  1. Matt, Real nice lake front property, a window cleaner's dream. Real nice job. That is a whole lot of wood but the prep looks fairly easy. Don't know spit about house washing and pricing, but it would seem you will be well compensated, certainly for the wood.
  2. Celeste,

The call was on my business answering machine when I got in late this afternoon. Called Jennifer back and spoke at some length.

Some rain spots and the contractor sounds like he over applied the Cabot's stain. She thinks it is an oil, so told her about turpentine or Wil Bond to get rid of and even out the tacky areas.

Smart gal. Still has half the bill to pay so the contractor should make things right.

  3. Charlie, Here is a photo of the process. There is a template set up on the alum. table in the foreground to get exact length cuts. Cut 'em with the chop saw (which is a piece of junk by the way), drill two holes, top and bottom for the screws, and place 5 or 6 spindles at a time in the shallow tray of Ready Seal. Pull 'em out and let drain for a moment in the tray and stage by the balustrade where they will be installed. Yes, they drip but no matter, we are using Ready Seal on the job. Screw 'em in with the Dewalt and a #2 square head bit. Goes fairly fast.
  4. How to clean new deck gate

    Percarb, acid, stain.
  5. The story of Aiden Zaugg and what I did today

The old adage, "giving is better than receiving" rings true again. Good for you Thomas, very potent karma. There is justice in this world.
  6. I really like the Super Cedar on white cedar. Nice natural tone, and the grain of the wood comes through the stain very nicely. The regular Cedar semi-transparent is a bit too heavily pigmented for my own taste. May just have to try the Super Cedar on an upcoming Western Red Cedar deck.
  7. Different home and stain color. Original condition, prepped, and stained pictures. Again, the wood is white cedar. The stain is Armstrong-Clark, Super Cedar color.
  8. Beth, A wood restoration contractor out west that has requested to remain anonymous. I have talked with the owner over the last few years and I assure you, this guy is the real deal.
  9. Same home, different perspective.
  10. I was forwarded these pictures yesterday. The wood siding on the home is white cedar. Original condition, prepped, and finished pics. The stain is Armstrong-Clark, color Cedar Semi-transparent. Looks real nice.
  11. ready seal

Steve, You can try either Sun Brite, ACR Products, or Peirce Fitchette of Ready Seal. May be a few others but I do not think there are a ton of distributors that carry Ready Seal.
  12. ready seal

Steve, That is a good price. Considering the cost of a barrel of petroleum, not too bad of an increase.
  13. Charlie, Nothing smart. Buy a bunch and you will see. Come bundled in 12's, and soaking. These were staged for about 3 weeks just to let the wood dry out. I would imagine that the spindles will "drip". Not too concerned about handling them after a few minutes. Note, this is the 1st time we have tried this, kind of a test run on another similar monster job later in the season. We will be using Ready Seal stain, so do not think handling or dripping will be any problem.
  14. Not sure, I just thought it looked nice and neat. Seriously, cheap HD lumber is very wet, and this is to allow the spindles to dry out. Charlie, It is just a heavy rubber shallow tray, cut 'em, drill 'em, dip 'em, and install them. I'll take pics and post. Should go fairly easy, although tomorrow is a wash out due to heavy rain. Back for more fluke.
  15. Daniel, I am not sure. The MSDS sheet is in my truck. Just got back from the shore with a 9.8 lb. fluke (summer flounder)! Biggest one in 2 years. Anyway, it is an additive. Along with Tom's 760, will take off ~ 95% of a single acrylic in one pass. Good stuff.
  16. Beth, Hmmm. Close. Find out this coming week. Whatever, if it is good for hardwoods and can tint to another color, it will be used for certain jobs.
  17. Beth, No need at the moment. ACR had WS in stock and displayed when I was last up there. Does a certain chemist come to mind? Hah!
  18. Beth, Good one, like that. Would much prefer "truth sayer". Hah!
  19. Scott, Beg to differ but it ain't real far from the horse's mouth. At least the original colt that ran in the Derby.
  20. Beth, Still have about 7 gals. of "that other brand" to work through. Will certainly try it on hardwoods. But I'll need some help on pigments and tinting.
  21. Hey Sweetie!

Ready to ride a camel? Hah!

Gotta' run, ton of sanding to do today. See 'ya later.
