pulling from a water tank
Don L replied to TalcottPressureWashing's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Lyn, I don't use tanks yet,but the gentleman who taught me the trade, has one.I am no authority,by any means, but I am quite sure that if you set your tank plumbing so that your outlet is at the the lowest point in the tank,it will gravity feed.Essentially providing you with a "pressure pump".Wait and see who else posts-I could be wrong, but if not someone that has more tech knowledge will be able to provide more details. -
Ok, I repeate myself when under stress...I repeate myself when under stress... I thought I lost my origional post,so I re...tar..posted.My apologies for any undue confusion.

Hey Jeff, You are probably dealing with a degree of what is called "corrosion".There are 3 grades of this ,caused by chemicals residue, but more commenly caused by runoff from the building,or hard water. This could be simply rain,or ,as suggested, sprinklers. I don't know how you are cleaning the windows, but if you are using window cleaning tools, you should feel a drag on your tools.Does it look like you didn't clean it right after you cleaned it?If these are so ,you are dealing with,at least, stage 1 corrosioin. The suggestions for brushing are probably valid, with all due respect for the advocates of this method,I would suggest a chemical solution, that would completely restore the glass surface. It is called Crystal Clear 550.I buy it through http://www.racenstein.com/ I bought a gallon 4 yrs ago and have plenty left.It is 1 application with 0% dwell time, then clean the window. If you have any questions you may call me @315.549.8448,or simply post on the board, and I will follow up.lol... By the way,I suggest that you lose the dawn.Find Parsons Sudsy ammonia, mix 6 oz with 4-5 gal of h2o.Play with the mix,it is dependant upon water hardness...etc.Mix it to the point that the squgee smoothly glides on the glass.Dawn is a heavy soap, too much and you will leave plenty behind.Let me know if this is any help.

have I encountered such assininity.I got a call to a mall store from a gc asking me to bid a window cleaning.I get on site, and find out that this is not really a window cleaning.I was presented with a mall store front,104x10,61 commercial panes, that have been completely covered in window tint adhesive!!!How can humans that moronic pull off the act of breathing!!!Anyhoo..Did chem test(scrapeing alone ...no freaking way.)Tried krudkuttr..didn't touch it.Got best result from 70% iso.alchol.It took 45 min to properly clean a freaking sq.ft!Still had to razor it HARD.I detest turning down biz,but unless somebody's got something that will turn this adhesive into butter,I may(gak...)have to pass via $$$$$$$$$ bid. Please keep in mind, brushed alum. mullions(frames).I do not want to use a petro based solvent...water sol is the ticket. As usual, this is a "is it done yet?"situation.Good news is that Nike will be footing the bill, but they still have projected budget.Anyone with some knowledge would be MUCH appreciated.

Greasy film around outside perimeter of glass
Don L replied to Mark Gallison's topic in Window & Gutter Cleaning
Mark G, I am not sure whether youre dealing with silicone residue,or some other adhesive/sealer.You can try wetting window with a solution of Parson's Sudsy ammonia, and water(1 cup of parsons to about 2.5 or 3 gallons of water). Then take a 4 in. window cleaning razor, with a new blade!,and scrape the residue down to the edges. Another option is to use dlimeonene on a clean rag,rub on the substance, razor off(always wet before scraping),then clean with above mentioned solution.Be sure to flood any place you've applied dlimeonene,if not it will comprimise any rubber seal used in the window. You can also remove those finger prints you spoke of on the mullions w/dlimeonene.It is great.Russ Johnson turned me on to it,and I am very thankful.I have been a window cleaner for 22 yrs.lol -
Russ, thanks a lot.Job is done.dlimeonene worked great. It trashed two squegee blades, wrinkled them up,made them longer! It is not rubber/plastic friendly,as most solvents. Thanks again for the new tool.

Russ, Thank yu sir!!It rocks.Like butter.I'll keep you posted on outcome. Again, thanks a million!

