White streaks on red brick.

Question

I have to bid on a red brick home with white streaks on it. The home is about 1 to 2 years old. What chem will effectivly remove the white streaks with out damage to the color or surface of the brick? Thanks in advance, Jarrod

Jarrod,

Is it what we call Efflorescence? Like a white powdery substance.

We get it sometimes on bricks and pavors over here (UK), I don't know if this web link will help, www.pavingexpert.com/eff01.htm but it explains how to deal with it, but at the end of the day it will keep on returning after a while.

do the white streaks fade if you wet them ?? if so it is probaly efforesence.....if they do not disapear it will probably be lime off the morter(mud 2 u).check the above sites for chems to use.....also sometimes there can be painted bordings above the brickwork and this canrun onto the brickwork.

always post a couple of pictures as this nearly alwaysgives more pointers than a few words....hth
