  1. No option for my top choice, HVLP. We use the deckster when possible, brush and pad for windy days or easy jobs
  2. We still like to wash the fence at the very least to rinse off dirt, kill mildew, mill glaze, etc. I've never just stained a fence so someone else would have to help with pricing.
  3. Anyone know if its possible to replace just the gold plate on the bottom of an aluminum storm door? Normally I dont have any problems with them but homeowner had a brand new one installed and called to tell me it got spotted and when she wiped it off the gold came off as well. Looks similar to the picture attached...you can see the gold piece (maybe 2 inches tall) across the bottom of the door *edit: The storm door in question butts right up to a wood deck we cleaned with stripper and brightener...I'm not sure which one of them may have caused the damage to the finish. Everything was prewet and rinsed afterward but the chemical must have acted on it right away
  4. Somebody went to Columbia...

Pretty nifty...I wouldnt mind doing that with some ox...it always seems to clump up for me even in the sealed bucket
  5. I curious how Mahogany flame is the most popular color when its only been out for like a month
  6. Neat Desk / Neat Receipts

OMG is right...that looks amazing!! I'm still typing receipts in for my 2009 return...let alone getting around to categorizing them. Cool find Celeste! Thanks!

Take your expenses, add in your profit and you get your price
  8. I push most people towards Cedar Semi so definitely that.
  9. just a little guy

Post says western red cedar wood
  10. I've got an Ipe deck this week with some unique challenges. The entire deck is completely enclosed...wood is two years old, never sealed just gray and dusty from construction. The way this porch is constructed keeps out all rain whatsoever. The entrance from the outside has an actual door with frame and you step down to get into the deck. Two sides of the deck are enclosed with drywall (recently painted) Due to the way the walls are build around the porch the only place water can drain is through the floor (there are no edges for water to escape over the edge. My concern is powerwashing with the drywall there. I could try to tape and cover but I'm not sure how effective that will be. Can I use a percarb, scrub it in and rinse with only a hose? I've never washed a deck this way especially IPE and I'm accustomed to having some benefit of pressure when rinsing. Will probably apply acid with a pump up around the edges to keep any splashing onto the drywall. Appreciate any advice.

Nice job working around those green spindles...bye bye ugly acrylic!
  12. amazing that looks great! What type of wood?
  13. Refinishing Rainbow playset

hotroddr, the finer grit tends to close up the grain of the wood and makes the stain harder to penetrate. 60 grit will keep it smooth to avoid any splinters so you shouldn't need to go any higher
  14. Citric Acid

Very nice! What were you using for cleaner?
  15. Homeowner Problem

Things go wrong...cost of doing business. Pay for it and replace the damage. Too late now though...attacking the homeowner does nothing for you.
  16. Nice deck Tony, and excellent resto. Didn't see that the Mahogany was in yet how do you compare it straight up to Sierra (no mixing)? Hows business going for you in VA?
  17. Kroger Stores

Mr Clean click on Settings on the top of the page and on then on the left hand setting click "edit signature". Name, company and contact information helps other members identify you and know who they are talking with.
  18. Heeeeeeelp!!

No doubt it sucks but you said you already did the cedar siding, don't risk losing a customer by arguing over the deck. If the stain was visibly that thick then maybe washing it wasn't the best idea.
  19. Pricing a kids wooden swingset

For what its worth, playsets are a huge pain...charge accordingly. I've tried spraying but now we brush them all. All the little hardware and plastic has to be either taped off or wiped with mineral spirits afterward. If it has a roof...climbing in there (i'm 6'2") is "fun". Also they furr up pretty bad if you have to strip it...you usually have to sand. We are between 3 and 5 hundred for playsets like the ones below. Occasionally they are tossed in for free as part of a large job (deck and fence combo).
  20. Alaskan Yellow Cedar sealer/stain

The stain is most likely collecting dust because it was over applied and never soaked into the wood fully. This goes along with your cool weather comment as the stain doesn't dive as deep in cooler weather. Applying additional product over top will only make the problem worse and will take even longer to dry than the first coat of stain.
  21. Health Insurance

I'm searching as well Guy...wish there was something offered through a trade association or company that deals with self employed contractors. I forget the length of time but I think you have a few months period where you can decide to elect for COBRA or not. You don't have to pay unless you elect coverage and then you owe back retroactively...although after you elect a claim can be filed for incident during those back months. At least thats what mine is supposed to be...I lost coverage since I graduated, so have to elect COBRA or find something cheaper and do that instead.
  22. Definitely go with a deep cell...i've gone through 5 or 6 of the 30 dollar tractor batteries and they dont hold a charge after constant recharging. They leak too if you're not careful. The deep cells I have from Sunbrite get tossed around, charged hundreds of times and they've held up great
  23. Removing AC Stain From Brick Patio

EFC will strip an oil...enough to get it off the patio
  24. Removing AC Stain From Brick Patio

I'm not able to look up the brick link on my phone but you should be able to use some stripper or even the EFC as mentioned above and scrub lightly with a brush and rinse with water. Or we use Goof Off brand graffitti remober (has acetone) or some Easy Off oven cleaner as a quick cleaner when in a bind. The AC isn't hard to take off so you don't need to leave anything on for long.