Estimates - how do you handle them?
Don L replied to Beth n Rod's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I would like some help defining terms."Free estimate".When I respond to a call for an estimate,if the owner is there, great! If they are not present, phone work is fine.Word's can be deceiving, but a great deal of character can be reveled through conversation.Phrases, pattern of speech..,but,this isn't Vegas. The lack of customer contact(face to face) is simply a circumstance. Yes it cost's a great deal more today than it did years ago.I view the free estimate as your opportunity to sell your company. It is an investment. You lay your knowledge, and your repuation on the line, everytime. The reward is the contract, the job.The public perception of the company(i.e. the customer). What do you do?Advertise free estimates, but build them into your prices? This is a problem.Minimum charges are a must today.Fuel is the first thing that comes to mind, but how many times has the bid process turned into a job itself? You don't hand the a customer for a bill for the bid,so is it free.I tend to lean towards Rod and Beth's assessment concerning the life span of the free estimate.I also liked the concept of waiving the bid fee if job is sold,Fair, gives you a little cya, gives the potential customer(potential advertiser) a way out,and weeds out the folk's that just want to chat.Great thread. I believe that every situation is unique. It rest's upon the decision of the estimator. It is an art,as well as measurement. I would be interested in hearing your views. What say you? -
P Pro wash, It is written..."with God ,all things are possible"This is as real as it gets.Expect miracles! No mater what happens, remember that "all things work together for good to those who love God,and are called according to His purposes"."...for who has known the mind of God?.."My brother,I won't pretend to know what will pass with your beloved daughter, but I do know that our God will never leave you,or forsake you.We have an adversary that walks about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.Don't let your emotions,or the world feed you their fear.Walk in the peace that passes ALL understanding.Put on the whole armor of God,and remember..."the effectual ferverent prayer of a rightous man availeth much(makes strong much). It is not us,but the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that we are made whole in.We will pray without ceasing.Keep us posted.

Don, As far as I can tell, and I have never waxed a house,no matter what you use ,a house with those issues needs to be pw'd at least every 2 yrs.Of course it may depend on siding(viny,alum...),but your buds might be involved in a tad of hyperbole.Somebody let me know if I am wrong. Thanks
-
jhignutt, What are you washing?Vinyl, alum, wood? If it's alum,or vinyl,I have had great sucess with Parson's sudsy ammonia.Half pint to 5 gal.of h2o.Cleans great, doesn't stain or spot glass leaves a great shine on vinyl.Rinse well.Just my 1.5 cent. What's up with your sig? I don't understand why the SH ?Could you tell me why you use it please?Git er done.

Barry M I would suggest Unger extension poles.I have been a window cleaner for 20+ yrs.I have used several different brands and in my opinion,Unger is the most durable, and versatile.Visit this site www.jracenstein.com .Great selection, you can choose what you would prefer

Palmetto, So much has to do with your temprament. How much stress can you cope with? Can you deal with the variable income? What debt load needs to be serviced?Lots of questions...I don't recommend this, but 5 yrs ago I decided it was time to build. For the last years I have had to supplement with "filler work",but this year will be banner. Now I also have window cleaning, office janitorial accounts, but they both lead to PW income BIGTIME.I haven't had a regular JOB for 5 yrs,and the biz is growing. It is a tough call.Don't think I am a young single guy either.43,5 beloved children, and a beloved wife.It has been a tough road, but I am still in biz,and growing! It all boils down to what your willing to deal with.Keep your chin up,and decide. Fear is your greatest enemy, wisdom, your greatest ally.Git er done!!!!

Mas3372, I am new to biz myself,so take this with a grain of salt.I do some house washing, and on vinyl I use Parsons Sudsy ammonia(half pint to 5 gal water) alot.I am in upstate NY,deal with mold, mildew quite often, and with hot water,5/3500 machine,40 deg tip,can whack(no splash and dash, clean work) a 2 story like your speaking of,with attched garage,in 2 hrs ,or less. That is working off a ladder.(That's going to end very soon,x-jet ,or ex.wand)It will be even faster then.Looks like a paint job, shiney too.Unorthidox, but it works. No window stains,no plant/grass death..like butter.Who knows who will be laughing...but simply my 2 cents. Git er done!Right to the bank!
