  1. Ken,

Fair enough. This is a interesting test with a stain manufacturer and yours truly.

Odd thing, the Forest Products Lab has never, in my search, done anything on paraffin oils, but they have certainly warned of potential mold/mildew with linseed oil.

Regardless, if the stain manufacturer has used correct and high quality driers and mold/mildew/fungicides, the oil base should not matter, at least for the short term.

Two years on horizontal wood exposed to direct sun, for semitransparent oils in our climate, is the norm.

I'm almost willing to make book. Wanna' bet?

I completely agree. It's the quality of the resins, mildew/fingicides and driers.

  2. The 200 series has a much higher solid content which is better for the woods longevity Great for porous wood (cedar shakes). On newer wood it would be more difficult to use. You can see the great results " BDA Shane" get's with BGA. IN fact similar to TWP's products. Ready Seal would be a good choice also. These products are the best for wood preservation and ease of application ( and maint.)

Tex, I thought your post was funny until I saw your web site and Ken's. You all sell product's !!!!!

Hey there. Sorry to bother you but it looks as if I have caused a stir. Last week I fired a guy and he took my laptop with him with all my passwords to different sites. He has threatened to do things to harm my company. I have changed my password on this site and others. His name is Robert Hollie if he ever pops up on here. Again sorry for the post and sorry to Bakers Grey Away. I do sell products on my site but again thats not the way I do business.

    Sincerely sorry!

  3. Hey everyone! My company manufactures exterior oil-based semi-transparent wood stain. It has been through accelerated testing and is showing to last longer than the one's we tested against. Since I am a member of this site and "LIKE IT ALOT", I will offer all members our stain at $19.95 per gallon. If you would like, I will give you 10% off the first order so you can see how great the product is. Call me or reply if you have questions.

  4. I had a question for the VETERANS out there. I have been doing exterior wood restoration (staining/sealing/cleaning/repairs) for about 6 months now. What is the absolute best way to advertise for this business? What did you all do 6 months into the start of your business (PLEASE DON'T SAY...STARVE) :) I use internet marketing and direct mail ads. The direct mail ads are not really that cost effective and the inetrnet marketing just isn't enough. Thanks!!
