What did you do before becoming a Pw'er?
Integrity Curb Appeal replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Ditto on that. I was surprised to see Michael there that early as well. Most people won't be anywhere that early on a Sunday morning. By the way the pics on Bob's board from that job were great with your new camera. Mike also mirrors the purpose of this board- education. He has taught me alot and has a phenominal grasp on business and marketing. I hope he gets to speak at a roundtable soon, if so...Be SURE to bring a notepad and pen! Thanks Michael -
What did you do before becoming a Pw'er?
Integrity Curb Appeal replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
I started out selling crack in a mall. Oh I meant to say crackers... Sorry I couldn't resist I have a background in restaurants. Got my first real job at 18. Unless you count my paper route. It was a restaurant in a mall. The manager I had was transfering to Cincinnati and I asked how I could get into management and he laughed hysterically. This bothered me, especially since he was the LAZIEST sun of a gun I have ever met. Four years later I had worked my way up to area manager for the chain, then purchased the unit in which I had started. The other guy... he was fired. I operated the restaurant for four years and the mall tripled my rent due to doubling my sales volume. $84.000 a year for 748 sq ft! Being a student of Stephen Covey I took the "Win-win or no deal option". Went back to work for my franchisor as a district manager and oversaw 18 restaurants. Six states and Washington D.C. was the geography. Had a child, downsized the travel and relocated to Lexington KY where the corporate office of Fazoli's is located and have been here for four years. I own rental property as well. I attended a Disney Univerity marketing class, and even got to speak at Disney on sales building to all the leaders in my past organization due to my success with them. It was about 1000 people, that was a BLAST! I received several great career offers that week. I have also been certified in "7 Habits of Highly Effective People", "Business Think" & "Franklin Coveys- "What Matters Most". I have also had the opportunity to teach success classes and mentor others. My personal mission statement is "To help those whom I lead to succeed". Pressure Washing has become my escape zone. It is the time when I can just relax and have quiet time, (from voices anyway). I don't know if I could see myself going full time anytime soon, perhaps in a few years. -

New Honda engine technology
Integrity Curb Appeal posted a topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I copied the following from the Honda engines website. The standard for general purpose engines has just been raised with Honda's innovative iGX Series, a new generation of intelligent computer-controlled general purpose engines. For the first time in power equipment history, these engines feature an integrated electronic control unit that communicates with the application to achieve optimal performance. With their multi-function, high-performance design, iGX series is the ultimate choice for a wide range of commercial and residential power equipment applications. Applications: • Pressure washers that automatically start or stop when the user squeezes or releases the trigger handle. • Water Pumps that can be automatically activated based on water level by remote switch. • Lawn mowers that can automatically vary engine speed based on load so the engine does not slow in thick grass. • Generators that can automatically start when required and vary engine speed based on electrical draw. Could you imagine the savings in fuel, maintainance, and equipment life? With the pump sensor you could use inexpensive trash pump for water evacuation. Good stuff Honda... -
No says you must speak/read Spanish. Everything is still in English. No reason for that to bother anyone. The rest (90%) of the world is taught English in their schools. I am glad when I visit other countries. It is hospitable. As for Lowe's/HD. I am sure it is because they purchase enough products to earn the right to have their language.

What is Barlox, and what is it's value? -
I have many friends that are evangelists, they go to other countries, live in tents and serve others. Let's just notice that the crooked ones in the limelight are the ones that are noticed due to the fame factor. Most of the true evangelical Christians, are evangelizing with their lives, not on TVs. They give, and give, and give, no matter the cost. I currently know several people personally that amaze me at how selflessly they serve others. In the past I judged God by the people you speak of. Now I know I was wrong to do so. Otherwise I could judge the United States by Clinton or Bush, Corporations by Enron, Germans by Hitler, tv cooks by Martha Stewart, and so on. For every good representation of any ggod thing, you will find something to tear it down. Why? Because most of us humans try to find out "what can I get out of it". We all screw up. The difference is just the degree, and whom sees us screw up. Just wanted to make this point to anyone whom ever reads this post now and in the future.

