amorak 14 Report post Posted May 29, 2012 Hi everyone, I sanded and painted my pressure treated cedar deck last year - coated it with Cabot's Australian Oil. It's in need of a maintenance coat this year (11 months from last coat) after sitting with snow on it for 6 months here in Canada. Do I need to sand it, or just wash it and coat over top? Thanks! 0 David Phillips 14 Report post Posted June 1, 2012 With the Timber Oil, there shouldn't be any sanding needed. Just give it a light cleaning with a percarbonate wood cleaner or a weak bleach/water mixture to remove any mold, mildew or dirt, lightly pressure wash, then re-stain after it has thoroughly dried. This is the only application in my opinion where bleach should be used on wood. If you still have protective stain in the wood, bleach will do a safe job of killing any mold spores on the surface without harming the wood.
