needed more product and service(WTW), Who's responsible? Ken Or Russel ? I figure I'm owed about 2 grand !!

The best line I saw was a comment by Ken that he say's; I 'm not an expert with Wood Tux ! Let's make that Ready seal or wood care......

Come on Jim, it seems you are always waiting in the shadows for an oppertunity to get under Ken's skin. Ken is an expert wood guy. I have learned a lot from him & others here.

The fact is, WTW made my company better in many ways. We have never been on schedule like we are this year. The fact that our decks look 10X better than they ever did, really speaks volumes for WTW.

We have done at least 50 jobs with WTW this year. So far I'm very glad I switched to it.

There's no such thing as a perfect product. Every "feature" comes with a price. For example -

    (Ready Seal)

Feature - you can pretty much set the can in the middle of the deck and kick it over and it looks great.

Price - You have to set up, drive to the job, stab the deck in 4 different areas with a stupid moisture meeter, & if the moisture content is above 12%, go home. That "price" ruins the whole thing for me right there. My guys would quit in a week.

  2. Jarrod,

Sounds awesome gonna try to make it!! Its only a one hour flight to Detroit or a 5hr drive from here!!

Will all the demos be on one day or are they split up over the two days?

    Hey man, Cool name!!

My 2nd eldest son is Jerrod!! He's 7 yrs. old. :taz:

The demos will all be on 1 day.

Thanks for the compliment on the name.

I hope to see you there.

  3. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because of the carrying capacity of the bus that I'm chartering, I have to limit attendance to 45 people. I am currently working with the vendors about the cost of this event. As soon as I find out about the cost to the attendees, I'll post that number. Whatever the cost is to the attendees, believe me, it will be worth it.

Barry and Don are helping me to plan this event. I want to thank them for that. I will be talking to Michael Kreisle this week regarding his topic. He shared a ton of great info at the STL RT in Feb.

    For the demos -

Deck strip - I will be stripping a 500 sq. ft. deck and going over all the tricks that will save you a ton of time.

House wash - I will wash a nasty, moldy house using the downstream method. This will give you a "hands on" look at this method. If you're on the fence with ds'ing houses, this will convince you that ds'ing is faster & easier than X-Jetting.

Deck stain - Me & Barry will stain a 500 sq. ft. deck with Wood Tux. And yes, it will be wet. I will share my efficiency methods with you as well. It's one thing to read and hear about methods. But I gotta tell you, seeing is believing! What's really cool, you get to see WTW in action in a real setting.

If there's enough interest, I will also do a short fleet wash demo.

Each demo will take less than an hour to do. (As far as the labor goes)

I talked to both Bob and Paul. They said that they will gladly bring highly asked about items and maybe some concept items (time permitting) to the RT. We have plenty of room at the hotel for a viewing section. If time allows, product demos might happen too. How many times have you wished you bought something sooner, but you didn't b/c you did not fully understand the product?

Start posting what you want to see at the RT.

I want to see a 4 way tip switcher! I'm not giving up on that!

Let's face it, the end of July is always slow for most of us. Let's get all fired up again and learn some stuff too. What's nice is, when we all go back home, we can apply all this stuff right away! There's still plenty of good working weather after the meeting.

  5. Yeah - I know what you are talking about now - the grill has sat there for a year, since it was built. And when I rolled the grill out of the way - the wood looked brand new under the grill. Even after cleaning - the remainder of the deck never looked the same as the grille area. The stain even looks glossy on that area as well - didn't even dive into the wood.

Probably b/c the wood in that area wasn't weathered as much as the rest of the deck.

Sometimes when you spray the railings from the outside without tarping, you will get a glossy look on the floor near the rails. This basically is a sign of over-application.

  6. Matt, understand that no one is trying to give you a hard time but the majority of the people here make their living from washing. They have professional equipment, spend money on marketing, have the neccessary licenses and insurance and have aspirations to grow their business. I also take what I do very seriously.

Also understand that when someone comes to a board of professionals and the first words out of his mouth are basically "How do I cut corners and buy cheap equipment" we are going to have the hairs on the back of our neck bristled. Do you know why that is, Matt? Because someone willing to cut corners and "get 'er done" also does not take the time to learn how to price, how to market, and how to sell. This person is in a hurry to capture a piece of the pie many of us work hard to cultivate. This peson does not understand how much time and money it takes to operate a successful business and is often the one that canvasses the neighborhood with $99 housewash fliers.

You say you don't want to go from rookie to pro? You don't? The moment you enter the market and start asking to be paid for your service you are playing pro. My advice to you is to slow down, take a week and read as much as you can about pricing, business and marketing. Ask precise questions about what you read versus throwing out blanket questions and expect someone that has earned their stripes to hand everything to you so you can go get 'er done. The world does not work like that.

    Welcome to the board, Matt.

    Well said Ken.
