Last year was our first year and we did 32 deck with Ready Seal. One of the selling points I use is that our stain does not need to be stripped off when we come back for maintenance coat in 2 years. My question is if customer waits longer to do maintenance coat, say like 3-5 years, at that point does it need to be stripped, or does a good cleaning suffice before recoat?

Hi,
My question is especiallyfor the woodies, how do you schedule around the weather and keep busy. It seems to me that if you typically wait 2 dry days before sealing, its very hard to stain alot of decks. What am i doing wrong, or is this just part of it, and sometimes you just need to keep on pushing it off. I currently have 4 large decks waiting to be stained (after having cleaned them), and i cant seem to get to staining them. Please any input would be great, as i am lossing my mind. Thanks.

I need some info. I dont have my own water tank yet. My question is, can i take customers that have water wells? are there some wells that are ok, and some not? Thanks for any input.

Thanks Rod! I acctually figured it had something to do with unseen mildew growth. I greatly appreciate the clarity. This also impresses on me the importance of doing a very thorough cleaning before sealant. Thanks

It seems that your saying the issue is an accumilation of surface dirt. If so, then are we just talking about a pw rinse, or do you need to clean/nuetralize?

Hi,
What is the best way to explain to a customer why a brand new deck/fence needs to go thru wash/nuetralize process before sealing. After all wood is not grey yet, and there is no sign of mildew yet?

Thanks for sending me to Tom Vogel. I went out out to visit him today, and he is a pleasure to talk to. He really knows it all, and he is very patient with newbies. He mentioned that he might even have some sort of educational workshop for newbies this February. I will stay connected with him, and will very likely get some equipment from him

Thank you very much for this info. I am staining my brother-in-laws deck on friday. I hope it comes out nice, since he has alot of neighbors checking it out.
As an aside, I am wondering how the pros here feel about TWP 1500. I am using trying it out this week. It seems like alot of the pros here go with Anderson Clark.

Hi, I currently do interior wood restoration and floors, and I want to switch over to exterior wood restoration (much less competition). My questions are many, but i will start with just a few.
1) it seems that this line of business is only 3 seasons. what do you do during the winter months to supplement income? (i am referring to those that market themselves as exterior wood restoration professionals, not just general Power Washers) ?
2) I need some direction as far as what equipment i should invest in: I want a good pump sprayer (brand?), and a good PW (brands? PSI? GPM? etc...) mainly for decks and fences (can i get a good one for $700-$1000?)
3) I practiced on a couple decks at cost(friends & family) and i am wondering if there are any tricks to doing spindles, or is it meant to be hard and very time consuming?
I will leave it at that for today. I would greatly appreciate any info, help, and tips for someone who is just starting out.

Thanks Beth. I know you mostly use AC. how much more time would my customers get from it? I might give it a try this season. And with the ready seal are you saying that whats left needs to be stripped?
