My first impression of WTW
yazbird8 replied to Jarrod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I received the pads and used them the last couple days. I like them. They hold a good amount of stain and there is minimal dripping when transfering from bucket to the deck. It covers three 6" boards of the deck nicely and I get about a 8-10 ft length before redipping the pad, all in about 10 seconds. That is unless the wood is real thirsty. You can move along at a nice pace and it's comfortable ergonomically . After I covered the section I went back over it crosswise quickly to help the stain cover between the boards. It might not work well if the deck has a lot of cupping. I had some boards that were cupped and used the outside edge of pad to fill in. It held up really well on the decks I did but could tear up the fibers on the pad if the decking is in really bad shape. Overall I really like it and if I can get a bunch of decks done with one pad it is well worth the price to me to replace them at 13 bucks...I used Readyseal.....You will still need to cut in around edges but it gets super close...... I'd say since his performance was good up till today keep him for now... Let him build a mini track record of screw-ups before you let him go..Call this one "strike one".....Sometimes they could strike out on just two pitches..If he is good and responsible for the next month or so I would take his strike away and call him a keeper and give him a $100 bonus to take his girl out for dinner..Employees love being appreciated.......At least he called..Some don't..... How do I undo the springy things that hold the pool cover in place? How do I stretch them back on when I finish cleaning?..I popped a few off today by using a screw driver but that can't be right.... Usually they are off when I clean but the owner asked me if I knew how to remove them....Naturally I said yes....... Stephen Andrews Power Washing Home & Property Care & Maintenance

Stick to your guns my man..If the work keeps coming in at your prices then it's just a matter of time before you are the only game in town...Great work carries with it lots of references and repeat business....Your competition can't afford to do great work at their prices..They will be on the bread line before you know it and you will be running the show in your area..There is no substitute for quality workmanship, or a satisfied customer.... My bid made customer faint
yazbird8 replied to Coastal Painter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I personally break each job into 1/2 day increments. One 1/2 day equals 4 hours. If I think a strip/ seal job is going to take me 22 hours I round up to 24 hours. It's my job to get that part right through experience. I have a set fee per hour. I then simply tell my cusomer the price and let them know that the materials will be added to the bill. If the stripper/citrolic/stain costs me 200 dollars (guesstimate) I add 50 dollars to the bill for retail to customer. As long as I present myself well and show them my book of quality before and after photos most estimates should go smoothly...And I also believe the customer MUST be at every estimate I do. I just purchased a thickening agent (Hang-Time) for my stripper mix. I am frustrated with trying to get the verticals stripped on decks. The stripper runs off (no cling) or dries way to fast for me...Do thickeners really help/work?. Can others share there experiences using thickeners?....... Stephen Andrews Power Washing

yazbird8 replied to yazbird8's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Ok...Mix Hang Time with water first, then dump in the powdered F-18 stripper and stir....Thanks Russ Stephen Andrews Power Washing -
Hang-time
yazbird8 replied to yazbird8's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
The Hang-Time directions say to mix with water first.. I have about 3 gallons of F-18 stripper in a 5 gallon container (already mixed with water)...Has anyone tried putting the Hang-Time into a batch of stripper with success?...I want to try this stuff out tomorrow...... The long tube should work just fine..It's real cheap at Home Depot Or Lowes. Buy a long piece of tube and see what happens...If there is a problem with draw, cut some off and save it...The X-Jet is just fine for your needs...... Stephen Andrews Power Washing
