  1. Gotta search for 3 letter words through google
  2. is this a bad case of zebra stripes?

Probably someone going in a sweeping motion to push the water or dirt to one end of the job. The overlap is looks like where they looped back around *edit: then again I dont know why they would be that close together.
  3. '08 Economy Poll

Im not sure what to put on the vote. I would say its effecting my business, but its for the better, which I don't think was what that option on the poll meant. I'm almost double from last year. People are all about getting more done around the home....especially those who tried to sell and then decided to stay. They start pouring money into home maintenance....such as decks!! cha-ching
  4. Deck restoration project: some ?s...

You certainly have a good bit of sanding still to do on those steps. Floor looks good minus some small spots but anywhere else on the deck that you still see old red stain needs to be removed. Your worst spots are the facing of the step treads and the side of the railing 2x4 as well us up high where the spindles meet the rail cap
  5. ahhh smart idea on the drying Do the spindles drip stain everywhere when you pull them out? Does it not mess up the stain to be handling the stained spindles when installing them? Or do you let them dry for a bit?
  6. Can I ask why you lay the new spindles out like that? Also when you do the job could you post up a shot of your dipping contraption for the spindles? Sounds like an interesting idea
  7. 10 yr old kiln dried pressure treated pine
  8. what are those ridiculous rocks sitting on the deck?
  9. Heres some shots of another job with cedar semi-transparent: Pics are of a custom deck and 347 feet of fencing all stained with Cedar semi-trans. That fence only took 7.5 gallons!! I wont post my prices on here, but I will tell you that in the four jobs I used AC on, my stain expense has averaged out to about 12 percent of my total bill. That means Im making a lot more money. Especially on fences where product cost is huge for me
  10. Matt maybe a solution would be to explain that you will get one year out of the initial stain but that your price includes a free recoat in one year.
  11. That is one goofy looking wall I don't even guarantee that my PT decks will look "great in a years time". No way in heck you're going to get that kind of longevity on IPE
  12. Inhaled Sodium Hydroxide fumes?

There shouldn't be any SH fumes after you wash
  13. You cant get a good price on Wolmans stuff and it comes in small containers We use the TimberPro line of products at DeckGuide Pro Center © 2004 - G&K Distributors 30 lb pails last for quite a few jobs and are easy to transport and pour or scoop out of. You may also want to check out HD-80, efc38 and citralic at Wood Deck Cleaning & Sealing Products - ideal for wood siding and log homes or for sale at TheProSealerStore
  14. Final advice on stain for ipe

Brown sugar woodtux will be closest to the woodzotic mix. Just wont have as much red in it order a 5 gallon pail from Deck Stains Cleaners Sealers Staining Decks Wood Decking Sealing Concrete Paver Restoration
  15. White film after efc38/citralic

Sounds like you mixed it good enough, its probably just a matter of not enough dwell time. On hot days it can be difficult. Its tricky for you because ordering too much means it just goes to waster. On my end, I keep stuff wet with more cleaner, but having a couple hundred pounds of the stuff makes it a bit easier Next time, you shouldnt need HD80 to do the maintenance coat on the deck. Just a light cleaning...some soap and water to remove dirt, pollen, etc and you can put another light coat of stain on. Now if things get in bad shape, or the stain starts looking real rough, then yea go ahead and strip it before doing another coat of stain
  16. Inhaled Sodium Hydroxide fumes?

I had that once after a long day of heavy stripping. Didnt see the connection at first but I had a killer sore throat. Just drank tons of water and cough drops seemed to do the trick. Probably was from the fumes I wish I could say I wear the mask 24/7 but I don't really notice the stripper much?? I think maybe the mist is heavier so it doesn't interfere with my breathing too much. Oxalic cloud can be way worse so Ill pull the mask out for neutralizing

  19. Truthfully the most frustrating for me is trying to deal with certain group of people whom I have extreme trouble understanding and that insist on trying to negotiate everything. I know as soon I hear a certain accent on the phone that I'm in for trouble. But what can you do....I still go do the estimate...and they take twice or three times as long just trying to explain basic concepts. They ask the same questions over and over and never grasp the fact that you cant put stain on a 10 year old deck without cleaning and that I don't care about the color chart they have from home depot. Sorry for the rant.... I just had three of those bids in a row on Friday...took me all morning. At this point I'm actually hoping I don't get the work
  20. White film after efc38/citralic

On the first photo it could be result of needing more rinsing. Is the whitish haze fuzzy at all? Could also be loose wood fibers from cleaning. Or even still it looks similar to new wood thats started to age and isn't fully clean ...As for the second photo, Greg I hate to break it to you but that wood needs a lot more work
  21. Got my biggest job to date on craigslist. Also gets me website traffic and helps with my keywords
  22. Greg could you snap some close ups of the cedar and rustic semi trans on the different decks youve done when you get a chance? Im curious how it finishes out on older vs newer pine or other woods that you may have done
  23. twp 100 vs twp 500

500 is the low VOC form of twp. 100 is the original but from what I understand it wont be around as we know it in the next year or so. At least on decks I think most people stick with the 100 series. Not sure what would be best for siding
  24. AC vs. Woodtux

Rick I dont know anything about the solvents in ready seal but do you think there is a risk of reformulation when the 09 regulations kick in? Have you heard anything from your RS contacts
  25. Pretty sure they are all redwood. Mine were
