cedar siding

Question

A customer has their 2nd floor covered w/ cedar siding. They want the cedar lightened up. After 19 yrs, it has become pretty dark. What do you suggest

Do a test area with some cleaner or stripper to see what needs to be done.DId they say if it was sealed with anything?

You probally seeing dirt and mildew from being so dark.

Cedar will turn darker in areas as it ages and wears. When we see cedar has gotten to this point we usually recommend an oil base semi finish. This will even out the appearance much better. The alternative is applying a sealer that will accentuate the imperfections and you may end up with a blotchy appearance.
