An idea for removing latex paint from decks
Roger Oakley replied to plainpainter's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I thought Hot water for wood was a no no? Scalding hot water even more so? If I'm wrong then I stand corrected. -
Scott I have sent Bob an email re your pm. T-shirts now ordered :D
-
I guess another way to look at it is, would you pour hot water on your car/truck windscreen if it was covered in ice? I know I wouldn't.

I'm just waiting for the PWM trousers to be advertised as well, as I'm naked at the moment, LOL

What Grade of Gasoline do you use
Roger Oakley replied to Aplus's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I run, what we call Unleaded, I think you guys call it Regular? And now the price difference. A gallon of Unleaded over is about £4.30 GBP which works out to be about $8.20 USD a gallon. Roger -

UK Teak clean & Seal
Roger Oakley posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Some before, prep, and after photos of a set of Teak Furniture I finished today. These are just of the table. But the chairs look good too. Owner is over the moon with the results, and I feel pretty pleased with the out-come too. Before photo is not great, taken on Thursday morning 08:00 pouring with rain dark horrible weather over here at the moment. Roger -
UK Teak clean & Seal
Roger Oakley replied to Roger Oakley's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I washed with a pressure washer too. I did re-seal by hand though (brush). You can wash 6 chairs and a table in an hour !! and two hours to sand & seal this lot, Wow I must be really slow :lgbounces. Roger -
UK Teak clean & Seal
Roger Oakley replied to Roger Oakley's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hi Barry, It took about 3 hours to wash and citric 6 chairs and the table. 1 day to sand and stain the chairs, and about 4 hours to sand and stain the table. I used Cabots ATO (natural). All done by hand/brush. This might seem a long while? I had to move everything into owners garage to dry-out and then prep as the rain over here at the end of last week was a pain. So a bit tight for space. -
Cheers Mathew, I may well come over to the States for one of these round-table meetings one day. Just to busy at the moment. I haven't been to the States for years, I used to work out there a lot in the late seventies and eighties. Was based in New York for months. Roger

Hello Mathew, I charge all my work by the square metre, (everybody does over here) so a ballpark figure for say for a maintenance wash on a deck, £3.50 per sq.mt = about $6.00 us dollars per square metre. Stripping would cost extra as would seal or staining. If it's any use a square metre is about 10 square foot. This might be cheap by USA standards, but it is still pretty new to some home owners over here (decking maintenance etc). Trying to lead the way though. Roger

BIG Ipe project
Roger Oakley replied to RogerG's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hi Roger, Only just seen this thread, it look's fantastic mate, great job!!!!! Roger -
I see what you are saying about the top left hand photo guys, the shadow is only on the clean-side (right) the left-hand side is not in shadow, it was that dirty. Trying to get photos with the same light, different time of day etc is a real pain. Might have to find a different set of before and afters, leaflet is still in the design/proof stage. Roger

Jetty deck clean on an Island
Roger Oakley posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Just finished a Jetty deck clean, the usual ridged type that we have here in the UK, so here are the before & after photo's. For anyone that viewed the fence clean thread I did the other week, will know what I mean about the Island. This time I had to take all P/W kit over the foot-bridge, down the rickety path, across the stones (all loose) path, then the grass to get to the Jetty. No truck access what so ever on this property. Nearly an hour to unload & set-up, about an hour or so to pack away at the end of the day. Rained all day, but oh well, client very happy as their young son had been running around on the decking and had fallen into the river Thames due to slipping on the algae etc. -
