Normally I would tell you to order HD80 stripper and woodrich brand brightener together. You probably should have gotten your plan together before you started stripping everything. But as this point you need to get that deck neutralized. Sounds like its been a few days already and if you wait another week for shipping you might end up having to clean the deck again.

Have you gotten all the old stain off? That behr stripper isnt bad like their stains and seems to be one of the stronger homeowner available strippers. Its just priced high for what you get. Same ingredients as professional stripper though. Once you get all the old stain off with the stripper you'd be fine just neutralizing with their brightener. If youve waited several days already, especially if you had rain, the stripper is going to be pretty neutralized already. Woodtux is a great stain, we use it on lots of decks. I would go with the woodrich brand stain and seal as opposed to woodtux though. I think youll find it a bit more forgiving to apply. If youve never used it, woodtux can be a little harder to get looking right

Bryan im in that same boat with you. Honey gold has gotten less popular for me so realistically I could probably sell everyone on the AC semi-trans cedartone. To me thats pretty close to brown sugar. Im gonna test out the transparent cedar and see if thats lighter or closer to honey gold- 224 replies

man you lucky dog. Melted that acrylic right off nice work! -
I would have sanded it afterward but other than that looks like you got a good start. You may get some more loose wood fibers after cleaning that you may want to sand. If you keep the pressure low you should be alright though

AC vs. Woodtux
bigchaz replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
O sorry mike I didnt know anything about the ready seal change. But with TWP, bakers, wolmans??, and others going under for the new regulations next year, the draw to AC for me is the consistancy with the product over 8/9 years and the hope that maybe ill be able to use the same stain for more than 2 years. IF ready seal is already the product for you I certainly would say stick with that. AC has some differances to RS so it might be worth at least checking out. Stains are gonna change over time. I like reading how people used to put oil or tranny fluid on wood. Then there's been flood products and cabot, wolmans, olympic, etc etc. Experimenting is good for a company looking to stay ahead of things and make sure they are always offering the best of the best to customers. Its always good to have a backup plan if let's say ready seal or woodtux went out of business. Or if something changed to where you no longer get the same results -

AC vs. Woodtux
bigchaz replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I get horrendous coverage ratio with woodtux on dry wood. The ideal would be doing a coat of timberoil with topcoat of woodtux but I also would prefer not to have that 2 step staining process. So Id rather not put 350 dollars of expensive tux on a 1000 dollar deck job. AC has more penetrating oil in the formula and acts more like a timberoil on drier decks. However, theres also drying oils in the stain that stay closer to the surface and lock in the moisturizing oils and hold your color better. Sometimes with a timberoil you put the first coat down and wonder where the heck it went it soaked in so deep. You dont get that as much with the AC. Some applications still require two coats, but it sprays easily and in most cases one heavy coat seems like it will work. Check out my other armstrong thread for the review I wrote. The stain is a bit more opaque (in the semi solid) which also helps with a more even color. On older wood with Woodtux i get a huge color shift from application to fully cured. Sometimes it goes on dark, sometimes light, and I never know for certain how its going to dry out. Not a problem with AC. What you see is what you get when it dries -
AC vs. Woodtux
bigchaz replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
WoodTux/Rich on 95 percent of decks this year. Will be adding AC to the lineup next year and the mix will probably go to 50/50. Still love the look of woodtux on newer wood, but the AC will be my product of choice for rougher/drier decks -
Should I wet deck prior to using EFC-38?
bigchaz replied to gt2003's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
Unless its a super hot day just put the cleaner on dry wood. If the wood is soaked with water you are simply diluting your mix as soon as it hits the deck. Mixing instructions for citralic will depend on what you are neutralizing. 10 gallons means you are only mixing 3-4 ounces per gallon. I dont use citralic but for new wood 3-4 ounces of oxalic is plenty. If you are doing a heavy strip you will want a stronger mix of neutralizer (8 ounces per gallon) -
NO not what you might be thinking.... Most days I come home with a good amount of deck stain on my forearms and ankles from spraying railings and floors. I clean it every few weeks but the level of deck stain in my shower is getting progressively worse. You can feel the oil and see the orangish hue all along the sides of the shower stall I use a regular bathroom bleach cleaner and also tried kaboom with a scrub brush too but it doesn't seem to fully get it off. This may be a risky proposition but is there a way to strip the shower with something that will take those oils up? I realize most of you probably haven't cleaned a shower in years, but its a perk of being single for me... So could you be so kind as to inquire what your significant other may use to clean the shower

Random orbital sander vs 1/3 sheet vibrating sander
bigchaz replied to gt2003's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
Well the difference would be pretty much the motion. I for one hate vibrating sanders. My dewalt variable speed orbital is much smoother. It has a very effective sawdust bag. Changing sheets on the orbital takes 3 seconds verses 10 minutes with the 1/3 sheet crap -

bigchaz replied to bigchaz's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Yea window open. I was thinking Easy Off might work if i dont scrub it. It should wipe off pretty easily if i can just get it to melt off. -
Well if anyone's wondering, just look at post 17 if you want to know where things went awry

awesome! By the way I went back today since homeowner was worried about a huge thunderstorm we had about 3 hours after staining and the wood looked perfect. The color was exactly the same as when it was applied. Rain made no differance and it reinforces my positive reaction to the next to no color shift with the stain- 224 replies

Sorry if that comes across harsh and I honestly do wish you the best Dan. You've certainly tried just as hard as anyone else on here. But just for once I would love to see you post something about a job you did where you felt excited about the results, you enjoyed the customer, you made good money, and you had a great day. I really would love to see that but unfortunately I don't imagine that ever happening because in your mind PWing is a cheap and expendable service and every person you meet is a "cheapie" out to screw you. Take a week off man. For you. For all of us.
