  1. What is this?

Thanks guys, I'll just give them that link and set their expectations low. Thanks again,
  2. Yeah, I tested it with water and there is no sealer on it. But I'm still wondering what cedar looks like after UV rays get to it, or even what it looks like with RS Natural Cedar on it. If anyone can show me some pics, that would be great. Thanks,
  3. WTW brown sugar?

I would definitely be interested in that, in fact I was even going to do that myself and make it into like a little keyring kind've thing. But, let me know if you are going to do that because that will save me some time. Thanks
  4. I have heard that it is so that you can put WTW on new wood because of the high solids content. I am in the process of negotiating with a deck builder to seal all of his new decks. He is pretty sceptical about how exactly it works. So, I was kind've looking for some technical jargon to throw at him about how and why you can apply WTW to new wood. Thanks a lot,
  5. Hello all, What does everyone who uses WTW do about fuzzies? I mean when it is applied when the wood is wet, obviously there can't be any sanding, so what does everyone do? Thanks
  6. Michigan R T And Demonstration

Let's do it man, my family lives in Lexington and I've even done some work down there for some Wendy's, but I can get you a buddy pass if you need one. Call me if I can help you out. Hopefully I'll be able to make it.
  7. Michigan R T And Demonstration

Jarrod, I know you don't know me, but this sounds fantastic, it sounds like the answers to my questions all in one place. So, pending the price, my partner and I will definitely try to make it. It makes it easier because I work at Comair at night and get free airfare! So let us know what the ballpark cost will be and we'll go from there. Thanks!
  8. Hello all, I had a call today to clean and seal the wooden floor boards on a pull-behind trailer. The guy uses it to transport 4-wheelers, etc. I use mainly ready seal and WTW, but I was wondering if there is something else that maybe I should use to seal it. What does everyone else use for this kind of project or does anyone do this kind of project? Thanks in advance.
  9. Here's my latest deck: Stripped with HD80 - didn't know what was on it Brightened with Citralic Sealed with Natural Cedar Ready Seal The customers are ecstatic - they took my bid, even though I came in at 2 1/2 times the price of the other guys, they are glad they did now.
  10. I think that some of the knowledge out there about Flood products is very dated. Flood was recently bought by Sikens and that is a quality brand. Flood is on the rise as far as sealer technology and quality. Yes, Flood CWF was and is a product that is extremely hard to strip and deal with. However, Flood CWF-UV5 is a good product and is not difficult to strip. I offer FloodPro products as well as RS and sometimes WTW. If someone wants a solid or a semi-transparent, I will use Flood. I'm not criticizing anyone about their opinions, I just feel that some new things are going on and some feelings and knowledge needs to be updated.
  11. Hello all, I've only been in business about 1 1/2 years now, but I feel that I have very well educated myself. I have read countless posts, gotten certified in wood restoration by the pwna, and have saturated my mind with knowledge. I have two main competitors that have been in business for many years now. I recently bid a large deck that both of them had bid as well. The homeowner told me that my price was double that of the other two. I calmly explained to him why; that we completely strip off the old sealer (I guess the other two weren't going to do that), use contractor-grade products, set up maintenance schedules, and care more about quality than quantity. I guess I must have said something right because I got a call from him this morning telling me that I won the contract. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that you have to stick to your prices, if you know what you are talking about, use better products and produce fantastic results, then you are worth your weight in gold to these homeowners. I want to thank everyone for this board, because I would not be where I am today without it. Thanks again,
  12. And here's a couple more......
  13. What the heck, I'll post something. I'm really proud of this piece of work because it was the first deck I ever did. I stripped a failing sealer off with HD-80, then brightened with Citralic, then sealed with Dark Brown ReadySeal. I could've never done it without the help of this forum. I probably am not going to win, but I'll post anyways. Here are a couple of before and afters.
  14. Hey everyone, I've got a deck to do next week that is probably about 15-20 feet off the ground on top of a hill sloping down towards a pool. My question is; how does everyone else approach these kinds of decks? Can I wash the outside and poles from the ground, or do I need a ladder, or a wand extension? What does everyone suggest? Thanks for the replies.
  15. The overspray wasn't really a problem, I just toned the pressure down to about 35 to 50 PSI and went to town. Also, just call Tom Vogel at ACR and he can tell you anything you want to know about the Decker, I think their website is under construction.
  16. Yeah man, I just got my Decker 5'er and I love it. I got it from Tom Vogel at ACR and he is a wealth of information. I chose the Decker over the Deckster because it is black powder coated, came with a better wand, and Tom really stands behind his products and if you have any questions at all, just call him up and ask, no problem. ACR's website is www.acrproducts.com by the way.
  17. Hello all, I am sealing my first deck tomorrow with dark brown ReadySeal and I just have a few last minute questions. First, I heard that it will take two coats, so how long after the first coat is down can I apply the second coat? Second, does everyone spray the spindles, and if so how do you keep overspray to a minimum? I am using a Decker 5'er by the way. Also, what PSI should I spray it with using the Decker? I think that is about it. This first deck has been an adventure. I had to strip Wolman's F&P off of it and brighten it, but it has turned out great. Here's a couple of before pics. Thanks,
  18. Applying ReadySeal?

I'm in Florence, which is 1 hour north of Lexington and about 1 1/2 hours away from Louisville, but I don't really know where Elizabethtown is. See ya
  19. Hello all, I've been doing some reading and I think I may try to attend the Fall Seminar for PWNA and get certified in wood restoration. Is this a good idea, I mean is it worth the money and travel time? Thanks,
  20. Applying ReadySeal?

Okay, back to the original thread, I finished the deck, but when I took the plastic off the brick house, some readyseal had gotten on the brick. I spoke to Pierce with ReadySeal and he said to use Fast Orange hand cleaner, so I am going to try that tomorrow or the next day, but if that doesn't work, does anyone have any other ideas that I may be able to try out? Thanks
  21. Applying ReadySeal?

    And after pics........
  22. I feel like I keep asking dumb questions, but I'll never learn if I don't ask. When you go out and do a test patch to determine if it can be stripped, how do you do it? Do you guys just put some in a spray bottle and put it on, allow it to dwell, and hose it off? Or do I need to scrub it in and pressure wash it off? I know I need to choose an inconspicuous area, but beyond that I don't really know. I am going to test HD-80 and EFC-38 to see which one I can use to strip Wolman's F&P. I appreciate any responses, even though this is a dumb question. Thanks,
  23. Test Patch

Wow, thank you guys so much, I just posted that like 3 hours ago, and I already have this many replies. I can tell you one thing, I would not be going into this business without your help and without this board. Thanks again guys, you answered my question perfectly.
  24. Hello all, I have what seems to be a simple question, but I have yet to find a suitable answer. I am new to deck cleaning and sealing, but I have a deck to do soon that has Wolman's F&P on it. I am going to use HD-80 to strip, but that got me thinking. After I spray off the HD-80, where is it going to go and will it affect grass, etc? Is there a way to recapture the spray-off so that it doesn't run off into the grass, landscaping, etc? How do you guys do it? Thanks for the replies in advance.
  25. HD-80 sprayoff?

Thanks for all the immediate replies, this board is fantastic and a must for every new contractor. Will EFC-38 strip F&P?
