  1. that's what I thought. I'm hoping I can steer the customer to washing and reapplying some more stain.
  2. I had a customer call me about cleaning and resealing her deck. Currently she has an oil based semi transparent stain. She asked me about using Lowes Deck Restore. I've never put anything on the floor of a deck other than stain. Have any of you guys ever used this product? If so what are your thoughts on it? I'm wondering... how does it keep from blistering and/or peeling, since its like a thick paint with sand in it. Thanks for any input. If there is already a thread on this product, I apologize, I must have over looked it.
  3. Well I gave the lady a bid on washing her home and the first thing she asked about was getting a quote for sparkle washing. I couldnt laugh because I didnt want to offend her. She said that the realtor recommended it. Long story short I got the job and will sparkle wash it of Friday.
  4. I'd never heard of sparkle washing either. I'm going by tomorrow to price it and I'll ask her again what the realtor suggested and see if she understood him correctly. Maybe he said a soft wash. I got her as a lead thru Home Advisor (Service Magic) and come to think of it on her submission form she specifically asks for a sparkle wash. I'll find out more tomorrow.
  5. I had a customer call me and ask for a quote on sparkle washing her house. She said her realtor suggested sparkle washing before she puts it on the market. I said sure I'll come by on Monday and price it. In this area most houses are vinyl so most of my house washes are for vinyl siding and usually those with wood siding are wanting it washed and stained. This particular house is wood siding and all she wants is a wash. Whats a good mix for washing the house that wont cause it to fade?
  6. Yea a lot of the strippers that are powder based say to mix in warm water. Having a good sander on hand is a life saver too. Fortunately on this deck I'm tearing out all of the flooring, steps, and cap rails and replacing with pressure treated wood. All of the vertical wood will get a solid stain since it's already got solid on it and all of the horizontal wood will get semi trans of course.
  7. Well the customer wants all new wood laid on the floors of both decks in the rear of the house with a semi trans applied after the new wood cures and the same for the 8x12 on the front of the house. I'm so glad that I dont have to fight stripping that old stain/paint off. Once I finish the project I'll post pics.
  8. Appreciate all the good info on the stripper. I didnt realize you could add antifreeze.
  9. After going back over the photos I took of this deck, I'm thinking about giving the customer 2 quotes. 1 quote would be for cleaning/stripping, brightening, and reseal with a semi trans. The other quote will be for replacing all of the horizontal wood, washing, and then maybe apply 2 coats of solid on all of the vertical wood and semi trans on the floor, cap on the rails, and steps. I'd rather do that than have to fight to get the paint off of the floors. When I was looking at the deck I mentioned to the customer that, that might be a good option since some of the wood is cupping on some of the butt joints and splitting away from the nails and he said that would be fine because he wants it to not only look good but also to be done right. If I give him two options he can decide which one he wants to go with. If he was wanting to fix it up to sell I'd just try to strip and reseal but he wants to keep this house as his home. Plus if we replace the flooring and cap rails we'll use deck screws as opposed to nails. We'll see how it goes.
  10. Yea I figured I'd try the Rip It and deffinitely brighten afterward and then apply the Ready Seal. Once the customer okays it I'll place an order with SunBrite they are good people to deal with. They also have a product called DRP and your're supposed to be able to apply it to wet wood but I'm gonna stay with what I've used before and maybe try to get a sample of the DRP later.
  11. Should call it How to Rip and Stain Wood! Probably a low baller too. Some people just make you want to shake your head.
  12. There it is. Any thoughts on a stripper product for the deck. I thought about using Rip It and probably will have to do some sanding to get it all off.
  13. Thanks Seymore. I filled in the signature but it still isnt showing up on my posts.
