Long story, short. I sold my trailer (3500 psi 4 gpm) and went to work for a company. Lets say the time has arrived where I find myself fondly remembering being a small business owner. In the past, I did mostly tile roofs and drive ways combos. My process, pre historic to most, was to run chlorine through my machine, along with TSP and most times, take my whisper wash and clean the top parts of the tiles, change to wand and do the edges. 99% of my business was tile roofs. Did like 4 shingle roofs in 5 years. The questions/advice needed are these: 1. What kind of set up do I need to clean shingle roofs in an efficient and economical manner? Will this work on tile roofs as well? Chemicals? 2. I went through Bob at Pressure Tek for years, do you think he is still the cheapest and dependable for parts and service? Understanding of course, the total responsibility, and wearing 6 different hats at once, there is nothing like being self employed. And as I work the graveyard shift, making very unappreciative bosses money, I am always led back to what got me in business myself " Why make this person money when I could be making myself money?" I really appreciate any and all input. You need great information, you go to the source. Best Regards, Brian

Poll: What type of pressure washing rig do you use?
aloha pc replied to mdspowerwashing's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I apologize, wrong spot. -
Kory, I have seen you around from time to time. I may have even seen you this past Saturday morning at Tampa Road and Lake St. George by the 7-11 Our area is flooded with pressure cleaners. I lost two jobs this week that I had already discounted but because people pick up a flyer found in the front yard, get a bid much cheaper and go with company X. All these people seem to get four or five bids and dont seem to want quality or experience, just the lowest possible price. Frustrates the hell out of me. Plain and simple, our area is flooded.

Aluminum soffit spotting, streaking
aloha pc replied to housedoc's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I love the sofitts, easy money and quick results. I go fifty fity chlorine to water, soak em and watch it drip. If they are bad I will go over them again with the mix then spray them down with my wand off. If they are still dripping dirty and they dry, you got spots though. Chemical does all the work. -
Licensed, Insured AND Worker's Comp?
aloha pc replied to geobet1's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I can tell you first hand, bidding jobs in Florida, its unfortunate, but most only seem to care about the bottom line. A real source of frustration is bidding a roof for 450 only to hear I got a bid already for $200 from so and so. Unfortunate, but many people shut down after hearing a higher price even after discussing exactly why someone would or could give such a ridiculous price. There is not a level playing field, no union and customers will use this as a way to get a bidding war which I dont get into. I always try to get face time with people because I believe I can sell them on my service and let them see how capable I am of cleaning their home. I get alot of calls who tell me to just leave the bid on the door, I'm getting other estimates and we ' ll call you which everyone knows what that means. Lowest bid wins!!!!! -
Way I do them is spray chlorine and run whisper on it, moving it pretty quickly ( wont take much to clean) then use wand or open your valve quarter way to spray away from pool towards the drains.....If you are doing the bird cage, apply chlorine first then do whisper work, wherever the screen is bad, apply again.....easy work and it is a whole lot faster and effective to use whisper rather than wand.

Does anyone know where to get that chem you can get that black stuff off the outside of gutters?

I put a new injector on today and got nothing. I took the injector and attached it to the last fifty feet of my hose and it worked fine. Does it sound like my gun is messed up or something different?
-
Damnest thing! Never had a problem until today. Thought maybe the gun was wasted.
-
Same as always, 200 or 250 feet. The injector failed the other day so I buy a new one. I put it on and start waiting for a nice flow of chlorine and nothing. I 'm puzzled.

yeah, even tried takin the wand off to shoot it straight

Looked at a very nice job today, black roof, will turn out great but she has oil stains in the drive way. I have heard hot water machines wiil take them out but I have a cold water unit. Any ideas?

That looks like sprinkler rust to me, probably from reclaimed water. As far as the painter goes, personally I would not talk with him until job is complete. What stops this guy from under bidding you? I do not bad mouth people because it sounds unprofessional but alot of guys down here do. Perhaps because it is so competitive. That being said, this guy is lookin for extra work, will work cheaper, prefers to clean houses before he does the painting....Just playing devils advocate, just looks like a job you wouldn t want to lose.

I will only stop if I'm on the roof and see lightning. The cutomers never come out of the house so I guess they figure if I dont mind, they dont mind..Sometimes if there is a litte drizzle, it kind of helps by keeping the roof wet and rinsing as I go.