Is it catchy, or a waste of money to print? I know it's a different approach. Shoot me straight please. If its a dumb ad, tell me before I waste print and postage. Scott intpsipostcrd.pdf

buying new pump - need some advice
Integrity Curb Appeal replied to Curb Appeal's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I disagree that this will severly limit your flatwork. I am running a GP 2011 at 2300 psi and 4.75gpm hot water and I zip through flatwork with no problem. The GPM is your friend, and will come in handy for house washes. The little time you lose, if any on concrete will be easily made up on housewashes. Houses, decks, etc will be low pressure, with high GPM for speed. Raise your GPM even if it costs you some PSI. I could change a pulley on my machine and lower GPM to 4 and up PSI to 3500, but choose not to. Just my .02. -

Thoughts on a post card design...

It was for commercial business, It was specifically designed with restaurants in mind. I think you guys are correct. Thanks, for the honesty. As for the concept, I want to give someone a slam-dunk... I need this service. ____________________________________ Perhaps a pic of someone getting spanked with a big paddle... And the text reads something like... Do you remember the last time your boss reamed you for the sidewalks, and the points you lost for the trash coral on your last health inspection. What about the time the CEO visited, and told you to invest in a scraper for the gum on the sidewalk? You have too much to do already to have to worry about doing these things yourself. One call stress reduction! We'll get 'em off your back 555-5555 Free estimates. ____________________________________ I guess what I am trying to do is be forward, leave a memory by touching on an emotional spot to why this needs done, but not tick someone off at the same time. I guess I could have a few of something like this printed just for the really dirty restaurants. -

Just curious/ deck restore time
Integrity Curb Appeal posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I know this is vague, but I am curious, as I am very new to wood restoration. I am cleaning 5 decks on the back of 5 townhomes. The total sqft is 2041 (408 sqft each) including All surfaces, rails, steps spindles etc on second level over parking lot. How many man hours each would you expect for cleaning/nuetralizing if you sent out a 2 man crew (mediocre experience) with 2 PW machines (day1), and 1 deckster for Ready Seal (day 2). I know there are many variables, but just a rough guess. -
Nuetralizing with oxalic?? Woodies help please.
Integrity Curb Appeal posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I mostly do flatwork but am restoring a deck next week. I have alot of oxalic on hand and was going to mix 4oz per gallon to nuetralize F10. The decks are over a blacktop parking area and the townhomes are vinyl. How much potential do I have for brighteneing the blacktop etc? It will be difficult to rinse the blacktop alot, or should I nuetralize with something else. I would prefer to have something that offers the least margin of error, and safety during use than save a few bucks. With that said, If presoaking blacktop, and using pump-up other than sure-flo will work o.k. I stick with it. I also remember reading somewhere that bleach did not need be nuetralized, is this true? The wood is PTP and about 2 years old with no sealer. It is about 12 ft off of the ground. I will be staining with RS. Thanks, for your help, I just don't want to screw up on my first big deck job. New Competition
Integrity Curb Appeal replied to Mathew Johnson's question in Residential Pressure Washing
James, I didn't know you were only joking! As I have always been a good student, I always follow a god example. That said, I followed your lead this morning and got shot... Twice! I ran, and the cops got me. I had the bottle of Colt 45, and they arrested me. Thankfully, my wife brought my laptop to the jailhouse, so I could warn the other newbies not to try this marketing campaign. Excuse me a moment, gotta run... Here comes Bubba! This is the niche I am interested in, do you mind if I give you a call sometime with a few questions? Ifyou don't mind, when is a good time to call? Thanks, Scott

Nozzle change causing pulse (same size nozzles)
Integrity Curb Appeal posted a topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I tried my new turbo nozzle on my 4.5 gpm @ 3000 machine and got pulsing. The nozzle is a 4.5 as are my normal tips. No issue with my normal tips. Any thoughts. I did a search and came up with nothing that was closely similar. The turbo seems clear of debris, it is brand new and has a filter. Same thing with the older turbo. I just got this machine yesterday and it works great with the regular nozzles. Thanks in advance for your opinions. Scott
