Pete, you couldn't have a better mentor than Shane. The job looks awesome and looks like it went well being your first one. Congrats. -
What is the most effective way to get jobs?
newlook replied to mdspowerwashing's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Phil ~ I certainly can respect your position. What we have experienced is not so much the price we quote to a well to do customer, it's the extra things the customer expects you to do. Recently I posted a handful of pics of a landcaping ~ concrete job that we finished. It had all the bells and whistles...2 putting greens, tennis court and etc. Well the wife of the customer was planning a big b-day part for him. 2 days before the party she calls me up and asked if she can use some of my guys. I asked her for what and she indicated that she needed them to help her set up "things" for the party. When explained that I don't lend my employees out she went ballistic on me. She tried to insinuate that since we were awarded the big contract that she felt I could afford to let her use some of my people. Just thought I would share that....:) -

Getting Your Foot In The Door W/Out Stepping On Your Competitors Foot
newlook replied to newlook's topic in Construction Cleaning
Bringing this around again.. -
Interesting topic as the price of gas continues to plague us out here in Calif. Interesting thoughts and views from some of our TGS heavy hitters. Certainly can see the passion in this dialogue and often times it is difficult to convey what you really want to say by typing it out. Politics are always a "hot" button in any arena and the TGS is no different. I tend to treat these dialogues as I would treat a problem customer ~ listen to all what is said and try to be diplomatic as much as possible with my response.
-
Mike...yea...that was a little lame...but we will let you slide on that one due to the fact you are getting back into the swing of things on the TGS :lglolly: LOL...
-
Hey Mike...good to see you back. Where in the heck have you been?

Have you ever done a house this size and/or a job this size? It is difficult to summarize a pricing scheme due to the fact that there are so many different factors that play into "what goes into the pricing" approach. My best advice would be to determine your ability to accomplish this job and put a dollar value on it.

Oil vs. Latex Stains for Cedar Shake?
newlook replied to jakewojcik's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Great thread all the way around. I don't do wood so I am going to ask a silly?... If the stain is oil base for the cedar shake(s) couldn't the oil fuel a fire if there was one? -
Quiz ~ How do you know when you are doing gutter clean-outs with a shephards hook extension wand combo from the ground that the inside of the gutters are actually clean? (No climbing ladders to see either) LOL It would be interesting to hear some answers on this.

Gutter Clean Outs ~ How do you know?
newlook replied to newlook's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Our experience in the past was to walk the perimeter of the roof line and do a visual as Phil mentioned. Safety is so important when attempting/doing this. By doing this does ensure that all debri is removed. This is not as difficult when working a single story unit. On 2nd story units we S.H. the gutter system until we are getting clean water rolling out over the gutters. This gives a very good indication that the gutters are clean and the water is finding it's way to the downspouts. John - mirror sounds like a good idea. I may explore that. -
Done yesterday before the next rain storm hit. Sherphard hooked the gutters. Been awhile since I actually ran the rig and worked around the water all day long....felt pretty good getting back outside and showing the young guys that I can still get around!! :) I was actually training/showing a new guy some techniques on power washing.
-
He was pleased with it. The inside of the gutters were totally full with "stuff" and took several sweeps with the S.H. to get the inside clean...

We had good weather for 2 days. Starting on my next set of homes to power wash and the forecast calls for rain this afternoon through next Wednesday. Not good!!!

Pro-Restore Decks
newlook replied to Mike Stahmer's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Mike, Looks great! LaJolla ~ great market down there and it is a very high end area. Whoever built that deck forgot to put the rails up. I would put planter beds and/or something around the perimeter until the rails can be put up. :) -
