I ordered 2 55 gal drums of a product called XY12 from my local supplier. He told me that it is 12% SH and he orders it from ECOLAB, all the time for hotels etc... The supplier is a very reputable company here so I had no worries. $350.00 later I receive 2 drums labeled XY12 delivered to my warehouse. So of course I am happy.... well that is until I read the fine print on the label which read " minimum available Sodium Hypochlorite = 8.4%.???????? So I call my supplier and he tells me that he contacted the lab and they told him that, that is the minimum but it really is 12%. Because of safety issues they cannot label it 12%, because 12% is unstable. I told him that that sounds strange to me and that I want a refund or replacement. Can anyone share any similar experiences or recommendations

Pressure washing........are we really professional contractors? Well I certainly think so and I am sure that everyone who reads this will agree with me, whether it is practiced full-time are just to generate residual income. But if we all believe this.... lets truly practice it. Disclaimer: This is only my opinion and should be taken in context; I readily stand to be corrected and do not intend to offend anyone. This site is great and without it probably wouldn’t have ventured into the type business, which I am happy I did. Besides that I am only 26 years old and probably have a lot to learn, I am new to the business and am still a newbie on the site trying to increase my post numbers :) . Anywhoooo......................... :rant: There are numerous threads sharing notes on equipment, Chems, process etc..., excellent! But threads on administrative, legal, business model, finances, management etc... are limited. Notwithstanding that legalities vary from jurisdiction - could we put some more focus on "professionalizing" our businesses and industry? Why this topic? I needed help recently but couldn’t find exactly what I needed. So instead of just coming on here and begging, thought I would post my thoughts, then beg! :lgangel: I read a post long time ago on another site where a guy commented on observing a guy whose setup was a 5hp 1.5GPM HD PW in the trunk of a Nissan Sunny, who charges the same as him. He commented that he had better equipment on a custom built rig, and hated little fly by night operations like the Nissan Sunny guy. Here is food for thought, is he any better than the fly by night guy if he has a comprehensive rig setup but a business that is inefficient in its operations and management? - The clichéd all braun no brains jock! Could the Nissan sunny guy get the job over me and my "big rig"- if he prepared a detailed proposal, outlining works to be performed, additional recommendations & freebees, basic details of chems used and precautions if any, OSHA or similar compliance, customer protection details, estimate timeframe (including factors that may increase that time) and his understanding of the customers expectations... ... remember its not always size that matters-MAKES SENSE! (Yes I know this is not always practical, but things like these should be more the rule and not the exception.) There are several accomplished contractors around who have mastered running their business professionally. But not all of us are so inclined without a little help. LETS SHARE and post more Administrative and Operational docs and not just email them to specific persons. Anything you have- experiences, info, drafts, sample templates, links sites, to address etc... Well unless Beth and Rod say we can’t:) Being in a competitive environment I for one am keen on leaving that lasting impression. I will use my own advice and post what I have in this area from this point on. With hopes that everyone else will as well, which will in turn remove the thought of "are they really professionals" from our minds.:yoda: Now for the begging :) - any help on compiling a comprehensive proposal?

We have recovered fairly well and construction is on the boom! There are still some homes that have not been repaired and a considerable amount of people now living in trailers, but if you visit again you would never tell that we were devestated like we were.

I agree that to copy and paste is crazy, simply because I would not have the foundation to understand what I am doing are why I am doing it. We have been given the oppurtunity to bid on cleaning the windows on this building. They only want the exterior 2nd storey windows cleaned. I have only done windows on residential but have added them in with the house wash. I would appreciate some help on pricing this job. There are 98 windows that need to be cleaned. Can somebody define "pane" is it the amount of sections per frame? Have read many posts and none are clear. more pics to come Thanks Much JJ

Does anyone use Hydrogen peroxide for cleaning? What is it good for, if anything? My uncle has a 55 gal drum of HP which he was using for cleaning blinds. He does not need it anymore and is willing to give it to me. I am not sure of the concentration %. Can I use it?

I an attempt to cut my overhead as much as possible, I have decided to use water from a drilled "deep well " in my back yard. This is an endless supply of clear natural spring water, these are very common and legal in my area. My only concern is - should I add some additive to the water before I start spraying it on people's homes???? A cup or two of bleach to a couple hundred galons??? Thanks,

This is true- never thought of that, and I guess that would be the same for any possible contaminents that would be in the untreated water as well.

Thanks, Not sure I'm understanding you... The $s' that I mention are paid to the local water company for personal consumption. I do not pay anything for the water from my well, and there is already a pump and tank plummed to it. In regards to paying to treat- Ultimately I was wondering if there is a need to treat before using it. If not I would just pump from the well to my tote-tank and go.

Hello, Hello, Hello, I am in the process of designing my business modle, and have finally decided to post this question after exhausting my search through many of your informative threads. Where I am located- about 70% of the homes and building's exteriors are finished with Stucco or similar texture. Because of our humidity there is a fair share of mildew growth, there is also a lot of efflorescence and dirt accumulation. I cannot seem to find a definite or quasi-confident commercial grade mixture recommendation for cleaning these surfaces, therefore I am - "Stuck on Stucco"... get it? Yeah corny I know. I was told that a 50/50 5% with some TSP should work,... tried it, IT DOESN’T. Have been told to swap 5% for 12%, have not tried it yet, but should I be concerned with fading dark coloured surfaces, or the painted ones??? Sorry for the long Post, just wanted you all to know where I am coming from. Thanks for your advice in advance. JJ
